Excellent video, I followed your instructions exactly and mounted a small piece of fiberglass cutting board to my aluminum boat. I also used the JB Marine weld but opted out of putting screws through my transom and it still seems solid. Great Video.

Great video. I really like how you used a backer. I'm planning to do the same now that I saw this video. I have some 1" thick high density polypropylene for mine. I'm really concerned about adhesion. I made (4) keyholes with a keyhole router bit on the backside. This will give the epoxy something to grab. I don't think that I would have needed it if I had seen your method first. Good job.

Alton Johnson Thank you. Your method sounds great. So you aren’t going to to screw into your boat but just use adhesive?

Dang! I didn’t realize this was BCBACKWATER. I like your setup. So I’m copying a lot of what you’ve done. This video is intriguing. I ordered the bass pro shop transducer mount a month ago. Just got my Hummingbird Helix5. Doesn’t fit the mount. So I’m looking to glue it and search RU-vid. Viola, here you are without the bass pro mount and glueing it. Getting prepped to go to Merritt BC this June

Nice! Excellent area for fishing so many great lakes. I’ll be up there in early August!

Man I'm so nervous to drill into the boat, but sure looks like enough adhesive will do the job! Doing it the other way without screws and just using the adhesive. ITs difficult to keep it in one place, basically need to tape it on and let it sit 24 hours, it def work for me the last 3 years. But with the rebuild I'll be doing it this way. Good work.

I also have a Jon boat I use for hunting was debating just trying the adhesive option as my brother did this on his boat and seemed to work great! But if you want to make sure it’s really going to stay for a long time I’d say drill through the boat. I also had a hard time with this decision so I understand.

I took my boat to a local welder and got a piece of c channel welded on, no way I’m drilling through my transom

Drilling is fine. Just seal it. An aluminum boat has 500+ rivets through drilled holes....

I wanted it to stay and not have issues however my brother tried just using glue I cant remember what kind but its been solid on his boat the last two years.
@juanpizarro6642

Remember is aluminum boat and the best way is don’t make more holes in the aluminum to prevent future leaks that is the idea of using glue so far mine has more than 2 years with glue and not a single problem and solid

I need to do this next spring. IF I knew what I am doing, I wouldn’t be watching. Would it be better if the screw holes were an inch higher? They would be above the waterline.

The ones he is using are at Home Depot I used the same ones. Go to the back of the store near wiring & zip ties & they will be there.

With the transducer located there how is it reading? Just order the helix 5 si di gps wanted to make sure that I was going to get a good reading being that close to the motor.. thanks
@BCBackwaters

It reads behind the boat but not at full speed behind the motor. Make sure to go to google and look up transducer height and location there are some really great diagrams!

9:48. Does the angle of the transducer matter? I notice alot of them a angled slightly down, im wonder if they have to be at a specific angle
@BCBackwaters
@BCBackwaters 3 года назад
Yes the angle does matter depending on which end is down. Take a look at this thread it has some great diagram explaining the angles: www.arimaowners.com/index.php?topic=8876.0

You did not show when or how you inserted the small piece of rubber between the mount and the transducer. What is this piece for and when do you mount it?
@BCBackwaters
@BCBackwaters Год назад
That’s because I forgot to do it. It helps keeps the transducer in the right position. You should put in the rubber piece when bolting in the transducer.

How is the adhesive holding up on the cable ties you have used and where did you purchase them? Thanks
@BCBackwaters
@BCBackwaters 3 года назад
It’s double sided tape you can usually get it in any hardware store electrical section but if you ask someone they don’t usually have a clue so if you look at the description in my video I put a link to where you can buy it.

Why is the wire going over the transom and not touching? Any on the water videos?
@BCBackwaters
@BCBackwaters 5 лет назад
Paul Lopez I did this because I didn’t want the wire to rub on the transom and possibly rip the wire open.
@munro290
@munro290 3 года назад
is there a reason you don't want the wire from transducer to touch the top of transom or metal?
@BCBackwaters
@BCBackwaters 3 года назад
I was worried that with the wire moving it would eventually get cut open on the edge of the boat. In the video was the best solution I could come up with.

@@BCBackwaters ok thanks makes sense now just wasn't sure if there would be interference or something, im new to this and just adding a transducer on my little 12' princecraft. I'm just not sure if I should have it just below the bottom of boat or level with bottom... I don't want it to be kicking up water at speed ya know what I mean?
@BCBackwaters
@BCBackwaters 3 года назад
@@munro290 lots of diagrams online for locations I think it’s best if you follow one. As for the transducer wire I have heard not to wind it up too tight if you have excess as it could effect the single but just what over heard not sure it it’s true

let me ask you a question. If the transducer is mounted in the back and you are fishing in the front in the boat, then what ever you see on the fish finder display it's already history for you, it's not something comes at you, it's something already passed you, that's correct?
@BCBackwaters
@BCBackwaters 4 года назад
Luxar Images That is correct it’s marks everything behind us but lots of the time when we use down riggers when fishing our line is atleast 100 ft behind us so it does pick up the fish before our lures get to the fish. I use my GPS also for marking where I see fish so I can go back to that spot.
@zsozsousa1
@zsozsousa1 4 года назад
@@BCBackwaters Thank you for reply. I am fishing in very shallow ,2-30 feet of water with a jon boat, and I try to find the best spot for the transducer. I always standing in the front of the boat where is the trolling motor is when I fish and casting either front of me or on the side, never towards back side.I thought if I mount the transducer in the back it would not be so beneficial, since what i would see on the display it would be already gone from my position but I also don't want to mount ion the trolling motor either, Any good tip you may have I would appreciate it. Thanks
@BCBackwaters
@BCBackwaters 4 года назад
Luxar Images unfortunately I don’t have any experience with mounting a transducer somewhere else on a boat. I think it would work but most need to be pointed towards the back do to flow of water under your hull. Maybe read into bass boats I think that would be your best bet!

I have a Lund 12 WC. The back seats are similar to the 14 WC. They’re sealed with no access underneath the seats. This causes a problem for the mounting of the transducer for my humminbird fishfinder. The instructions say to mount the transducer minimum 15” from the propeller. This puts the mounting location on the opposite side of the seat. So I can’t access the backside of where I’m mounting the transducer. How do I rectify this problem?
@BCBackwaters
@BCBackwaters 4 года назад
alan white Hey Alan this does bring up a good point. My brother actually used a high grade marine glue and just glued it to his 16ft boat with a 30hp and has had no issues with the transducer plate coming off even at high speeds. I’d highly suggest for your tricky install to just use a high grade glue.
@johannwilder1437

alan white, try Stern Saver mounts which glue on with epoxy.

3m 5200 adhesive is the way to go. I did not drill into my crestliner with a 125hp. My boat is more of a tank and I have not had any issue.

Stainless Steel Screws through an Aluminum hull................... are you not concerned about a galvanic reaction which would react and cause corrosion of your Aluminum?
@reggieroo02

What should you use?
@murrayg8786
@murrayg8786 3 года назад
Stainless is what boat manufacturers use, pretty sure they know what they are doing.
@bobbreckenkamp4641
@bobbreckenkamp4641 3 года назад
Stainless and aluminum should be fine, especially if they are not submerged. I restored an aluminum 1966 26' Marinette cruiser back in 2006 and replaced every single screw in that boat (above water) with SS fasteners. The ones I removed were still in great shape but wanted to be complete. If there were dissimilar metals under the hull, then they were isolated.
