Stop coloring/dyeing hair two yrs ago. Now I'm 54. As an old expression says, "if you don't mind it don't matter". I'm like this now. Just happy my hair is now healthy.

I’ve had gray since I was six. My parents colored it through high school. I stopped coloring in 1977... My gray is now silver. This hair is the hardest hair to work with but it’s mind. I’ve been rockin my salt and pepper hair for over 50+ years and now she’s turning white. I have just been embracing the new look on me.

a dear friend of mine told me she regrets not embracing her gray hair when it initially started. She kept coloring and would end up with three different hair colors and she soon grew sick of it. Once she decided to embrace it, she was completely gray and unveiling it was the hard part. Do whatever makes you happy.

Going Gray was the best thing for me. The color was making my hair dry & weak. Little pieces of hair would be everywhere. My scalp also feels better. I was in my fifties when I stoped coloring. I also look very young for my age. Surprisingly, I get a lot of complements, men and women. Some women would say I wish I had the courage to do it. One thing I will say it's your self confidence. Not what other people think. I even colored it twice and was sorry. Had to start over again. Now my hair is so healthy. I love my Gray hair. Be encouraged ❤

I’m 48 & i decided I was going to embrace my grey. I have a big grey patch in the middle of my head also. I like it. Grey hair can be unruly. I get a lot of compliments on my grey & believe it or not there from men. I don’t thing the grey is going to make you look old. You can rock any hair style you want. Be confident and you’ll look great!

I started seeing grey hairs about 6 or 7 years ago. I never dyed my hair and now I'm 42. I used to be very self-conscious about them, but no one ever said anything either way. Not my friends and not my husband, so that allowed me to thunk about them less, and feel more comfortable with the natural hair journey and the graying of my hair. Don't let the gray hairs control you. You take control of them in whatever capacity that makes you feel comfortable. I'm willing to bet though you will still be beautiful and Youthful whether you let them shine or continue to cover them up. That's the beauty of us. It's black girl magic!

I stopped dying my hair this year and best decision ever! I'm here for it if u decide to keep it grey! (Or even if u don't!) it's been challenging to find channels with natural grey hair. So far, my greys have been manageable, I just have to be careful about the color of my hair products because they some can stain the hair. Good luck and keep us posted!

Perceptions are sometimes difficult but at the end of the day I respect my resolve to do and be what I want. If you want gray, wear it! If you want color, wear it! You do you! My most complemented style choice was from your first ABC series -Reign. Graying hair and all !!!!

Thank you so much for this video! I started coloring my hair after I went natural and just recently my curl pattern just went limp and I hate it so I am thinking about growing my gray out and my gray looks just like yours right in the middle and specks throughout. So I’m going to try letting it grow out and see what happens. I’m 50 but people say I look like I’m in my 30’s but I’m still not ready for this. But thank you for sharing so at lest I no I’m not going through this alone

My story is a tad personal but I didnt start going gray until after my dad was murdered. That situation also caused me to grow up. So I look at gray as either a sign of wisdom or stress lol but stress can also give birth to wisdom if you let it. My mom was in her late fifties when that happened so she had gray hair, but she said her hair completely turned white after that incident. I dont have a whole whole lot of gray and I'm 36 so I mean by now I think it's normal for it to be gray, but I will not color cause I feel like it's me and a reflection of my life experiences. Honestly everyone I knew had started turning gray in their early 20s... I think people gray earlier now and men's hair lines recede earlier too. I'm not sure why though.
@NaturallyMichy
@NaturallyMichy 6 лет назад
I love it when you said, "stress can also give birth to wisdom if you let it". I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I believe that stress can play a part in the aging process and you are definitely not lying about that receding hair lines with men.

I’m 44 and I’m gray in the center and around my edges and back.. I’m so tired of coloring it every 3 weeks . I also started graying at age 21.. I’m about to let it go and just embrace it. My husband constantly me to let it go and that he didn’t marry me for the color of my hair. He married me because he loves all of me and that is all that matters.. I’m like Yes! Good luck with your journey.

