I used scrap wood around the shop to make a DIY desk caddy that will help organize my workspace. As I was making it, I thought it would be fun to make it customizable. I decided to make it so the business card holder is removeable and a phone charging station can be quickly added. In what situation will I need such a thing? No clue, but that’s not what this woodworking project is about. It’s about using scrap wood to make something fun in the shop. If you are a woodworker like me then you probably have scrap pieces of wood laying around. Come up with a cool idea and make it, regardless of how practical or silly it is. Have fun and build something awesome!

Small projects like this are great skill builders.

Absolutely. There can be a lot of woodworking packed into something like this.

Projects like this are some of my favorite things to do, especially in my shop!

It's always fun to make something sort of on the fly and not be afraid to change things up.

Thanks for this project video. I believe that the majority of guys/gals watching woodworking videos are guys like me.....a guy with limited tools in his garage and a guy looking for a project that he can realistically complete in his garage with his limited tools. We're never going to have $20,000 to $30,000 worth of tools in our garage. We like finding projects like this that we can do in a weekend. Thanks again for this video. Your ability to explain your projects so that we can follow along and understand is a real plus.

I completely understand. I started off with a folding table and a $90 craftsman table saw. I will sometimes use tools that are expensive. But I never do it to show off. I could have used my cnc to carve the dish but a little router works well too.

@@NewtonMakes I admit that it's occasionally entertaining to watch you makers use the expensive tools ( cnc, sawstop, etc), but usually I just pass on these videos since I could never replicate the project. I saved today's project on my RU-vid account so that I can make a few for Christmas. It's not the first 'Newton Video' that I've saved. Thanks again for the video.

The scroll saw made cutting the template much easier than the bandsaw.

Hey thanks for the heads up on this. It will make a great gift for some one. The magnet's is great. I think you can make a notch at the bottom of the phone rest to run the chargeing cord through.
@NewtonMakes
@NewtonMakes 2 года назад
I was going to do that and forgot until I after I applied finish. 😔

Great little project. Only thing I would add is a notch at bottom of the phone holder so that the cord can pass out the back and out of the way.

Yep I planned to and then forgot. It would have been a nice little touch.

Should make one with the magnetic charging dock mounted in the back of the phone holder
