Thanks mike. After I have watched your channel I am always inspired to try the things you make, this beautiful bowl will be my next project. Guilty secret , I always say it was my idea, but my wife says it's funny how I always come up with original ideas after watching your channel. I think she's on to me.

I had no idea black locust is fluorescent! I'm so stinking excited now because as a new turner, I've been gifted a fairly large piece of it and I can't wait to plan what I'll be making of it! Instead of one large item, I'll definitely be turning a few boxes and things from it. I can't wait!!!! Squeals of pure joy and anticipation!!!!!

@MikeHolton I absolutely will! My birthday was on the 18th and the hubby got me a Powermatic 3520C with most all of the bells and whistles, attachments and goodies (we didn't get the swing away for the tail stock) but had to get a new breaker box to wire it in. That's finally done, so I'm moving everything from his shop to my own. I'm so excited!!!!! I'll just be over here stalking your channel, watching for ideas and admiring your pretties in my down time. 😊

Hi Mike, Another stunning piece. I would never have thought to use French Chalk as an inlay. As you say it is always good to experiment. The finish on the bowl really does show of the grain and the resin inlay. It was also nice to see the turning under the black light and the edge of the lip was especially bright. When the bowl was still on the lathe, I was noticing a couple areas in the rim that looked blurred to me. Then you pointed them out and explained that those areas were thin to almost transparent, and I just thought "ahh, that explains that it is real and not just my eyes". I think I *knew* that black locust glowed but I've never *seen* it before. It is really impressive! The wood and inlay under regular light look so good, and under the black light just look unreal! The non-glow of the inlay I think really emphasizes the glow of the wood. Thanks for continuing great experiments!

Hello Mike. I remember when you part-turned the bowl, and thought how lovely it was at the time. What you have created with it is beautiful. The comments you made regarding the edge are pertinent. But, as you also said, this was an experiment and the only way to move forward is through testing and challenging new ideas. In this instance it has produced a piece of art that is quite lovely. And you should be very proud of this achievement - especially as it is also the grounding for future adaptions on the theme. And I will look forward to seeing how they turn out in the future. Have a great week.

Hi Mike, I just love the way the Black Locust fluoresces like that. I'll have to see if I can get some without giving up my first born. Hmm, on second thought that might not be such a bad deal.... I'm kidding. They'd pay ME to take her back. LOL. And a very clever use of the soapstone. I've used it many times over the years but only as a marking tool. All in all, a very nice bowl you've made. Take care and keep turning, Bill Riley.

Black Locust really does have an interesting grain and coloration. This is a great way to show that off!!

Lovely inlay. I’m pretty sure you can heat the resin in a hot water bath to make it thinner and flow more easily. Nicely done.
