VIDEO: A few hours from late morning to mid-afternoon of trains on the first day of operation at East Linton station, on the East Coast Main Line, featuring LNER class 800s and 801s, Cross Country class 220s and 221s, Transpennine Express class 802s, ScotRail class 380s and 385s and a DB Cargo UK class 66.
The original East Linton station opened on 22 July 1846 on the North British Railway line between Edinburgh (North Bridge) and Berwick-upon-Tweed which was later amalgamated with several other railways to become the East Coast Main Line. It was originally named 'Linton' but was re-named to 'East Linton' in 1864, when another station called 'West Linton' opened on the Leadburn, Linton and Dolphinton Railway (though, by coincedence, this was renamed itself the same year due to another station called 'West Linton' on the Waverley route).
East Linton closed on 4 May 1964 as it was one of the many victims of the Beeching Axe. Following decades of local campaigning leading to gradual improvements in services within the area, a new station at East Linton was greenlit and construction began in February 2022. The new station sits slightly further west from the original, with the only remnants of the former station being a residential property
The station is served by a mix of ScotRail services between Edinburgh and Dunbar and Transpennine Express services between Edinburgh and Newcastle.
