In the episode “Fury” from Transformers Cybertron, Optimus Prime uses Metroplex’s Sparkdrinker in his Super Mode to battle Galvatron while he is wasn’t Megatron anymore!
Metroplex includes three modes (Robot Mode with Sparkdrinker, Worker Mode and Excavator Mode resembling a bucket wheel excavator) and an upgrade kit from his new hands or including a Minicon, Drill Bit. This figure comes inside a giant closed box package.
the only reason I could possibly see for him not including a partner figure because of "budget concerns" is because of his massive frickin weapon. I still agree he should've included something extra, but idk, I could see that being they're reasoning
@@TFCollector update on this guy. In demand toys here in the U.K. had him on a pre Christmas sale price for £89 delivered! So picked him up yesterday. Worth the risk at that price!
first time viewer and just a few tips a dark cloth back drop will help with your lighting which washes you and the figure out during the video and it will help with the sound which has an echo to it. decent review though could use some close ups while you were doing the transformation to see what is being done
Thanks for the advice. I've been trying to find the right light balance in this room. It's not my normal recording spot. I have a dedicated setup that works a lot better, but it's too small for big figures like this. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the channel. 🙂
Great review! Thank you! This guy's nifty and all, but the lack of his Mini-Con, Planet Key, and "Sparkdrinker" not converting to a more axe-like mode were the deal-breakers for me. If he'd retained all his original gimmicks, I would've seriously considered picking this up, but as it is, it's just not worth $200 to me.
THIS. Hasbro was already taking a huge risk making such a minor character into a huge, expensive figure. As most of the TF community is still mainly interested in G1, they needed to knock this release out of the park. Instead, I would still recommend the original over this half-@rsed version (and I sold my Japanese original because I thought it was cr@p).

@@Beedo_Sookcool me personally, I'm glad they shafted the stupid axe gimmick because I thought it was stupid looking to begin with. But I do agree that the should've at least given him drill bit and a cyber planet key
@@Central_Zensation Yeah, conceptually, the axe is a silly and impractical idea in-universe, but I love it from an engineering standpoint. Think about it: There's this buzzsaw that spins, right? Just like any old regular buzzsaw. Okay. Then you line it up just right, slide that, stick in this thing, and what looked like a perfectly ordinary buzzsaw that works just fine, suddenly springs wide open, emitting lights and sounds. Sorcery! Mind-boggling sorcery! 😉

I was thinking that. More poseable hands, Mini-Con, updated bucket-wheel with planet key that converts to an axe . . . they'd really do it justice. But this thing is already $200, and an add-on kit like that would be, what, at least another $80? Maybe $120? Just not enough value for money, in my book.
@@Beedo_Sookcool my thoughts are simply that if I get a solid toy in the end price doesn't matter There are 200+ buck SH figures, or SoC figures that come with nothing and are smaller Ide happily pay for a high end upgrade to complete the set, as long as it was well made and actually did everything I wanted

While I have certainly spent over $200 on single toys before -- MOTU Classics Castle Grayskull and the Sail Barge Khetanna spring to mind -- it's a very rare thing. I reckon if I'm going to drop BIG money on something, I'd need to get value for money, and I just don't see it with this guy.
@@Beedo_Sookcool I think size alone is part of the value, I mean he's the size of a g1 city bit but with modern engineering so that's pretty cool I get why stuff was removed, because Hasbro isn't just selling to collectors This is probably meant to be the big Christmas toy for the TF line So I think the value is there, I just hope that either a third-party or Hasbro give us a way to restore the cut features
I'm on the fence on this one, I really want a metroplex but I was hoping for the G1 version, the thing is that since this one has been released, God knows when they will release a G1 version if they ever do.
I’m getting into the Titans a bit as a late. I managed to pick up an Ark and Zarak over the past couple of weeks. Making room for these beasts with Omega and Tryp has been fun as my boy cave (as my wife likes to call it) isn’t all that big. I may pick this up just for the coolness factor of the robot mode. I didn’t like that run of figures back in the day but I never really watched a lot with Zarak in it either. And he is amazing. Thanks for sharing. I definitely appreciate it.
Titans have always been a must-buy for me. There's just something so cool about having a larger-than-life Transformer on your shelf. The only ones I'm not crazy about are the first Metroplex and Fortress Maximus molds. They are very simple compared to Trypticon onward.
@@TFCollector and yet metroplex is easily 500-800 on eBay most of the time, I wanted him and it was so frustrating finding him for a reasonable price after market lol 😆 but yeah I agree titans are pretty awesome, I'm caught up and plan to stay that way.....kinda hoping they make a titan Tidal Wave just for the coolness factor of him being that big (imagine the combined ship mode) but I think they may make him the next commander when they get deeper into armada as they said.
FINALLY someone set this guy next to the OG Cybertron version. This whole time I thought they were the same size. I didn't expect this version to be so damn tall!
@@ieyke I was under the impression that Titan Class toys have been getting steadily shorter. I guess that's not 100% accurate. Unfortunately, my faith in Hasbro's "gang for your buck" quality has been pretty low lately. So I just expected less for a higher price /:

