Thanks for watching! I try to take my time when training to make sure the person that I’m training gets a full understanding of what I’m doing. When I trained the person was going fast and it was annoying. I don’t want the people I train to get overwhelmed and feel like they have to rush. They will eventually get faster as they get more comfortable. Stay safe out there and God bless!

It’s never been a problem for me. You’re really supposed to thread it all the way and make it tight but I’m not using it to do a recovery, just a simple winching and redirecting the cable

I HATE these new cars with Ebrakes that use a button. A dead battery or even a jump pack won't release it sometimes cause it's gotta meet certain things to set and unset. I always tell those to use the parking brake when winching up. It's saved me a few times when others overlap cable, etc. Nothing worse than seeing a vehicle go back down the bed and nothing you can do. I believe in having a safety chain. Had the clutches in old winch screw up and there went the car. Nothing I could do. Now I chain it so that if it goes back, it won't go far. Safety is key in towing. Being fast is great, but if customers' cars get messed up, being fast means nothing.
@TowMan127
@TowMan127 Месяц назад
Yeah it’s scary when you watch a vehicle go rolling back off the bed cause something failed. Trust me, I know the feeling very well cause it happened to me once. Thankfully no one was behind it and the vehicle had an issue with the front wheel and control arm so it didn’t go far. A safety chain is great but you have to keep adjusting it as it goes up the bed. They actually have a cool setup which is a wheel chock on one end and a roller on the other. You put it around the wheel and as the vehicle rolls up the bed the chock goes with it and if anything fails, the wheel chock is literally behind the tire 🛞 and helps stop the vehicle from rolling.
@kitjasabsgabs1830
@kitjasabsgabs1830 Месяц назад
@TowMan127 That's an idea. I was thinking have a pocket n the bed so chain would just follow up with auto. Like in front of winch. That way if it did roll back, cable snap, etc, it'd only go so far. I like your idea better. Why I do the e Brake trick. On a click or 2. Good stuff man. Gonna sub. You know urr stuff. I do same. Be safe out there. Ppl pay NO ATTENTION to us at all.
@TowMan127
@TowMan127 Месяц назад
@@kitjasabsgabs1830 I always liked the parking brake idea but with these new cars it’s either brake on or off 😂. I don’t know why engineers hate us. I’ve done it that way with the chain for safety. Just move it up to the next bed slot as you go up. Works great. I’m trying to find the image I had of the rolling wheel chock so I could show you.

Yes good job teaching them how to snatch block out of the space you started off right if you going to show him how to do it you don't do it in neutral the vehicle should be in parked and if you going to snatch block it out in neutral he need to put wood in front of the wheel just in case the vehicle take off rolling
@TowMan127

I always use the parking brake if it works and if it doesn’t then I’ll use wood.

Any tips for someone aspiring to become a tow truck operator. Are there any schools or training that I can attend? I am from Texas. Any leads will be greatly appreciated thank you.
@TowMan127
@TowMan127 7 месяцев назад
Morning! Unfortunately there’s no regular towing school. They do have programs like wreckmaster but they don’t teach you basic stuff. My recommendation would be to go to a local company and see if they’re hiring and willing to train. Maybe you can ride with someone for a day and see if towing is for you cause it’s not for everyone. When I first started towing I went to a company and trained for 2 weeks unpaid but I got the free training. Hopefully you could find a good trainer that will take their time training you so that you could learn the right way and safe way. I have a video you can watch that gives a basic of how I do a job. I’m sure there’s companies that are willing to train. There a company called Campbells towing that might train you but I don’t know where in Texas you are. You can always google local tow companies around you and reach out to them. Here’s the video I was telling you about. Thanks for the tips and the videos, they have been very helpful. I called all of the towing companies over here in El Paso (32) and one of them called me back telling me they were looking for a driver and were willing to take me with no experience (all of the other companies that told me they were hiring were looking for drivers with experience). I am going for an interview next week.
@TowMan127
@TowMan127 7 месяцев назад
@@JoseReyes-jq9kw you’re welcome! Unfortunately, a lot of companies are like that because they don’t want someone that doesn’t have experience because it’s too much of a liability risk. Good luck on your interview. I hope it works out for you. There are companies out there that are willing to train you just gotta find them. You can always start out as a service tech doing jumpstart and lockouts, etc. and work your way into a truck. You can watch my videos and learn, and then you’ll have some experience. 😂

Did I hear you correctly to use the parking brake when winching a vehicle?
@TowMan127
@TowMan127 7 месяцев назад
Yes you heard correctly. Unless the parking brakes are electronic, you can use them to help keep the vehicle from rolling on its own. You don’t put the brake on all the way, just enough that the vehicle won’t roll on its own but will roll when you pull it with the winch.
@505fastlife6

@@505fastlife6you’re welcome. It depends on where you live. A buddy of mine has his business registered to his home address so he brings back wrecks there but me personally I’d rent a small yard with a secured fence to keep wrecks and impounds.
