The Toyhax decal for Lynx's mouth that give him teeth is a great & simple upgrade. You were as excited as a 10 year old in 1986 when you got this at TFCON. Loved this Review, I need to get off my butt and Review my Encore version so we can compare.
I know these old G1s are kinda quirky, but they really do have so much more original personality to them. Nothing too fancy, just a good ole' cartoon creation to play with & display. Well done Bert!
I think Sky Lynx is exactly the sort of toy that demonstrates just where, I think, the Go-Bots failed, and Transformers succeeded. Both Go-Bots and Transformers sourced their main toys from pre-existing Japanese toylines and the Machine Robo stuff was pretty solid, but pretty much all the Tonka original products for Go-Bots were _really_ naff, while _this_ guy is just on a completely different level. While he's similarly bizarre and out of place among his Cybertronian as the Zod is among the Machine Robot figures, there's pretty much no contest which one is higher quality. Maybe it's a blessing that Go-Bots failed. Imagine what that toyline would've been like if it had gone on long enough to run out of Machine Robo molds to use; Go-Bots couldn't even dream of coming up with something like the Hot Rod mold!
Great video! Thank you! It's a shame Hasbro don't try to colour-match the newer figures to their G1 versions. Comparisons like that drive home how so many bright, eye-catching shades of light blue, turquoise, and teal that would otherwise make figures stand out on the shelves have been replaced with washed-out greyish blues or plain primary blue in newer versions of the characters.
Oh, man -- motorised features, lights, sounds, firing missiles, spring-loaded gimmicks, moving gears, working pistons, transparent "hover-wheels," vac-metal parts, rubber tires, Mini-Con partners . . . you seemed to get so much more VALUE in the older toys, didn't you?
@@RazyelKayneReviews Oh, man . . . well, we definitely gained on detailed sculpting and articulation, that's for sure. But cartoon "accuracy" is a whole new rendering vat of seafood. All those bright, eye-catching blues and turquoises and teals from the original toys of Sky Lynx, Perceptor, Blurr, Kupp, Gnaw, etc. are pretty much gone, replaced by washed-out blue-greys and standard primary blues. Boring.
The Gold rounded part that you see when you open up the top of the Shuttle was supposed to represent a Satellite. I wonder looking back at my childhood whether this was a copy of The Challenger that exploded.
I found one part at a thrift store as a kid then traded a school friend brother for the other half almost loved him. I would love to get the siege one but just to much be sweet if he did the toy color repaint of the figure love the light blue
I picked mine up at a tf group meetup at a local flea market. I vendor had him very cheap. I ended up putting batteries in him and when he started to walk everyone cheered. Good times. Never got that earthrise one but I do have the combiner wars one. It’s meh
