I've been studying balintawak for almost a year now, and it is not about learning "the moves" but rather learning how to counter after every opponent strike. Of course, there is a default flow pattern of angle strikes and counters of 1, 12, 3, and 6; where your uke strikes at angle 1 and you counter, then they strike at angle 12 and you counter, they strike at angle 3 and you counter, they strike at angle 6, and you counter. After that the uke (feeder) then does fist strikes, or grabs your stick to test whether you know the concepts of lifting, clearing, putt-putt strikes, etc. You have to understand the basics to understand what Jhun is doing with his student. I went to their World Camp in 2022, and I had similar questions, and once I understand what they were doing, it was easy to do the exercise that they're doing.
@Coventry Punx Also, just another note, I am training under the WOTBAG Balintawak, where as Jhun is training under Toboada Balintawak. I just started training Toboada Balintawak, so GM Toboada and the WOTBAG Balintawak are about 80% similar. Toboada emphasizes hitting with the fist and stick in hand, whereas WOTBAG emphasizes hitting with the stick in general. They both share the most important elements, defense, blocking the strike and immediately countering.
