You can see that the floppy hinge at 19:20 was tight until you folded the wing at 8:51. Looks like you folded the wing before you folded the tip all the way flush, pushing it to the side, putting stress on the pin, thus rendering it floppy.
Honestly this looks like a return to form for masterpiece. I had given up on masterpiece, because what you were getting wasn't worth the price. I might pick this guy up, depending.
It’s is, it definitely is a return to form, moreover it’s an example of Takara making what should be the definitive version of a G1 toon figure. Honestly, I can’t imagine a better figure unless it was made of almost fully die cast. I’m looking very much forward to a complete definitive seeker set.
I agree but Takara needs to smarten up and stop giving us these 2.0 variants because these things cost a lot of money and when they're making multiples of what are supposed to be our definitive Transformers G1 cast, it's kind of shitty.
@@bahrahfahofficial1158 I agree I want jazz but also I do understand that Jazz was based on a Porsche so yeah we’re not gonna get one any time soon if they go for an official Porsche license
This looks like a very solid figure compared to some of the previous MPs. Nice work on the engineering. I wonder if a third party company will make a coronation set for this figure.
@@matthewschroeder2634 Dude Takara version looks way better than maketoys. Maketoys isnt even accurate too. It looked good for its time but its been dethroned hard.
Damn, this is really telling of how much Takara prioritizes Beast Wars and G1 over the movie figures. It's especially apparent with the BB MPMs. Both Bee and Prime not quite hitting the mark when it comes to accuracy to the film, but pretty good toys. Though I'm not quite sure you'd want to play so much with something that's $100+. ANYWAY, this Starscream is GODLY. Edit: I commented too early and heard you make the same points. Lmao
@@deadaquarius488 well, realistically speaking Starscream can't have a waist swivel. His design just doesn't allow it, and all those figures that tried to put a swivel there ended up with a tiny piece of the cockpit (obviously a faux part) separeted from the rest of the cockpit, and it's very noticeable. The lack of a waist swivel is completely fine for a design like this.
@@Sbungo61 Yeah,i'm totally ok with that, cuz that guy is solid as rock and he has all kinds of articulation. But tbh i'm looking forward to see that Deformation Space one,cuz it looks like they sonehow made it possible. But without a doubt mp52 Starscream best Starscream of all time
This thing is absolutely fantastic and it's what MP-11 should have been from the very start. Too bad about the weak knees and the useless stand for the bot. But that's ain't a deal-breaker.
I have the Thundercracker on pre-order. Contemplating Skywarp depending on how TC feels in hand. My favourite characters and the only way I can justify that price point. The first mold is impossible to find at retail these days with KOs flooding the market. After seeing this I'm glad I never purchased those ones. I have the old MP Dirge, Ramjet and Thrust and they are super clunky, loose and fragile. I won't even transform them. This new Takara mold looks to be well done in comparison to older ones. The smoothness and G1 animation accuracy is on point.
I got this on Monday and I'm super impressed with this mold. I already had MP-11 and I never really liked it. Probably just gonna sell it now. Hope a third party releases the coronation accessories for this one.
Incorrect. This is Masterpiece G1 Starscream 3.0. The box lies. MP-3 Masterpiece G1 Starscream is version 1, MP-11 Masterpiece G1 Starscream is version 2 and MP-52 Masterpiece G1 Starscream is version 3.
I think they're trying to say that MP-11 was more of a "1.5". As I recall, he reused a lot of the original engineering. I only have MP-3, so I can't compare.
Takara obviously got a hard on for Decepticons, since almost all good masterpiece figures are decepticons. Autobots just get shafted like Bumblebee and Arcee
I remember when there was only like, 5 or 6 Decepticons in the line among dozens of Autobots. Maybe Takara got as sick of designing them as I got of buying them
Great looking bot mode, if a bit small. I'm just sad that we no longer seem to get Hasbro versions of MPs anymore. There's just no way I can justify the price on these Takara figs.
hahaha they heard people criticising the older Starscreams for not being able to look up so they gave his neck such a ridiculous hinge this time around it's comical bravo to the engineers
This starscream is very satisfying. This is probably the best masterpiece ive seen to date in my opinion. i love this starscream. just might pick him up.