I understand your hesitancy but I commend you for attempting to embrace it. I'm also in my 30's, with significantly more grey than you, and I'm not at a point where I'm ready to rock it. Now I generally just LOVE the look and versatility of colored hair, but you're right... it's different when you HAVE to do it. Although I know my hair would be thicker without coloring, I just don't see myself committing to it until I'm 50+, retired, or felt God moved me to. Oh yeah... it is a totally different texture, wiry, dry, and stubborn to style. But you may find it easier to deal with during your "going grey" journey. Best wishes!

Soo glad to see this video. I'm 39 which is still young! lol I'm trying to embrace my gray. No support at all.... I've colored like you for fun for years but trying to keep the new halo covered is a challenge. yes grays are unruly, but Demi and rinses do not change the texture. I did a permanent color years ago and did not have a good experience. Men and women have both conditioned themselves to the gray hair stereotypes that gray=old, letting yourself go, etc. for women. I'm going to try and hang in there!

Hello. I have chose to embrace my gray hair since it started coming in while in junior high school. I have more gray than my older siblings. I was about to dye my hair brown, then my son announced I was going to be a grandparent and I didn't want to look like I was having a mid life crisis due to his news. I found that I love my hair even the stubborn gray bits. I have a Rouge streak in my hair and it's beautiful. Do what's best for you and love your decision because it's yours hair and you have to live with it.

My hair is henna dyed. Everyone loves the color because it is orange and black with Auburn towards the back of my head. It's this color because the colored parts are white. I tell people that my hair is mostly white. They don't believe me because I have a youthful face. I wore out up to 3 inches of salt and pepper roots, and the stares! It was amazing to watch. Even young men were caught staring. When I recently colored my hair again, I discovered that I was getting USED to the white roots. My face was more distinctive with white hair. The color drowns out my features. Weird, right?

I've always loved my natural hair color. When the grays started to show out with a vengeance and people would stand over me just to comment on how old I'm getting, I started to color my hair regularly. I want to be able to embrace my hair along with the grays. I just don't want to be questioned over and over again concerning my age due to the gray hair.
@aesys

I will be 42 this December. Like you, I love color, but don't want to feel dependent on it to be considered beautiful. I started asking the same questions I asked myself when I transitioned to natural. I don't want to be dependent on a chemical to be pretty. Coloring became a chore (every two weeks) and it wasn't as fun and cute as it used to be. I haven't dyed since early 2017/late 2016. In a youth obsessed society it has been a bit challenging; but I know a lot of people who dye their hair and still look their age. I have found some women on social who have embraced their gray hair and they still look youthful. I too worry about dating while gray and a host of other things...mainly tied to how others will view me and ultimately value or not value me based on this aspect of my appearance. Some days are more challenging than others, but I feel mostly comfortable with my decision. My mom was pretty much completely gray in her 40s, so I expect the same. Gray hairs can be snobbish! They refuse to lay down and join the others no matter how much gel I put on them. As they grow longer, they behave a tad better. :) My goal is healthy hair. I had a lot of hair fall out starting about about 3 years ago and I think that it was a combination of stress, a bad salon dye job, and possible thyroid issues. As my hair and body continue to heal most of the hair that has grown back has been gray, but I am thankful it is growing back. Best of luck as you journey through the rest of 2018 and decide what is best for you!

Do what works for you 😊! I'm 50+ and I'm still trying to decide if I want to stop dying my hair 😆! We all try so hard to look young and vibrant that it's hard to go with the grey. My grey hair is more wiry, less manageable, and seems to be low porosity, whereas the rest of my hair is normal porosity. Additionally, my grey strands in the crown area don't have much of a curl pattern, which makes a wash and go challenging. But hey, what's a natural hair journey without challenges?!? 😆🤣😂😭

I would love to dye my hair, but my hair just doesn't do well with it. So, I have to work with what I have. My hair was graying similarly to yours, mostly in the center. My hair is thinner and dryer in the top. However, I switched to a new hair care routine and it seems to be working. But guess what?!?! All of my new hair is coming in gray! The thinness is filling in but it's filling in gray, so I have a definite gray patch going on now. I've decided to go with it! I get lots of compliments and men are just as flirty as always, maybe more. Do whatever makes you feel good, just make sure you own it!

