Been a custom home builder for 30 years. That looks like a solid structure. Nothing that a pressure washer and some bleach wouldn’t clean up. You need to build a cap on those walls and build a solid roof. I’m telling you that structure cleaned up and painted inside and out would be a great place to live. GOOD LUCK GUYS ‼️‼️ Vinny 🇺🇸

If the chickens are free range & going under the RV they are eating the bugs. No need to spray. Also mix Diatomaceous earth with chicken feed daily to keep them healthy. It also gives the calcium for firm egg shells.

Or any you cut down in the future. Do the Burn Seal on them. I don’t think that’s the technical name for it. If you watch My Self Reliance. He Burns the Chars the wood to make his Cabin and Outdoor Kitchen. Especially if you’re setting it into the ground. Rot and Termites will not be an issue. Looks like you got a fair amount of wood around you.🤭 I’ll never grow up. OH one more thing. Make your own Sod. It’s durable af. And is just as beautiful. Fun to make. It can be free to very very low cost building material to make. Just our 10 Cents…Inflation! Ok. Stay safe in that Rainforest. We ain’t outta Hurricane season yet. Your a hell of a man Matt! I I’m 72 now, but I remember when I was your age . I always felt the only reason something couldn’t be done was because I wasn’t trying. Take a look at you tube and pole barn roof construction. Strong roof and cheap to build. Also as you go on keep in mind that those walls are poured. I think. If so I think you should be able to build up and double your space. Keep up the great work.

I tried it in my backyard. My house was built in 1914. When the wind kicked it almost ripped my old stucco walls apart. You’ve got solid concrete, rebar, and trees. It would give quick easy shelter. You can get all the water you want from the river. I needed water building my house and I put a centrifugal pump down by a small lake and hard piped the pickup. Then a garden hose up the hill to my house. Plug in the pump and instant water. With a float switch in the cistern it could be automatic.

If the roof is only temporary, use bamboo, tie it off with re-bar wire, cheap enough. Here's another tip Matt, get yourself a chammy's cloth to strain the gas through. It will soak up any contaminated gas that has water in it. Get a can of roof patch for any holes in the roof metal, use flat stick to apply it on the corrugated metal.

New watcher here! I know I’m going to enjoy watching your progress… super impressed with your hard work, ingenuity with building and reusing what you can, (no the roof is not so pretty, but I’m glad you can at least use the space for storage. And hey! With a view like that, what’s to complain! Kittens are super cute and fresh eggs from chickens! Life is good!

I think the structure just needs pressure washing and paint. Those walls have made it this long...so it's good. You should figure if you want A frame roof, slanted roof, a second floor, . Make off grid house, wonder if you have septic tank or what

I think the abandoned house would make a great chicken coop. You could put up fencing to give them a run. Chickens love to scratch the soil to look for worms, bugs and baby snakes. Good luck!

Great progress....and wonderful site with flowing creek! Smart move with Chickens & Cats....they will keep the bugs & rodents at bay, and give give you great joy on the homestead ! Might want to add a 2x on one side of top plate to give the roof some pitch for heavy rain runoff if you don't already have some pitch? For wind driven rain you could rig up a rolled up tarp over the shelves to keep gear dry.

Engineered Trusses would be easy to have measured and order. The two of you could set them. Once up, you pick your roofing material. Now you have a shelter!

Matt: In addition to being a certified sailor, I have spent a great deal of time in PR over a period of approximately 9 years from 2004 to 2012 from Aquidilla/Cabo Rojo to Fajardo and Ponce to San Juan and am very familiar with the people, places and issues that exist there. Where you are building your future is a considerably different environment that living on your boat in a marina or anchored in a delightful cove with other sail boats in close proximity. You are not in Key West or Miami. You must provide for your security at all times. Wishing you and Kristen well. John K

You might keep that vegetation in mind as slope stabilization. Make sure you don’t lose that hillside into the creek. Sure is beautiful country! Cant wait to see what it turns in to!🎉🎉🎉
