@@TalkingCars What support? No one is blindly supporting you just like that. Everyone including me watch your video due to the quality of the content Keep it up guys!
I thought DCT was supposed to be the best. Thanks for the detailed info and clearing myths. You two deserve much more recognition and I am sure you will reach there.
I have seen many people explaining about these transmissions , but you guys just nailed it. Passion added with immense knowledge in the field is truly epic!.
I know about various types of automatic transmissions but watching it just because of you guys 💯 Everytime I watch your videos, I learn something new ✌
Well, I have seen videos on transmission by almost all journalists in India..but nothing comes this close. Great video team.. This is a must watch - closer to reality - fuller explanation..
You guys are truly amazing. Your videos are fantastic. At the end of the video, you ask if anyone has watched all the way though. In fact it's the reverse happening. We never realise that we have spent this much time watching the video. It's absolutely brilliant. I'm more of a generic car user than an automotive enthusiast. I have researched for the automatic gearboxes some time back. This is one of the best realtime informative videos I've ever seen on automatic gearboxes.
Unexpected✌✌. Most usefull video you have ever made. Orupad complicated akathe explain cheythu. Really informative🤓🤓🤓 Expecting more informative videos like this.Vandikalile inganathe technologies explain cheyyunna videos iniyum venam. ⚡🌝 superb work guys.
Guys -what you talk is pure brilliance and we wish that other Indians are also able to watch it. “Sharing is always caring” and hence requesting you again to please have English subtitles. THANK YOU for everything you do. Best, Anoop Kumarakom/Cayman Islands

Don't worry buddies. Even if your video length is 1 hour it is very informative. Happy atlast we malayalees got a true motor vehicle review channel run by very knowledgeable people. Keep it up. Do what you know very well, success will come automatically :)
Very good summarisation guys. Small correction @23:40. There is no technical need to switch from D to N for DSG when you are stopped in traffic. You can be on the brakes, but ensure sufficient brake force on the pedals. The transmission is smart that it wil internally shift to N. Problem is when you apply barely enough pressure on the brake pedal, which confuses the car into thinking you are trying to creep in traffic. If you always had to switch to N in traffic stops then 'Brake Hold' function won't be possible in DSGs, which is not true. Creep of a DSG is indeed via clutch slip like a Manual or AMT and therefore inherently not as good as CVT/TC boxes, but always shifting into N is overkill.
@@ambooken I am not very familiar with the Ford's compact dry clutch unit. I have driven it and felt shift logics/speeds are not as refined as the dry clutch unit of VAG. It's a transmission that sold in very little numbers in India.
I don't usually comment on videos but I was forced to support you because of your doubt on how people would take this topic. I usually fast forward most videos but was sort of glued to the video that I watched full. It's really relevant information. Thank you and keep doing good videos like this.
Good going guys! Enjoyed this conversation as well. Please do an episode on ‘engine braking in manual transmissions’. I find it weird that many motorists still do not know and use this good driving technique. Even cab drivers who drive for a living do not use it. Also it will be helpful if you guys can tell us how the automatics fare in the engine braking department.
I think cab drivers would seldom use it even if they knew. Because their priority is fuel efficiency. They would rather put in neutral and burn out brake pads than engine brake. Seen so many drivers do the same thing!
@@lost.in.thought_s Very true! People also do not realise that effective engine braking can reduce the jerkiness and unwanted movements thus reducing fatigue and road sickness too..!
Uff. These guys are gold. Ultimate authorities in their field backed with experience and knowledge. Counter and movie trolls ! "Allengil nee enthu kodutha medikkaru, pashooneyo?" Verum thug!
