You’re my inspiration. I’m a 76 year woman who just fixed a hole in my drywall. Not a big deal but at least I didn’t have to hire someone to do it. Really enjoy your videos.

I have never underestimated you. You have outlined your goals every step of the way, and I have whole heartedly believed in your ability to see them through to accomplishment. You have shown over and over how far your inspiration and determination will take you. You work hard, and are learning and improving your skills. You have done what many other's would never consider doing on their own, and I find that so encouraging and very inspiring.

I remember so well when you decided to build your own kitchen cabinets. You said, "They're just boxes", or something close to that. And you did it. Then the fronts and the island. BAM, you got yourself a kitchen. Amazing!! Thank you for being such a great inspiration. Can't wait to see this next phase & all it brings.

I can not even put into words how excited I am to continue watching your journey into motherhood. I have been a long-time follower - like talking short hair MaCenna days! I spent so many nights awake watching you in the last however many years that would be, in my own motherhood journey. I am so excited for this year and all the projects, and watching them unfold. ❤ That had me tearing up as I’m starting to reno my home and it’s never felt like home when I was married. The naysayer always underestimated me. I’m having fun putting my personality into it and love DIY. I’ve painted furniture, a few rooms, hung curtain rods, need to make curtains, decluttered and have peace. So much to do but I figure it out and do it although it might not be perfect. Thanks for all the inspiration, MaCenna.

Absolutely! Wouldn’t it be great to have seen men’s first attempts at DIY? None of us would tell them they can’t do it or could learn a new skill. We’d encourage them to pursue their dream of DIY. We certainly wouldn’t judge them on their first attempts knowing they’ll learn something new with each attempt.

@savebees each gender has its own roles & advantages over the other. To hear some talk these days they would have us believe that men aren't needed at all, and that women excel in every single area, but it just isn't true. Men are just naturally better leaders & negotiators, better at sports and work that requires great strength & endurance, just as women are better caregivers and better at problem solving, decorating, organizing & reasoning. It's our different roles & strengths that make our parterships & families work so wonderfully.

I remember starting to watch you around the time you built those patio chairs for your old LA apartment, and completely falling in love with your energy and amazing skills. Watching you build your home in Texas, buying and creating a new home in LA and now watching you become parents.. all of it is just so exciting, and I truly have watched every single video since with anticipation and excitement ❤

I think the next season of your Podcast would be good to center around this concept -- transforming a house into a home. Whether it be your California storybook home and/or the Texas Cottage. Curating items, styling, crafting that 'cozy' feeling in different ways through different seasons of life. Have you ever considered using the leftover bookcases from Ikea for your larger living room behind your sofa. While I'd love to see built-ins there one day the Ikea ones would fill the space and give your storage for now. Your new baby will have lots of things you will want to put away. McCenna, I remember when you painted the window casings black in your apartment. It was such a stunning transformation. I loved watching the Texas cottage come to life. When you and your mom lifted the wall that you two built, it was just a foretaste of future projects in the cottage! Your Texas cottage revokes such sweet hominess and the power of restoration. I think it also helps when you are lucky enough to have parents who are builders & have built, designed & decorated many homes throughout your life! You are truly blessed to have such motivated, creative & hard working humans to look up to! To have experienced seeing their ideas on paper come to fruition - that influence & real time experience is priceless!! Still, watching your journey go from some smaller home diy's to actually taking an old home down to the studs & "with your bare hands" build it into the home of your dreams has been nothing short of amazing!! You are an inspiringly consistent hard worker who says what they're going to do & then does what they say! You are a true inspiration MacKenna! I started following right before you bought the cottage, and I'm amazed at absolutely everything you do! I remember how much pride you had for building a wall - like why does it make me emotional?? I also remember when you went estate sale shopping with your mom once, who brought along pre-written "Sold" tape so she could go through it fast. She said "All these people (in line) are here to take my things!" 🤣 Reminds me of my mom

Love when you’re saying to your mom, we can do anything we put our minds to.! As a teacher of 36 years, I used to encourage my middle school girls all the time. First of all seeing you pregnant is just magnificent. You are glowing, but of course you have always been beautiful. And then second to say that you are not an expert, I think I would have to slightly disagree. I have watched you for quite a few years now and to see what you have created, especially at the cottage is just mind blowing. Here me out You should use the guest room as a master bedroom and nursery And the downstairs bedroom as a guest bedroom Believe me as mom of 3 kids Doing a nursery so far away from your bedroom is worst nightmare You will definitely be living upstairs with him for sure So better do it in first place

Second night the baby is home everyone will be in the spare room, or they will all be sleeping in the master. If she's breastfeeding, there's no way having the nursery upstairs is going to work. You've got the stairs to be concerned about (running up and down in the middle of night). You'd need a gate once they're a toddler, then they'll stand at the gate and cry for the parents. I'd just put a bassinet in the master (or the family room). A child won't sleep alone upstairs for years if your room is so far away from theirs. All things new parent have to learn thru trial and error...