@@jtelm157 I mean, Metroplex and Fort Max are technically the biggest Titans still, but they're all pretty much the same size. I think Trypticon is probably the smallest Titan.
Leaving out the mini-con is flat out strange. I'm not the target market for this sort of Transformer, but yeah if I were I would assume the mini-con would be part of what comes in the box. Great review!
They claimed it was a budget cut, but every single titan has included a small partner. I don't think guy is any more advanced than Scorponok or the Ark, who both had partners.
@@TFCollector Yeah, I just think it's strange they would omit such a small part of it, especially when every other titan came with separate pieces. What I mean is - if I were going to get this titan, not that I would love the minicon or even play with it - but I would feel put off they're charging $200 for an incomplete package. It's like those buy it now sales on ebay where they want full going market rate for a figure without including all accessories. It's like, yeah, right lol. Cybertron Metroplex (the original that is) is actually the tallest Leader class figure to date. What you mentioned about him being as tall as Primus is true because he is a Supreme class size but due to his transformation and his size, he is a big Leader class figure.
This guy came from a local Target. A lot of getting stuff early is following multiple retailers, because you never know who will get something in first.
The more I read these comments, the more I realize all the past Titan figures came with some form smaller dude. Metroplex had those black and red car dudes. Devistator and Predaking were MADE of smaller figures. Fort Max had a headmaster within a headmaster. Tryptocon had a whole deluxe stapled to his chest. Omega had Countdown. And The Ark had Mainframe. At this point, I'm more annoyed they broke the streak xD
Yep, he's the first non-combiner titan to not include a partner. It might be a little more forgivable if he didn't cost $20-$30 more than the last titan...
as always, great review! i cancelled my pre-order a while ago. he costs over 250 euro here in europe and he´s not a must have for me . but i´m sure amazon will discount him pretty soon after release. so maybe i get him then. haven´t decided yet.
Yeah I agree , apart from the absence of Drillbit and Cyber Planet Key This reimagining of Metroplex looks like a great toy especially in regards to its l size, never expect it to be this big especially how Leader and Voyager classes are becoming smaller and lacking gimmicks ( missles, lights and sounds etc) Impressive toy, thanks for the review, long but very detailed
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Funny thing about shooting these is you don't realize how long they are until you hit the editing stage. That hour felt like 20 minutes to me. 😅
As for the toy itself, the threat of yellowing alone is enough to scare me away, but I also never liked the alt mode design. The new work mode does look cool though. I think that's his best mode.
I dont think ill be getting him, unless a sale happens, cause i have the original, but i am so happy they actually made a new Cybertron Metroplex. Cybertron is my favorite toyline of all time, and i love the characters and designs, so seeing Metroplex get a new figure was just so pleasing.
i see a core/deluxe Drillbit in the future. after all all they other titans have an accessory robot for it. Slammer and Sixgun for metroplex, cog for Max fasttrack for Scorponok etc. so i see it in the future. i also see some good upgrade kits for him too. Great Review.
I am legit surprised by this figure. I dunno if I am going to actually go out of my way to get it but it looks very solid as a great update. As for the recession affecting our toys,remember that plastics are made with petrol so the rising gas prices also hurt toys. While I would find it hilarious that we could find a point where diecast is cheaper than plastic,I really don't think that such a hit to the economy is worth that.
this new metroplex has connection points to the other titans check out the side panels on the lower leg articulation.... also has connector points for the cybertron minicons in work mode near the shoulders... also the shoulder guns can be detachable and connect to any 5mm port on the figure... awesome review! cheers from Portugal!
There were two copies that had been sitting there for two days before I grabbed one. He doesn't seem to be moving fast because of the price, so you should have a relatively easy time nabbing one.
@@TFCollector I doubt he’d be a big seller with just how obscure he is. I’m mainly talking about possibly getting a Motot Master or something. Those have been popping up. Metro I can wait when it goes on sale

