I'm pretty sure he was struggling with it internally and he came to the realization eventually that it would be too much for him to go through despite his best intentions. A straight guy having to explain it all to friends and family is a huge deal with everyone questioning his sexuality. Very few guys would go through with this level of commitment.
I don't think that the guy did anything wrong. He was actually more open-minded than a lot of other guys. Some men will not even go out with a post-operative transsexual. He liked you and was at least willing to go out with you, but only if you were post-operative. He was also straight-forward about it. I know that some transwomen are lesbians, but I'm going to presume that you are totally straight. What happened with you and him can be likened to you going out with a guy that you like and him telling you, that he has a vagina not a penis. I mean, for me, that would definitely be a deal breaker, because I love what a man has between his legs and I would not go out with him once I knew that.

just a counter point here. He did know you were trans, and wanted to explore the possibilities of what could be. And he was honest and straight forward with you where he was at that moment. Relationships take a long time to build, and he didnt bail at the first speed bump, and he also didnt lie to you about anything. Your life is your life and it is up to you to decide if you have made good or bad decisions but this guy was open and honest as well as still interested in you after he found out. Not to mention he did not confront you but rather waited until you were ready to open up to him about it. He could have been more sensitive than to use the phrase "a penis is a deal breaker" but guys dont always express their feelings in the most delicate of ways....he said it was a deal breaker but knew about you and still asked you out and flirted with you.

As a transgirl I can relate I have had some bad boyfriend's and I am open and honest before I even decide to go on a date with a guy. It got to the point that because I am bisexual I decided to swear off men for awhile and date a lesbian girl but she was more interested in drugs and using me for my money than be with me!! Gender history disclosure and sexual preference can both be such minefields in this ultra-binary world, but don't be disheartened. After many unsuccessful attempts at finding someone that would go past first couple of dates with me, have now been very happy and in love with my openly trans-amorous partner since early 2015. I usually say "hi, my name is Jes, I am a freak." My friend told me that I should just say "hi". So these days I am conscious of not telling a person the truth about me, which makes me feel I suck. At 61 I have little or no hope of finding a person as a companion/mate. My family live till around 90-100 years old. I have no intention of living another 40 years alone. There are plenty of married guys out there I have had sex with and want sex with me, but these days I want something more permanent like a relationship. If a person can't take what's down below (if you female or male) then I believe they have a problem with their own sexuality. I found what you said to be very moving. I am a man in my fifties and as a child I have always been most attracted to transwomen. I have had serious relationships with genetic and transwomen and have enjoyed both. I have only had a deep emotional relationship with my current girlfriend who is trans. We are going to be married. I wish I knew who liked this... the world is changing and men are more open... it took for me to actually meet a transgender woman who I wound up really getting to know for me my daughters mother had had bi-polar and split personality and I wasn't ready to move on yet to a relationship cause of my daughter and not bringing women around her so that she didn't get attached but she didn't tell me why but we hung out as like a couple [holding hands and having my arm around her she was like 5 foot four and I am 6 foot and no one knew she was trans and now looking back I understood why our relationship went the way it did but hanging out with her basically everyday just talking for hours a couple times we even stayed over each others house but we never so much as kissed without tongue and by the end of 2 months i went to kiss her and she pulled back and i told her that I couldn't pretend that i wasn't falling for her and that if she wasn't interested in me that was fine but I can't continue to pretend that us holding hands and being affectionate isn't sending me mixed signals and then she just said i have my reason and I want to tell you and I just told her she didn't have to patronize me its obvious that your 100Xs more attractive to me and you just don't want a relationship with me and then she just told me that she was a pre op transgender woman and TBH if she had told me day one i wouldn't have been able to get out of my own way but after 2 months I had fallen for the PERSON and HUMAN BEIN she was inside and I just kissed her right there and then and we wound up sleeping together and then consequently staying over each others houses for the next year and a half and then we just wanted different things I had a daughter and by this point she was older like 3 31/2 she is five now and she was a month shy of 2 when her mom / my fiancé passed away she is the only one still to this day that I ever introduced to my daughter... she was the most beautiful woman I had never been with and the most genuine and caring person I had ever been with I still love her we just were about 5 years apart and she wasn't looking for the same things I was looking for a wife and a step mom to my daughter... either way she was a mona she is a woman I still classify myself as a straight man seeing as she was the only trans woman I have been with a of yet but also seeing as she is a trans WOMAN and I am attracted to the female physique ... I normally don't comment on here but, I fealt that the experience you went through warrants one. when I was much younger, about 14, I and my family decided that I should transition from MTF. Long story short, I later changed my mind, but I'm off topic a little. I just wanted you to know that unfortunately this happens when you go through this process. It will happen more, I'm sure, but please do not let it discourage you. You are a young, beautiful, intelligent woman and you will find the right man. Just have patience. I know how you feel as I had a number of incidents identical to the one you describe in your video. You are very brave and I commend you.

The whole time you were with your friend he would have been questioning his own feelings and the things he might ultimately have wanted from a relationship with you and it just wasn't for him and that's okay! Many years ago a young lady hit in me. She was attractive, and nice to talk to. She later told me she was trans, which surprised me. Long story short, I respectfully told her that I'm not interested in dating a trans person. She was cool about it, at the end of the day each person needs to respect the decision of the other person.