@@RedPynda123yes, but that still leaves the issue of having your toddler upstairs alone & giving up a guest room entirely. It just seems to be more logical to have master & nursery upstairs and to turn current master bedroom into an office/guest room, since it's big enough to be multi-functional, plus away from the family space so that the guest won't feel uncomfortable. I'm sure she's gonna want mom to come & stay for a visit after baby's arrival, but where would she sleep?

Boy oh boy I’m scared when I start them, but as you said “PLAN!” I was blown away when you created that thingamagiggie that made grooves! But even better your own cabinets!!! I've been staying in someone elses home for the past week and this topic has been on my mind looking at how they have styled their home, specifically the part of designing your home to make you happy. I'm big on hospitality and welcoming others into our space, but I choose items that I think are beautiful and cozy and welcoming, and some people may not like that but they aren't living here.

Thank you for your inspiration. I'm getting ready to paint my livingroom & though it's not a huge room, I am going to be 77 next month & have been painting interiors since I was 16 & painted my bedroom myself. So it now takes me longer but I'm always thrilled with the end result. Amazing what paint & color can do to a room. Last summer I painted my bedroom & did an accent wall that I turned into a beautiful gallery wall. Such a joy to wake up in the morning. I live with my son & family in a new next gen home. I have my own apartment inside the home. Was sick of looking at primer walls that they paint in new houses. I need color. So hope to keep on climbing ladders & painting till God calls me home. ❤

Good for you! Keep on going - but do be careful on the ladders! Im sure your apartment will be beautiful when you have it all painted in lovely colors!

@@Lucinda_Jackson thank you. I'm very careful which is why it takes me longer. I found a new ladder which is almost a tall step stool with wide platform steps, just the right height to reach the ceiling & ..lol, I always pray for God to protect me.👍😊

Also, I think it will force a slight change in your channel but likely a welcome one for all the reasons you’ve described and also to keep you from becoming too much of a construction channel, which I know you tired of. Congratulations on the baby!! I'm sure the nursery will be stunning! I hope when you redo the kitchen that you keep some of the vibe that's there...just LOVE the windows and the bones of the room, though it definitely needs a better configuration. I just realised, you've gotten me through most of my PhD. I found your channel in 2019 and have followed religiously here on YT and Spotify ever since, but I started my PhD in October 2018, and I'm getting ready to submit now. I'm disabled and I've always been underestimated and undersupported and misunderstood and it's felt really lonely. But your videos have lightened my mood, given me ideas and inspiration. Your attitude towards creativity and developing yourself and not letting others decide who you are and what you can do has taught me a lot and given me so much hope. Instead of feeling sorry for myself being alone on my journey, your brightness and persistence has inspired me to reframe and see myself more like a pioneer and innovator in my field and my life. You inspire me and give me hope, I'm so grateful to have been exposed to your mindset and to see you grow as a creator and in your skills. I have been impressed and amazed by how you learned ti build cabinets and so much more at the cottage in Texas. I have loved how you have transformed your house in LA. Mid COVID I discovered the cottage Reno and went into the rabbit hole of binge watching the entire series as well as the vlogs. This 70 yo made a career as a jet engine mechanic for the dept. of the navy. I simultaneously spent 20 years as an army reservist. My job there was as a boatswain on a Landing craft (LCU). Both jobs were dominated by men. However, I found little resistance from my cow workers once they realized my determination and dedication to doing the job well. Bravo to all the women out there crushing the ceilings.

MaCenna, I watch you ecause you inspire me to imagine more and not limit myself. I am shocked to realize that I turned 64 in December when it was just a few months ago that we married and had our two children. Those adorable kids will be 39 and 37 about the time your baby is born. Your vids are what I have tried my hardest-st to instill in both my children. Don’t limit yourself. Don’t allow others to place limits on you. If you want to do or be something, be willing to work hard to achieve it. The most important thing in your life is never money but love of yourself and others. Surround yourself with others who love you and give you encouragement and sound advice. They are both making me proud as I know that both sets of parents are proud of the two of you!
