Highlighting a fix found by user CS for some people that had an issue: "Turns out the name the username box autofilled was incorrect. In windows, hit the windows key + R to bring up run, then type cmd to run the terminal. then it should show you C:\Users\ + whatever your ACTUAL username is and not your pc name or other junk. If you want to be super sure, type echo %username% into cmd then hit enter. it'll show your username again on the next line."
Ha ha. That’s a great idea; I often forget how to do PC related things so maybe I should make videos about some of them to pass on the tips like you have. Thanks again because doing this saved me ages compared to WiFi when transferring gameplay footage from my PC to my Mac for editing.
I agree with you, entirely. Everything else I found so far included going through a router (which for me meant trying to find TWO ethernet cables in my box of useless stuff.). The direct connection with no other outside hardware or transfer software was EXACTLY what I wanted. Will also save in my "watch later" folder for future reference.😁
If "there was a problem connecting to server", try restarting your PC. This usually fixes it for me, I'm not sure why the issue occurs tho. ALSO instead of typing smb://123.456.789, type smb://EthansPC/Mac Shared (of course with your details instead in the format smb://PCName/SharedFolderName).
After 4 years and you're still helping people out. Thank you so much for this video. You don't know how much time you've saved me. Hope something good happens to you today!
Hi, my mobo has 2 ethernet ports, ethernet 1 and ethernet 2. I did exactly as your steps shown in video but I cannot ping to the pc/mac nor I can smb to the pc. But I can successfully share my ethernet 1 (the one connecting to router)'s internet connection to ethernet 2 (the one connecting my pc to mac). Which means my mac can access internet via ethernet 2 by sharing pc's ethernet 1's internet connection to it, but I cannot file transfer via ethernet 2 between the 2 device.
I've tried this (1:04) for hours now. No succes tho. I'm rocking a Late 2009 IMac, could this be the reason of mischief? My Laptop is 2019, already tried the name correction issue, and evetually even tried my microsoft acc pass for it without any change.
I just spent a hour trying to figure this out. Hopefully it helps another passer by. Turns out the name the username box autofilled was incorrect. In windows, hit the windows key + R to bring up run, then type cmd to run the terminal. then it should show you C:\Users\ + whatever your ACTUAL username is and not your pc name or other junk. If you want to be super sure, type echo %username% into cmd then hit enter. it'll show your username again on the next line. Holy sht i'm so glad that finally worked...
why is ut saying on cmd ('ECHOuser' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operatorable program or bath file.). I don't know my username still@@cs3819
Hey there great tutorial. Thanks heaps for some reason I can’t put anything from the Mac to the PC it’s like it doesn’t have permissions or something like that
Hello Ethan, I would like to ask something: using the connections and configuration you showed, is it possible to scan Mac with the Windows antivirus? I'm asking this, because my Mac is old and I can't find any antivirus for it anymore. So, I would like to scan its files with Windows antivirus. Thanks a lot in advance and best regards.
Thank you for this video! I can add files to the shared folder on the PC, but on the mac tells me "Insufficient permission" when i try to copy or save files to that folder. Any ideas why? Thanks
I don't get the Desktop shortcut for the network created. If I close the folder on Mac it is then lost. Any way I can make a permanent shortcut on my mac's desktop? Main issue here is that I have an ethernet switcher on my pc
At the 0:44 mark when I click on my name, it says "This Folder Can't be shared". what's the workaround? My "Mac Shared folder" that I'm trying to share is on my desktop.. Any thoughts?
Hey, possibly because the desktop is sometimes already a shared folder. Apple makes the desktop automatically cloud saved. So maybe try doing it in not the desktop.
When it asks for the password what password is it asking for? I’ve been trying to share files for so long but whenever it gets to the password part any password I put (that’s mine ofc) is “incorrect”
Like it’s starting to frustrate me because I’ve changed my Microsoft password and put that, I’ve put the password to unlock my pc, I’ve put the password to my MAC? I just don’t know what to put 🥲🥲
Its the same password you use to log into the computer (password, and not the 4 digit pin). Sign out on your computer, then try login with the password, if that works, then it should be same. Make sure the username is correct as well by typing "echo %username%" into the command prompt
It still works for me on Windows 10 1903. Maybe try this: "Turns out the name the username box autofilled was incorrect.
Is that a crossover wired ethernet cable or a normal one to connect the Mac to the Windows? Have been looking for ways to transfer my movies from my Mac to my windows. If this works that would be so great.
@@Spicersful I think I figured it out. I reset my PC password, turned it off, turned it back on but made sure I used the password to log-in and not my pin. Re did all the steps and it finally worked.
Hey dude can you help me with this a little further? I've been trying to connect my mac to my xp computer for a couple days now and at first I used to get the promtpt t o login to my pc from the mac but now I don't . Any help?
as much as I dont know the actual answer, this has happened to me, just keep retrying. Maybe restart your mac or something, that sometimes fixes it for me
@@ethanb6958 My friend helped me with my issue. I think I had to rest my ethernet setting and put it back to the standard DCMP or whatever it's called on automatic then do the same for the pc and then do the smb:/// thingy thank you for responding though. weird thing did happen though, my pc now requiresme to use a pasweord to log in and the password is the same as the username... it didn't have that before and I'lm lucky i tired the use the username to log in casue it would been locked out