Let the gray hair grow in and see how you like it. If you don't like the way it looks, or if the gray hair is working against you in the relationship (or any) department, you can always dye it again. Personally, and of course I am biased (I'm older and deep into my gray transition), I think it may look beautiful. Check out "Gorgeous in Grey" (Ty Alexander), jjMua Artistry (you may want to add in the words "gray hair" when searching for this particular vlogger), and there's also Rhiannon G. These ladies look beautiful. I do know there are a lot more women in your age group on Instagram. "Greybaelyfe" showcases men and women who are proudly, and fiercely, rocking their gray. Just thought I would share.

You are correct the gray hair are more stubborn than the other textures of your hair they tend to fly away more than anything you could slick everything else down but that gray. I have been transitioning to gray ever since I was 19 and I am salt and pepper now and I am 38 it's a struggle! A good thing I married early but trying to find Styles and everything sucks if you are doing your natural hair the gray hair seems to be more fragile than the rest. If you can come up with some cute hairstyles while you are transitioning to gray I would love to see the videos .

Your hair is beautiful and it's your crown. When I was growing up, I would always wonder why my grandmother dyed her hair until I was in my early twenties when she stopped doing it. She had a head full of beautiful silky silver natural hair. Unfortunately, my gray hair is not as silky as hers was. I notice mine is a little tighter than the rest of my curls and they are at my edges, more on the right than the left.

It a different set of rules when it comes to the sexes. Men find women desirable and they are visual. I'm past 60 and most of gray hair is around the edges. Because most of your gray is in the middle, you can move your part to a different area and you 'll be good to go. I'm seriously considering transitioning as well.

I want to color but front edges show root growth too fast and I dont want the need to color that often. It doesnt bother me much since I mostly where an afro or my headwraps, like in the thumbnail, but I hate it for protective styles where its more noticeable. I really want to where twists, maybe even loc up, but I dont want gray locs either. Chile I'm over it tho, done,😁🤣 every other day theres more of em, 😄!

When I was interested in grabbing a male’s attention, my gray hair was never an issue regardless of my age. For the record, I say “ when I was interested”, only because now I am enjoying being left alone.😉

I love and respect you for all the wonderful work you put in your channel. You are beautiful and will be beautiful with gray hair. However, gray hair does make people appear older than they really are. I think you can have a young face but people will usually guess your age by your hair color and the style.

I love gray hair. I understand at your age feeling that it might age you. I’m 38 and I have no grays but I’m looking forward to it. I think the more women embrace it then we can change what people think about it.

I saw my 1st gray hair when I was in middle school. I turned 40 this year and all of my gray is a patch right in the front of my head. I've tried to embrace it (last color Jan 2018) but I just don't like it and yes, my gray hairs are a more coarse texture than the rest of my hair. I think most of us have more than one texture in our heads and the front of my hair has always been mostly frizzy while I have coils and curls everywhere on my head, the grays just make some styles a little tricky. I just had a conversation with my daughter who is also my stylist about what color to try next. Good luck to you!

I love my grey hair but, there is a stigma about them in reference to women. I have done color rinses to cover them but since transitioning to natural, no rinses or dyes (since 2012). My dating life includes both younger and older men. I am now 50 yrs old. Age 30 is when my grey hairs began to say hello. They stick out and say hi within every hairstyle. I keep aloe gel handy to quickly slick them down.

