I did an area about the same length and width but with a bigger borrowed tractor and a set of 12 foot disks. The discs were set to only go in the ground 2 or 3 inches maximum. I initially thought this was a problem but I went over the ground until it was pulverized to dust there was none of those clumps in my situation you showed us. Then I borrowed a cultivator and went deep and broke it and softened it up. It was to plant trees and lilacs so you may not want to go as deep since you want it packed to seed grass. And yes I think I had even more rocks than you, we can never be lucky enough to escape those damn things.

Yeah. Most of the first year with the tractor I thought I made the right choice but now that I’m starting to use it for the occasional farming application I kinda wish I got the Ag tires

Nice video Adam glad to see I’m not the only one with rocks. I was wondering why in a previous video you didn’t bury all the shanks so now I know too much for tractor. I forget your tractor is smaller than mine. I still have to adjust the height with mine on the go especially when breaking new ground. Take care brother.

Yeah I thought when we bought the property that the field would be really nice soil since it was previously farmed but it’s a lot of rock haha

Looks great. I hate renting things, have you looked for a used disc. In my area there are a lot for your size tractor and pretty cheap too. Last week I bought a 10' chain drag and 2 months ago I found a 8' S tine. Sometimes it takes a while but I'm looking for 8' wide minimum and it's harder to find. It's nice to have it when you need it and you sound like you are going to have more projects in the future.

I’ve been looking but there’s not much out there in my area. There’s a couple 6’ discs around for about $500 but they’re angle iron instead of square tubing. Might be too light to dig in as far as I want them too

Great video good sir. I've been trying to look at videos of turning a portion of our field into a small riding arena, but can't find anything on the actual groundwork of tearing up and smoothing out a grass field. This is by far the best and closest video to what I was trying to find. Thank you, and I'll be browsing your other videos. Especially nice seeing you have the Ck3510. I have the Bobcat Ct2025, which is the same as the ck2610, so very similar machine, except slightly less powered than yours. Edit: This says Part 1... is there a labeled Part 2? I'm not finding it if so...

I tried this last season and the box blade was useless. But my grass was much thicker and taller so I just ripped up clumps. You soil looks very dry and loose so the box blade can do something. I pick up a discer from auction this weekend as I plant to do a few passes with that to get the soil exposed. When it drys out and the grass dies a bit I will disc again and then use the box blade to smooth things. Hoping this will fix the parts of the lawn that keep breaking mowers.

Tenacity will kill undesirable grass & weeds just use surfactant which is like a glue for herbicides so it clings to the weeds and I use lazer which is a dye. U can spray it everywhere and it won’t harm grass or flowers. Just go by the directions. For 1 gallon 1 teaspoon tenacity, 1 1/2 tablespoons surfactant & 2-3 teaspoons Lazer a little goes a long way just a quick spray don’t soak it!! Good luck 👍🏻

For the roots its best to plough the field and then till the soil, the ploughing will rip most of those roots out and then the tilling to just mix up all the soil.. when you plant the grass any remaining roots won't survive as the grass will take over. How does it look now, do you have any video?
@HardwayRanch
@HardwayRanch 4 года назад
A landscape rake will pull out all those root balls like magic - in fact they will probably clog up the rake so you'll need to pick them out by and. But don't expect the same results with the rocks - it can be done with a landscape rake but will take countless passes to get results you want.

I’m actually now looking at a power rake. Trying to see if I can find one to rent
@HardwayRanch
@HardwayRanch 4 года назад
@@HometownAcres I'm not sure exactly what kind of power rake you're looking at renting. But if it is similar to a street sweeper or a road broom, I think it will move a lot of small pebbles and stone but leave the larger rocks behind. If you do try out the tool share some video!
@HometownAcres

No the one I’m looking at has carbide teeth. Kind of like a rototiller but with shorter 2” carbide teeth. Supposed to pull up rock and spit them out to the side

I think I probably would have sprayed the area first with glyphosate to kill everything. Then proceed from there if you want good weed free grass. Once you get the rocks out, amend the soil if it needs it and flatten and plant. That stuff at the end will decompose in no time.

I have a similar situation to become lawn. wild growth has come up, weeds etc. I sprayed the weeds with Glyphosate and am giving a week to die, will the weeds come back up through my prepped soil if I plant grass???

Cool pic of you and AJ! Love watching the Kioti work. Your videos are one of the reasons I went with Kioti earlier this summer. My 2610 has been awesome so far. Curious, were you just being overly cautious to start out? I would have no doubt the 35 would be plenty of tractor after using mine for about 20 hours.

I wasn’t worried about power I was worried about traction. When I did this in the spring for the blueberry rows the ground was much softer and I was spinning a lot more. Just wanted to make sure I’d be able to dig down a good 4-5” without losing traction before I started adding more teeth

Hey just curious if you ever wish that you would have bought the ck4010se. I'm looking into buying the 3510se or 4010se just cant decide if the money is worth the extra hp.
@HometownAcres
@HometownAcres 4 года назад
If you don’t think the 3510 will be enough I’d recommend jumping into the DK series. I don’t think there is a big enough difference between the ck3510 and the ck4010 to justify the cost. But I’m very happy with my 3510. 95% of the time it does everything I need it to. Really the only thing it doesn’t do well is this farming type of work
@fromthefallen784
@fromthefallen784 4 года назад
Thanks for the input. I honestly think that I may just be over thinking it. The DK series would be nice but I definitely don't have the land for that. So maybe the 35 would be enough. Seems like they can really handle more than it appears on paper.