Few things to add on from my limited experience. Other than AMT and IMT driven cars with all other Transmissions. Since we discussed about different transmissions let me talk about transmission manufactures. Their are two dominant trans-manufactures in the current automobile industry now. 1) Aisin Transmission one which owned by Toyota . I personally driven their 4speed, 5 , 6 , 8 transmissions (all torque converters) ,CVT and owns a Toyota Yaris as second car which has 4 speed torque converter. All of those unit do decent job, 8 speed torque converter do lot of gear hunting in the city but does the job well on the highway( have to take into consideration as some one living IN overseas speed limit is 110km here). I personally prefer 6 speed trans torque converter. Aisin 8 is wide used in different manufactures and very well accepted among customers. 2) ZF Transmission Widely used in BMW and others including the 8 speed in MG Hector sold in India (known as LDV D 90 here). They make 8 speed ,9 and 10 these days. Honda one of the dominant users of ZF (uses both 9 and 10 speed in their line up in the states and other parts of the world. not sure about what trans Honda uses in India). I personally wont rate their Torque converter as great as Aisin (again its something personal), even though they do a decent job. Rest of the transmission are pretty much self made by manufactures (sometimes it can be a sister company like Nissan using CVT made Jatco Trans in most of their products but 2021 Pathfinder came out with 9 speed Torque converter again not sure about the transmission manufacture). Nissan CVT had lot of issues in the past Hyundai KIA and their Luxury brand Genesis uses in-house transmissions. Had 6 speed Torque converter before but now 8 speed ,CVT, 7DCT, and the very latest 8DCT with wet clutch. If I have to hate a transmission it would be VW DSG(DCT) comes in 6DSG, old 7DSG and the very latest 8DSG came out the 2021 Golf. They use Aisin 8 speed in their high end products like VW Atlas, Toureg and other Audi, Porche sister brands. I have no idea who manufactures 7 speed torque converter available in Polo in India. VW DSG is very engaging to drive but not reliable at all. If i have to pick a CVT it would be Subaru Lineartronic CVT. Mazda only do one transmission in their entire line up, 6speed torque converter. if I have to pick up a transmission it would be this one. These review is based on my past years living aboard and driving different brand in two different continents. More than happy to help anyone with a question
@@TalkingCars You guys do a brilliant job, not often RU-vidrs talk about DSG. Forgot to mention about Ford 10 Speed, It does lot of gear jumping or hunting, meaning you never going to use all gears. It’s a co development from Ford and GM. Anyway not the one for me.
@@JJ-tn3zd Great post. How about modern Nissan CVT gearbox in Indian Magnite/Reno Kiger? With Nissan CVT track record in past many remark, it's unreliable and might turn headache long term.. Any thoughts?
You guys are amazing...thanks for putting efforts for educating the people who were no knowledge about automobile terms and technologies....am working in automobile service industrie for last 15 years ...in my opinion the best automatic transmission is torque converter and it is more reliable than any others...am using Maruti Astar automatic which is torque converter and covered 180000 km ...still no issues for the transmission and engine....only periodic service and suspension works done
Usually cable type shifting in manual cars I think it's most common in Fwd cars not in rwd, in rwd like jeeps TAVERA and innova etc it's just below the manual gear lever the transmission is located and that's the reason why such vehicles gear lever vibrates
Commenting probably for the first time on a youtube video... Just because you asked.. but also because I watched it till the end (like most of your other videos). Keep it coming

This is the most informative and well explained video about various transmissions on youtube. Both the host are well in sync with each other during the conversation. Awesome!
I am a huge fan of DCT(DSG), Last week I've driven KIA Seltos IVT in manual mode it changed my perspective of IVT. Heavy performance like a manual transmission car or a DCT. I haven't noticed the rubberband effect or lag in manual mode but in automatic mode. So you guys please experience the car and gimme a feedback. 😇
Nice video. Got clear idea about various transmissions. Based on my experience of driving 15 years manual, then 6 months wagner AMT, then 1 year urban cruiser torque converter, then moved to usa and used nissan altima cvt for a year then finally now driving Hyundai tucson. I feel like tucson is fun to drive and loved it in test drive but i was not knowing its transmission. Later came to know its DCT. In slow moving traffic we can put into manual mode so no jerking. Oversll i feel DCT is fun to drive( not considered mileage or durability i don’t know) 😅
Sathyam paranja so much interesting content aayirunuu..ingane irunnu samsarikkan ulla company eniku illa..so ningade videos kanumbo oru feel thanne anuu...thank you guys...
There are so many videos put out by Indian auto channels explaining transmissions, especially after Hyundai launched iMT, but nothing comes close to your detailed and well-rounded explanation 🙌🏾
Most awaited content..do things like this with such informative contents with demo. This is talking cars...copy cats to follow..some threads that are expected.. turbo... i-turbo...dual turbo.., awd...4wd, locks..low range...hub drive.. suspension..thanks for the effort.
