Filmed on 11/07/2023. For our first visit in 2 years, we return to one of few busiest cities outside London. With one station which has the second name after a particular London Underground station and tube line. Yes, this is the first of All The Manchester Stations starting with Manchester Piccadilly (Season 10 Episode 16)
In comparison to last time, Manchester Piccadilly is now becoming CAF Central with Northern class 195 & 331's, Transport For Wales introduction of the new built class 197 and Transpennine Express CAF Class 397. During the time of filming, Transpennine Express did withdraw their Nova 3 sets due to cracks found on 2 sets on the chassis. So, class 185's has been drafted in to take over from the Nova 3's on a temporary basis.
Transport For Wales has introduced their MK4 sets with 4 carriages, a DVT and First Class carriage. But, they are trailing by introducing 5 carriage sets for the future to boost compacity. However, some technical issues means that class 150 and 158's has been in to take over from them on the Manchester Piccadilly to South Wales diagrams.
Northern has boosted their Blackpool North to Manchester Airport services by making trains every 30 minutes rather than one train per hour. All these are class 331 operated and fast workings via Bolton. In the future, more of the class 323's will be coming to Northern from West Midlands Railway once their new class 730's do enter service.
