The principle of therapeutic magnetic stimulation is based on the use of short-duration magnetic pulses. The induced high-intensity electromagnetic field easily penetrates through clothes, cranium bones, and soft tissues. It impacts on the deep nerves, peripheral nerves, brain, and spinal cord inaccessible for other kinds of stimulation.
If compared to electrical stimulation, magnetic stimulation does not cause painful sensations that usually occur due to activation of skin receptors under the electrode and does not require additional preparation time. Today, TMS is successfully used in:
- psychiatry: depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, addiction;
- neurology: motor stroke rehabilitation, spasticity, pain, migraine, Parkinson’s disease, tinnitus, dystonia, essential tremor, Tourette’s syndrome, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease;
- pediatry: autism spectrum disorders, functional neurological disorders, Tourette’s syndrome, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, mental retardation (including speech delay).

The only side effect I had was being tired the first couple days of treatment. So I took a nap. Seriously, this was a magic wand for me. Nothing worked and I was depressed for years. I will sing praise for TMS til my dying day

Late to the party here! I just finished my first week out of six and I'm already noticing significant changes in my mood! After my 4th session i went outside and the sky was clear. I kid you not, the sky to me legitimately looked bluer!! I'm really looking forward to how I feel at the end of this treatment! I can actually get out of bed and do things that I've had no energy or motivation to do. After 15+ years of struggling to do basic things, doing this has given me a lot more enthusiasm about life! Can anyone with Schizophrenia that's undergone TMS offer advice? My friend has Schizophrenia and literally just had her first treatment. She has terrible nausea. Previously the only thing that ever helped her is when I spoke softly into a good microphone to her over a voice chat while she wore headphones. Temporarily, her visual and auditory hallucinations would get very distant or some would even disappear long enough for her to sleep a few hours. I tried getting her to listen to actual ASMR and she couldn't stand it. My friend is a sweetheart and doesn't deserve the hard life she continues to endure. It was my idea to speak to a Dr. about TMS and receive the treatment and I feel terrible that it's making her so sick. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

@markae0 2 года назад
@@metsrus So you are telling me you can not criticize the current situation without having a solution? Regarding research into mental illness , trillions have been spent. Do not confuse neurology with psychiatry, as you allude to the "human brain" in your last sentence. Medicine is for disease, there is no disease in mental illness. The mind can not be diseased. T. Szasz wrote "In physics the same laws are used to explain why airplanes fly and why they crash. In medicine the same principles are used to explain why people live and why they die. In psychiatry, however, one set of rules is used to explain sane behavior and another set of rules is used to explain insane behavior: sane behavior is attributed to reasons (choices), insane behavior to causes (diseases).

@markae0
@markae0 2 года назад
@@jackbartzen9133 ECT is studied by those that are selling and promoting it. Do you not see a conflict of interest? Anyone with a small knowledge of electricity knows the brain works with very tiny voltages and ECT is designed to over-voltage a humans brain and cause a seizure. Ask an neurologist if a seizure is good or bad for the brain. ECT is invisible brain damage. John Read reports there have NEVER been a double blind study of ECT, the normal medical standard test."A response to yet another defence of ECT in the absence of robust efficacy and safety evidence"

There’s not enough studies to prove & deem it damaging. It did help for a while but it also heightened & intensified the symptoms I already had. Additionally, it’s disrupted the rhythm of my cycle, ringing of the ear, eye sight issues, and behavioral manifestation that are denied at consulting.
