John and Paul, WPS' new Director of Training, discuss their favorite range drills to save ammunition during this shortage. As always, dry fire is top of the list, but moving into drawing from concealment, tactical and emergency reloads, as well as driving up the stress are featured in these simple drills that will save you bullets and maximize your time on the range.

I spend about 3/4 of my range time dry firing, regardless of how much ammo I have. I dryfire my entire routine 3 or 4 times, before I touch a live round. Ive used the same 10 rd weekly maintenance set, for years and Im confident in my ability to get a first round hit. Dry fire is training, live fire is validation.

You can do that with 357 revolvers to.using 38spl and 357.load random load both rds per cylinder. it's a good practice drill that helps you develop a set grip,aim and trigger pull .if you know your just shooting 38spl how hard you grip in anticipation of recoil.will be different from shooting 357.if you are unsure what rd will fire.you Start shooting as if every rd is 357. That builds great consistency with every shot fired.and how you manage recoil.

@@mrpopularfromdowntow Inert round, with no primer/powder. Trigger press drops hammer/striker, but slide won't cycle, round doesn't eject. Forces manual clear, sight realignment, etc... I just tried out simulation-based training for situational awareness and operation. I didn't think simulation would be as fun and engaging as it is. Getting to play through real-life scenarios where you have to assess the threat, legal ramifications, consider how many shots to fire, make split-second decisions, moving targets, etc. Highly recommend and no expensive ammo! Tons of drills and practice without the weekly $ dump. And thanks to WPS, the instructors were impressed with this newbie's grip and presentation. Gracias.

@DaveSmith-cp5kj 3 года назад
@@OxiSG FTF ejection port closed, tap rack bang Squishy trigger ejection port open and you see brass sticking out, sweep it out, and rack and fire Squishy trigger ejection port open and you see brass in your chamber, eject magazine, rack until chamber is clear, reinsert mag and chamber If you can see the chamber you can skip the previous options but if you are blind (such as in darkness, especially when using night vision) then you have to run through them all until you get a bang or tactically feel. If you get a fail to fire and you rack and an empty case ejects (typically with powder flying everywhere as well) you know you have a squib. In a fight you are unlikely to notice this unless you are a vey calm person, so the gun will just blow up in your hand. No way to get around this. Your gun blows up, pull out your second gun. Your second gun should be a very small pocket pistol accessible by your non-firing hand. Most people don't carry a second handgun, but most experienced cops do, because the chance of a gun shitting the bed is more likely than you think. Alternatively, you may be in a situation where your perfered gun hand is inaccessible due to injury or occupation (such as holding something,. maybe even your attacker). You always need some kind of secondary weapon, and a knife is a poor substitute to revert to, a knife is really only for pushing someone off of you.
@TheDollarSportsman
@TheDollarSportsman 3 года назад
Big strategy John has taught previously for saving ammo: buy a replica airsoft pistol that matches what you carry, and train with that. Airsoft replicas are relatively inexpensive and allow you to practice all these things on the cheap (and even at home if local laws permit). Once you’ve really mastered the tactics, then hit the range with your 50 rounds and apply what you’ve learned with the real deal. 👊💪

@@WarriorPoetSociety I posted this and I hope that you can address it for me " I question this drill for a few reasons, so please help me out here. He has a threat, he steps back 5 or 6 feet and takes the target down with a single head shot. But, there are a few things to consider even if the threat has a knife, bat or some sort of other weapon. A split second decisions can change the course of your life: 1) The legality of killing someone in self defense and the legal challenges 2) I am a martial artists and if I can get 5-6 feet away from the threat; a) I'll go hand-to-hand b) if I have to shoot, I'm going for the leg and/or being verbally aggressive with my draw trying to deescalate the threat . The point that I am making is that I am a recent member of USCCA and I've had many discussions with them about should I help those in need, why is the US GOV, LAW enforcement and the courts are against gun owners in a self defense situation and last-- my life is more valuable than yours. Selfish? Yes. So , when John says we are the protectors, I beg to differ and let's remember he started off this video by saying martial arts training. Your thoughts? I sent you an email, too. "

SMH at the 34 individuals that claim to have got nothing whatsoever out of this video, to the point where they went through the trouble of clicking thumbs down. If one genuinely took away nothing positive from this demonstration, got nothing out of it at all, I would question what they came here for and why they felt the need to negatively respond to this great video. It's like the guy that gives a bad review on the function of a product ordered online....because the mailman delivered it late....foolishly evaluating the product's capabilities based on its arrival time in the mail. So, to the 34, ajd any to follow in their footsteps, whatever brought you here, however you landed on this video, if your inclination to leave a thumb down is based on anything other than the construction instructive content of this video's excellent practical advice, you should consider rotating your wrist to orient your non-opposable thumb northward. Heck, four or five impressively consistent head shots, at rushed pace, drawing from concealed with numb fingers, alone merits a thumbs up, regardless of any valid criticisms you might have, in which case try giving props with a thumbs up and then post some constructive content in a comment below to help the poster and the community. Bottom line, when you land here, or anyplace, be fair, honest, and kind, or just be gone, leaving no negative traces of your presence. Thanks.

I use the 1/4 size USPSA targets staged all over the house and do my dry fire drills. Including draw, get on target, and shoot. Target transitions, move, Reload, and shoot. Lots of dry fire as Ammo prices are Insane and difficult to re-supply. After your video, I think I go to the range and mix up a little of both your drills. Thank you guys.