Great review think ya covered it all. Iam not a Cybertron guy, grew up on original g1, beast wars. But I just got legacy override and love it, so I will probably grab this guy on sale or clearance since he will be around 320 bucks here in Canada. He could be canon in my own g1 universe. Really like he has that battle mode
I think the alt-mode is supposed to be some sort of quarrying machine, and the appendages would only be required to reach the sides of a mountain or ditch, not reach the ground.
It's gotta be coming soon. This is the second titan box art to tease it. I wonder if it will have an original bot mode or turn into Trypticon, like in the aligned continuity.
I was thrilled when this guy was announced - I've developed the notion over the last few years that both Energon and particularly Cybertron have not gotten the attention/credit they deserve - and am glad to see he does not disappoint. Yes, the lack of Drill Bit is a somewhat disappointing, but not a deal breaker. Off to Target this weekend, I suppose! Also "...made it look like it does something besides 'be shorter'..." lol, fair.
@@TFCollector The shows were, bluntly, bad. And I think that is in part why the toylines get overlooked. Anyway, local Target says that Metroplex has a street date of Sunday, so I guess I will not be getting one this weekend (other plans). I did score that Buzzworthy Terrorsaur, and I like the 'bot mode better than the Golden Disk version - so much so I daresay I'd have skipped the Golden Disk version had I known this was coming down the pike. Ah, the tribulations of being a TF fan...lol.
The word "metro" is short for "metropolitan or metropolis" (belonging to or typical of a large, busy city or a largest, busiest, and most important city in a country or region.)... So how they every decided to call a massive bucket-wheel excavator Metroplex... Also why would you even want a bucket-wheel excavator as a Transformer! WEIRD.
Great Review. Thank you so much. I've purchased every Titan (all 10) until now. I'll be skipping this one as it just doesn't appeal to me. I may get the Nemesis as a counter To the Ark, but the only other new Titan I could see really having any appeal to me would be Majin Zarak.
Oh, gotcha. There's been one rumored since the Ark came out. The designers said that his box art had a hint to a future titan. Both that box and this one feature the Nemesis, so people are expecting that to show up soon.
It really depends on what you like to collect. He is a very solid titan. Definitely better than the old ones. But, some people may not like him because of his asthetic.
@@TFCollector Thanks I like him but he lacks some things as you said. If I could I would buy scorponock or black zarak but we don't have them enymore at my country and I don't want to buy them from another country. We only have the ark here.
I just got my copy today and I like it way more than I expected. Oddly enough the work mode is the highlight for me, the tool hands really sell it. I'm not sure why his alt mode gets so much hate when Scorponoks alt mode can barely be described as a robot scorpion
@@benvoliothefirst I was exaggerating, but if I were redesigning Scorponok I'd give him a tail that could actually reach past his head and legs that weren't so tiny. Don't get me wrong, I like his alt mode, but it's no less ridiculous than Metroplex IMO
This toy is an absolute slap in the face of Transformers collectors at this price. It's no wonder the 3rd party and KO's are doing so well. This POS is a joke at half the price. Why does anyone support this blatant price gouging? Anyone who does buy this only supports higher prices.
Of all the characters to redesign this guy needed it the most. I was quite excited to see an updated version of this with better proportions but I guess they decided this fit in enough to not even try. Huge pass for me, too expensive and not a great looking design, had the robot looked better and not as goofy as the old one it might be worth it.
They obviously did fix the proportions though? Especially in the legs and torso area. I do agree though because as much as I like the original toy this one just looks too similar to the old one and has fewer play features to justify spending 180 dollars on it
@@cuppastuff1693 it definitely is better proportioned to the older one but my main point was that I think they could’ve done more redesigning specifically in the leg and arm area to just get a cooler look. Kinda the same thing they do with all the G1 stuff, it doesn’t look exactly like the cartoon but it’s obvious where the design ideas are coming from. Had this pushed the design a bit more to qualm some of the weird look I would’ve easily been in
Cr*ppy alt modes, no minicon and faaaar too expensive. Like many other TF collectors, this is an easy pass. Maybe if it came down to just under $100, I might be interested. Hasbro really needed to make this thing sing, compared to all the other G1 titans to get the majority, G1-loving fans interested, but they dropped the ball on this one.

I'd actually prefer them do a new G1 Metroplex that matches the current Trypticon's size. I don't mind him being a little shorter if we get a better figure out of it.
Cybertron Metroplex is the lamest titan ever released. It has no base mode at all, which means little to no interaction with the Legends/Core Class figures. Lame! Metroplex is supposed to be a city/base for the Legends/Core Class figures to interact with. This will be a hard pass for me. I'll take the money that I would have spent on it and put it toward purchasing Thrilling 30 Metroplex. I would prefer a more G1 accurate Metroplex which is more faithful to the original design, though. When people first heard that Metroplex would be the Legacy Titan, I know that EVERYONE was hoping for a G1 accurate Metroplex. Great Review!
I think this is a great figure, but I do agree that he's not the most logical choice for a titan. He lacks playset value and the lack of connectors is a bummer.
The video is split up into chapters, you can watch the sections that appeal to you. Or you could continue whining about the excellent video that somebody put effort into and released, for free, to show us a cool thing.