I have Starscream, Thundercracker, Acid Rain, and Sunstorm already in the old mold, but not Skywarp. I might get a Skywarp version of this mold just so I can finish the classic trio of seekers without doubling up too much in the collection.
Thanks for the video & the very high quality. At 10:01 one can get a close look at the symbol upon the wing & note that it's paint rather than a decal & also that it's upside down. Thought I could remove it and replace it with a toyhax decal after purchase. But...no.
I just got this too but I haven't gotten around to playing with it in depth yet aside from inspecting it out of the packaging. I wish that it could have retained the coronation crown tampo print that the MP-3 Takara US Edition had on the cockpit but I understand that this one is more toon accurate.
MPs, good and high quality they may be, are one line I won’t cross again because of the massive price. Especially when there’s the likes of WFC around as affordable good reps of G1 & BW. In fact there’s only one MP I got ever, mostly because it’s a personal favorite character and one that yes yet to have a modern, affordable toy: Star Saber.
Awesome review man, though I felt your pain when you bent that 'floppy piece' at 08:51 (I'd say don't feel too bad it happens to everyone at some point, but I would be gutted if it was me!)! Have you managed to fix it? Btw, whereabouts are you based? England?
I am a huge fan of this. I've always been a huge Starscream fan. When the MP-11 came out, I was not a huge fan of it. I know back in the days the Masterpiece figures are not very cartoon accurate but still, I like my figures to be accurate as what it supposes to be as possible. But it is still a good figure for it's time. Then the MakeToys Starscream came out. I was really happy. It was extremely accurate. I love it. But still not perfect. Especially the nose cone on the back. And now that we have this, my dream came true. Yes it's not perfect (like the MakeToys) but it's definetley 99% accurate. And I'm very happy with that. But that's just my opinion.;) God that took a while..
Regarding the size, if looking at the sunbow size chart (which is not accurate but whatever) this size is perfect. But obviously many people remembered starscream a bigger character next to Megatron, soundwave, etc. and I get that
Pretty good alternative for those who couldn't get Maketoys Howling Meteor, I think some of the sculpt work on this it better, mainly with the head and shoulder intakes, but the transformation is way more intuitive on MT meteor, amd he has a waist swivel without sacrificing the abb crunch.
After all these years I've just found out yesterday that the MP 11 mould has heels I can't believe I never realised. I'm going to check MP3 to see if that does too
@@tonyy.8852 even still, mp 3 was the first Starscream who went for full on realism, mp 11 was second while sure was an update is still different with half realistic and half G1 accurate, and now mp 52 which is this true Masterpiece G1 Starscream
Mine's been sitting in the box for a couple of months now and I finally had time to open it up, and I'm quite a bit disappointed actually. There are quite a few QC issues. Thankfully I haven't had any cracks in the plastic yet, but I do have ankles that are useless. They're so loose that the figure can't stand by itself and the stand absolutely pointless for robot mode.
Reminds me of megatron 2.0, looks really accurate if you are far away and squint, but it you get close enough you see more panel lines than actual detail
Mine also had a really lose flippy piece like yours did and it eventually came detached with no easy way to put it back on to have it stay so I just removed it. Kind of weird how "flimsy" that little connector is for those. Great figure and now I just have to hope for a re-issue of Megatron...
Hmmm. Maybe you can utilize starscreams neck articulation in a certain way to allow mp36 megs to choke hold him. Is this possible? I would love to know if it’s possible.
@@retrorenigade5010 Not sure if it was planned that way but the neck being on some weird, hinged articulation point gives Megatron's hand enough of a vice grip around it haha.
I'll start of by saying a love Starscream so this was going to be hard to truly impress me because I would expect the best for one of my favorite characters. When i first saw the official images of this I honestly hated it. I thought it was ugly had a massive backpack and had so much jet kibble it would compare to g1 silverbolt. But seeing it in video make it look extremely good my only minor gripes are the jet mode is more kibbly then mp-11 but not enough to ruin it and then wings due to transformation look a bit think/kibbly, but saying that the look of the rest of the jet and robot they make up for it and make it from what I see one of the best mp figures to date TLDR:Official images had the worst angles and made me hate a figure that now I've seen it in video I love it.
