Megatron is the founder of the Decepticon uprising and their most feared leader. Bob Budiansky, the writer for the Marvel Comics series, stated that originally Hasbro took issue with the name, saying it sounded too frightening. Budiansky responded that as the lead villain, that was the point. Hasbro later agreed with his reasoning, and approved the name "Megatron".[3] The name itself probably comes from the Greek word megas (meaning great, grand), although in one of his interviews Budiansky claimed that it is in fact a portmanteau of electronic and megaton (megaton is a scientific term describing an explosive force equal to that of one million tons of TNT).[4][5]
Megatron is able to transform into a Walther P38, delivering more focused energy blasts than he could in his robotic form. He can adjust his size and mass as he transforms, to comfortably allow another Transformer or even a human being to wield him.
His robot form has an arm-mounted fusion cannon. He can retract and replace his right hand with an energy flail. He can fire electrical blasts from his hands, laser blasts from his eyes, and can reprogram computers with a port in his head. Sometimes, Megatron, upon being reformatted into a new body, renames himself Galvatron.

My friends dad gave me his original megaton from 1984. 100% complete and in practically mint condition. It was kept in box (stored in box, not unopened) for 28 years!!

i Noobprobie I said it was kept in the box, but not unopened. As in it was opened and played with, but then put back in the box for storage. It is in nearly perfect condition. it has no physical damage, all stickers are original and intact. It is complete. But it has been opened.

I had one of these growing up, and yes, Megatron had some heft to him. Sucker was heavy and metal, and I'm fairly certain he stayed in Gun-mode far more than robot.

As a child, I never got to play with or transform Megatron, or even see it done, and I have been confused and bewildered about how they got a man-shaped robot out of a gun until this night of mine! Thanx, transformer guy!

It's great seeing that toy again after all these years. I think a leg fell off my Megatron in the end. I remember I always used to mis-transform mine so that the gun barrel pointed upwards on his back like in the cartoon!

My mom would not let me get one at a rummage sale (mint in box for 10$) in the late 80's. She said that she does not want me playing with guns. And 10 bucks back then was a lot of money. My mp-36 is way better anyway. Also my real walther p38 with stock and silencer is fun to shoot. Ha ha mom I am playing with guns. LOL

Hi, the reason he doesn't look like his cartoon self is that he's not supposed to: the toy was made long before Transformers ever existed. He was actually supposed to look like the spy's gun from Man from U.N.C.L.E. Ti saluto e complimenti per le tue recensioni! Ciao!

Yes. That Megatron never gets old. I used to have the. Older microman version that came with other different guns! You can fold the barrel back behind his back too to look like the cartoon transformation .... remember? :)

Good call on not putting the stickers on the gun handle. They get worn out very quickly by being handled on a regular basis.

I purchased the original in 1984 (IIRC) in Toys R Us with my Mom back in the day. There was no thought of it being a gun being an issue at all and this was pre orange plugs. We had all sorts of gun toys back then that looked real. Different times indeed. I took my Megatron with me from NJ to England (we moved for a period) and the kids there didn't have it yet. Needless to say I was a hit on the school yard. Now I live in the USA and my original is long gone. So, I did the same as you and purchased this book edition. It is splendid. This is the BEST version to have in my book.

Thx for sharing this video. The Takara Missing Link line with Optimus Prime, there's room for improvement before Hasbro releases their version of it. With Megatron, there's a couple of changes you could make like sliding the torso upwards, the shin could be swiveled to the side to make the lower leg thicker. The same with the thighs too in making it a bit thicker&swivel side ways a bit. The torso could forward and the thighs could fold to cover the trigger or actually slide the trigger back and up along with the gun nozzle to its correct position. Add a replaceable faceplate since the original is too small.

The sword was supposed to have a purple blade, also there were a couple kids that got shot by police when they saw it, back in the 80's. You would have to look up the articles for more details, also I think a couple people used it to rob some stores.

Megatron was a fine looking gun, but like Ironhide and a few others, he was a letdown as a robot. The fact that he was the Decepticon leader makes his wimpy robot look all the worse. (Thankfully they fixed his look on the show, borrowing liberally from Darth Vader.) Optimus Prime, Soundwave, and Starscream on the other hand managed to be impressive in all their phases.

Back when I was a kid in the 70s and early 80s we ran around all over with cap guns that looked like real guns. I had two Mattel "fanner" old-time revolvers and a vintage daisy pellet rifle and a long barrel flintlock pistol that looked like a proper gun and my friends had various cap guns and rifles and back then nobody cared, it was just kids play stuff. The cops never stopped us and pulled guns on us and said we must be psycho terrorist gangbangers because we had all the "guns" because you know these days even doing "gunfinger" is the same as brandishing a real loaded handgun in some places. Lol But I think I did get nerve or brain damage from inhaling all the capgun cap roll smoke. Lol

i have a g1 Megatron original issue that says 1972 u.s.a on the side where it usually says the actual date 1974 u.s.a ( im pretty sure) . i bought it in box back in the day when the toys came out. whats the deal? is it misprint? idk its weird

It's because the toys are originally made for the japanese Takara toyline Microchange in the 70's. Most of the older G1 figures are from Takaras Diaclone line (Optimus, Sunstreaker ect.) and Microchange(Megatron, Soundwave and his cassettes). Hasbro used the moulds later for their Transforers line