Your gray hair pattern is very interesting. I'm 38 and I'm starting to see gray strands pop up here and there and I am NOT ready LOL. My daughter laughs at me because I hunt them and pull out each and every one. Maybe next year I'll try to embrace them!

Girl, I had a friend who stood over me one day while I was at my desk and in mid conversation without knowing he pulled a gray hair out of my head. It was so painful that I almost threatened his life if he tried that again lol. They don't hurt when you pull them?
@QiQiRoc
@QiQiRoc 6 лет назад
Oh no he didn't! No, mine don't hurt when I pull them - I try to catch them at the root too. I don't have many, but I'm sure if I keep pulling, they'll grow even more :(
@NaturallyMichy

Either that or you're hair will start thinning in those areas (this isn't a fact). I grew up hearing that too! The more you pull, the faster they grow in.

I'm in my late 40s and I'm starting to get tired of my greys. I basically grey at the roots and mine is mostly concentrated in the center of my head. It's been a gradual process that started in my mid 30s. I'm thinking about dying my hair for my 50s. Has nothing to do w/others...actually it does. I saw a woman who appeared to be about my age with these black 4c twists--no extensions and it has me thinking about returning to all dark hair just for a little while since it's been 15 years...

Yes, the gray hair is a lot more stubborn. I am in my late forties, I am still not ready for the gray! I have been using garlic and onion juice on my hair to help with the gray. The sistah who has the green beauty Channel on yt did a series of videos on this. You should check it out.

I think grey hair is beautiful! I'm over 40 & wish my hair would grey evenly all over or even in one significant patch. I only sprout a single grey strand in each quadrant of my head (one over each ear, one in my widow's peak & one at the back of my head. 😑

I am between 60 and 70 years old. I put a semi rinse in my hair twice a year. Sometimes once a year. When the greys shows I used roux tween time instant root concealer it looks lk lipstick from Sallys. I wear my hair as an afro. I do not mind the grey shows in the back of my hair. I am not ready for grey hair. My mom had grey hair. It did not lk good at all. Maybe one day but I am not ready for that grey hair

I can imagine how your hair would look full grey it would be beautiful but I totally understand how you feel about looking older than you would like. My sister greyed prematurely my bff did in high school..Im in my 40's and I am just now seeing 1 or 2 here and there but the funny part is my grandmother had no greys and she didn't dye her hair until the day she died...I thought I was taking after her but I guess not LMAO

That's so true! I remember finding gray in middle school! It wasn't too bad and I could just tweeze it out. But I'll be 30 in December and they are here to stay! Mine are also in the front of my hair. Thinking of coloring my hair but the commitment to maintain color? Not sure if it'll be worth it in the end. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 😩

I think I see your dilemma, your grays have not grown to the length of the rest of your hair yet. But once it grows on in you may be able to accept it better. I think you look as beautiful as you always have and the gray won't change that. Besides you got young women going to the salon getting their hair dyed gray now. Nor do I think going gray will deter any man from wanting to date you. You have natural hair and you can still make it look just as funky and fly as you want. So if he's mature he'll be looking at not just the outside but more importantly what's on the inside, your heart, personality, goals ect.... Now as for me I'm going to be honest, I'm kinda not ready yet. But I think it's because I look younger than I am(just turned 48😜) and I have strands coming in on the sides. Now don't yall judge me but since it's only a few strands on each side(about 2-3, for now) then I cut them as close to the scalp as I can. Just until enough grow in to look like streaks. But I'll accept it when it comes just as my husband has, AND HE HAS A LOOOOOT OF GRAY!!!😂😂😂

Millicent Swift I think you should do what's best for you, simply because you're with yourself at all times. Our happiness is built on how we honestly feel about ourselves. I'm not ready for my gray either. Because I have a lot of hair, I dye it occasionally when I feel up to it. When I had a brush cut I dyed it all the time because it was much easier... however, I dye it based on how I think it looks on me, and not what others think.... hope this was helpful love... whatever choice you make, you are beautiful....
