From a railfan perspective; it can be irking seeing nothing but GE’s. Especially in the last six or so years as NS and CSX have purged their rosters of EMD’s. That being said: from an engineer’s perspective I love running GE’s, any variety of the Heavies to be exact. Despite many comments picking on them for reliability, out of the 100’s I’ve ran, only two had issues and nothing that couldn’t get me over the road. On the flip side I have EMD’s go down on me all the time. Doesn’t matter if it’s a 40-2 or a 70M-2/ACe.
Let's be honest it's not the Gevo itself that is mundane and unappreciated, it's the giganic bloated rail megacorps that own them. I actually really like late era GE's, I just wish there were more railroads around still, so we could get that diversity of details and paint schemes that is so sorely missing from the mainlines of America today. Same with the ACEs, it's not the locomotive itself people dislike but the era of change and the changes themselves that they represent.
