We need more of your bible and book reviews in 2024 Pastor!

Thanks for the channel! It is helpful. I have several wide margin bibles of my own, and seeing you handle them and with some awareness of how & why you take notes is helpful to me. I also particularly like your emphasis on bibles for preaching. Blessings! Steve Bradley.

Hey Matt, could you do a video on keeping your library/study organized and maintaining a minimal amount of clutter in your workspace? You seem like a pretty tidy guy when it comes to that stuff.. I feel like my working/reading environment is always a bit of a mess as I am always acquiring new books and materials that stack up around me. Thanks!

Why transfer notes. Now you start over and make more notes

Yes but some people would like to transfer at least some of the key notes.

Great Idea Matt, I will share this with one of my preaching friends who often use his Bible this way. Thanks ~ Philip

Great idea! I wonder how far you've gotten up to now from the time of this video. I also would love to so something like this. After watching your video on the Miscellanies, I now keep a Miscellanies journal and I really enjoy it. It gives me plenty of room to write with more details. I have several bibles that I read from and study from, and am able to keep one journal with the Miscellanies notes, which sort of links all my bibles. However, it'd be very nice to compile my thoughts and meditations and notes on the different books/chapters/verses in one bible for the benefit of my son and his future children. By the way, though your videos may be targeted to reach men in ministry or in general, as a woman, I just love your content and find it very practical. Thank you so much :)

I have a KJV printed on 8.5x11" paper loose leaf. Wide margin. Came in a 3 three ring binder. I have insert one sheet lined pa per between printed pages. Transferring notes for a while. Best way to review and study scripture ever. Hang in there. I am 74 ... I figure at least 2+ years more work. Yay!

Yes brother, I know all about the daunting task of transferring notes. I just bought R.C. Sproul’s Reformation Study Bible and what I am doing first is going through my notes and comparing them to the study notes provided and see if they are communicating the same thing. If they do, I highlight the study notes as being in agreement. If there is more that I want to say, I write that into the margins.

I solved this by using the micellaneous system of Edwards. Since then I just have to note the reference «M1, M2, M3...» in whatever Bible I want to read.

I’m concurrently reading through a chronological one year reading plan while also doing a slower deep study. I like doing both because I’m getting the big picture while also making connections in my deeper studies since I’ve read ahead.

If I could get that interleaved bible in NASB, I'd probably switch do the copying. I'm just a layman, so not as many notes to transfer but I'm not good at writing small so space is at a premium in some areas. I've also contemplated sending my Cambridge bible to Norris Bookbinding who will interleave blank pages in when they rebind it, tad expensive though. My perfect bible would be an interleaved, wide margin, large font (eyes are going) bible. Probably need to be in 2 volumes for how thick it'd be.

I had done that for 2 other Bibles but have decided not to anymore when I get a new Bible. Since every time I study a chapter or verse the Lord tells me what I need to hear in that season.

I want to do something similar soon here too! Granted, not because I don’t want to make new notes, but I want to re-examine my thoughts and refine my biblical theology. Also, I’ve employed a lot of study systems over different bibles so I do kinda have a better idea for myself right now as what works best for me. Thanks for your thoughts!

This sort of thing is my nightmare. Luckily, I have a good idea of what is in each Bible. That has made things a little easier.

Some folks also transfer their hand written Bible notes to digital format, for example, in a Bible software program such as Logos. I think that allows you to cross link your notes to the scriptures.

No wonder why, Scofield pretty much said that study of the Bible can make one weary. Brother Matthew I'm working on this very thing right now I have had my old Bible (a common man's reference Bible 4th edition) for 3 years now and have a even older Old Scofield 1917 large print Bible, that I need to transfer to a new Bible because my old Bibles both are falling apart. And also with both of them I have simply just plain and simple just ran out of room to put anymore notes in either one of them. Thankfully God has blessed me with another old Scofield 1917 and this is definitely gonna be a labour of love for sure. Also on top of that I have 3 sets of different notes from 3 different passages of scripture (different subject matters) that I have yet to even added to my Bible. The work of a pastor/preacher/teacher/evangelist or minister is never done. That's why I feel that the call to the ministry is a life long call. I just hope God will keep me humble and walking in the spirit to where I can preach and teach sound doctrine and glorify God.

I've tried that several times before and it became to tedious or monotonous. What I decided to do was make new notes and compare how I've grown, learned or maybe changed on my understanding of particular verses. I find this, of course, much easier but also a fun way to reflect on how God has grown me up in His Word. All that said, not being a Pastor it might not work for those who are.

This is really confirming and hardening my absence of desire to write in my bible. One of these days I'll record a proper response to your Jonathan Edwards Miscellanies video where I shall demonstrate a system like that but for the 21st century; and refute the concept of writing in a bible. All in good fun, of course! Thanks for another great video.

cindybin2001 Well, I’m glad my little comment turned you right around! In all seriousness, if you’re intent on posting comments on a reformed christians’ videos and act like you follow the same God as us, I think it is wise to see what reformed believers (and just about every evangelistic Christian) opines about Mormonism and Biblical Christianity. I’d direct you to Dr. James White or Jeff Durbin with Apologia Church. Very loving brothers that have a heart to teaching and leading Mormons out of that cult.

I use a journaling bible & glue in a sheet of Tomoe River paper when y notes become too numerous. I would love to get the interleaved but wish it was designed with one column in the middle of the page, one column on each page, this would allow the notes to be much better connected to the specific passages than being on the complete opposite side of the book.

Just re-watched your video. I like the idea, but for me it's much more difficult to execute properly. Now that you have done this for several months, what do you think? I'm not a fan of making the print small in order to enlarge the notes, if only because it makes it harder to connect the notes to the Bible text. I'm very interested in what you have to say about this.

Oh man! I tell you what brother, I'm in the middle of doing this very same thing right now as we speak lol 😂 this is going to take a while I know it will, and on top of it all im not just transferring from one bible but BOTH of my old bibles so this is gonna take a while haha but it will all work out :)

To each his own. I don't think I would ever do that. I have notes in various Bibles, notebooks, and digital files.

Seeing this 2 years later. Wondering if you are finished this yet? I have started a B5 notebook that I am calling Verse Notes. I'm instead copying my bible margin notes in this. I'm then writing a reference in the margin of my wide margin bible that I'm switching to. The reference looks like this V1.2 V indicates Verse Notes so I know what notebook it is in. The first number "1" indicates the page that the note is on, the second number "2" is the entry on the page. I also have a notebook that I call miscellanies (after JE's system). For slightly more detailed and broad notes and ideas on scripture and doctrines etc. These I reference in my Bible with references like M001 I feel that by using these note books I have more room for writing and am somewhat future proofing when I change to a new Bible.

What happened with your Edward's Miscellanies note system? Are you still going to do that at the same time?
@MatthewEverhard
@MatthewEverhard 5 лет назад
Yes absolutely. Those are often thoughts or reflections that are related to scripture but not directly notes and commentary per se. I keep those in a separate notebook. When they relate, I note the number in the margin.

Hey, brother. I found a company; Norris Bookbinding Company. They will interleaf any Bible for around $200, including a new genuine leather cover in any color you want. You should look into getting a Pitt Minion or Cambridge WM done by them.

What do you do with your old bible after the notes are transferred?
@MTMHOUZZ
@MTMHOUZZ 4 года назад
Why transfer your notes from one bible too the new bible why not just let the old notes stay in that bible, and let God speak to you when you read the new bible, because im sure God will speak to you in new ways and with old one your kids can pull that one out and say look at what new revelations God gave my dad
