Seeing that you could remove that support section of the cross member made me jelly. I have a little 2.4, 2 wheel drive Tacoma. The Cross Member is one solid piece. So when I did my clutch job, the transmission had to me finagled all the way past the Cross Member. But to make it even worse. It did not just go straight back. Because the Bell Housing is so much wider and taller than the actual transmission, while it was being removed, it had to be rotated about 90 degrees. All because the 2 wheel drive models have a solid Cross Member. Awesome video though. Good job.

@@KFloTacoma I just finished up my clutch job on my 05 Taco. Last week I was wondering why you didn't separate the transmission from the transfer case. I pulled mine by myself laying on the ground and I wouldn't have been able to handle getting it out in one piece. However when I went to reassemble I realized there is no way to rotate the shaft to get the splines to line up with the clutch plate if they are not joined , hence the shop manuals directions to leave joined. So I bolted them back together , and took a couple of ratchet straps mounted to the frame and cradling the tranny/transfer case and raised it into position ( when bolted together no way one guy can muscle it into place with out chance of injury) I have done clutches on dozens of various 4 wheel drive trucks and have never seen one where they had to be bolted together first..

They should be at that point. You can call the techs and ask. If you wanted to to check, you can open the fill plug and stick your finger in the fill port to dip into the transmission oil.

@mxsyko4
@mxsyko4 4 года назад
First thank you for posting thing information. I was wondering if you had the throw out bearing and related issues that Toyota engineered wrong on the 6 speed manuals? If so did you find a solution? Apparently the throw out bearing is made of steel and the pilot shaft is aluminium. When the bearing slides on the shaft it eats the aluminum shaft away and make the bearing constantly chirp. I got this issue at 30,000 miles and Toyota pretty much told me to go fly a kite. I know its a known issue for the early 6 speed manual transmissions but haven't heard of a good solution to fix it. Thanks again for posting this video.
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 года назад
Dan, that's a very good question. I did notice that there was a very minor wear on the pilot shaft and thought nothing further of it until after I assembled the whole thing. Later on, i did find out that this was an issue and found a product that supposedly fixes it. It's basically a SS sleeve that goes over the shaft paired with an oversized TOB. Here's the website for you to check out: www.urdusa.com/throwout-bearing-upgraderepair-kit-2005-tacoma-v6-6-speed/

Don’t you have to seal the transmission in some sort of way putting it back over the clutch?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 года назад
The clutch is an open system. Theres a vent on the bottom (if you remeber the little plastic cover at the bottom) and there is an open vent by the clutch release piston. This allows all the clutch dust to be vented out. So sealing the bell housing is a moot point. Additionally, the shop manual does not call out for any type of sealant to be applied.

Do you have engine jacked up or supported?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 3 года назад
I did but that became a moot point. The center of gravity was on the motor mounts and the jacks got in the way when trying to lower the transmission. When the transmission came off, the motor stood up straight and off the jacks anyway, so those motor mounts held them real tight. I discovered at the reinstallation that the motor mounts was plenty strong to keep the motor from rotating in the pitch direction.
