I am from Moldova I think I want to mention one very important thing. For everybody who frames this as an ethnic conflict that's barking up the wrong tree. We've lived together for centuries and we've never bickered we've always visited we have family in each other's countries there was never an ethnic tension or ethnic hate. This is a politically motivated conflict that was dictated and directed from Moscow. This conflict was imposed on us by Kremlin. And then Frozen also buy them.

Some time ago, at a conference, the Romanian president at the time, Traian Basescu, was asked by a Russian dignitary: we hear that Romania has plan to annex Moldova, what do you have to say about that. Basescu waddled over to the microphone, with a sh...cheese eating grin, from ear to ear, and says: I'd like the Russian dignitary to write this down: Romania, unlike Russia, has no experience in annexing other states....*mic drop*

There is no experience of annexation by Romania of other states, but parts of states. The Hungarians, for example, felt it for themselves) This can be seen by comparing the borders of Romania before and after the First World War. Accession of Transylvania (Trianon Peace Treaty), Southern Dobruja (following the results of the Second Balkan War), annexation of Bessarabia (in 1918 from the Russian Empire - an ally of Romania in WW1, at the time of its collapse). Oh yes, this is a poor and unfortunate country that has been under the yoke of Russia since the emergence of the Romanian principality during the Russian-Turkish wars. And in WW2, some Romanian soldiers were forced to commit atrocities in the territories of the USSR. And at the end of World War II, the damned soviets returned only Transylvania to Romania. And yes, Romania does not want to annex Moldova, these are just fairy tales of a Russian dignitary

As a citizen of the country you are making a video about, I would like to make few comments: - First. In the cases of serial killers, in order to identify other victims, you use the patterns to the murders you know it was commited to other in unresolved murders in the past, thus, linking those two. So, in the case of Russia, by applying the cases of Georgia and Ukraine to the case of Moldova, you can see a lot of similar patterns that were used in Moldova's case. I am talking about using some local dispute in order to punish the leadership of the country for their strategic decision. You have the same elements - mercenaries fighting for the separatists, russian proxies, armed "polite men" using babushkas as human shields and so on. - The constitution of Moldova in 1994 and still states that Moldova is a unitary country. For Gagauzia they offered a special autonomy. For Transnistria they offered few deals with different degrees of autonomy. By the time passing it became profitable for everyone the status quo. - the ones who ruled Tiraspol because they have their own gray area for shady business, the ones in Chișinău because they can offer a gateway for the shady business from Tiraspol, the ones in Kiev for the same reason as the ones in Chisinau. Profitable was also for Odessa, for obvious reasons. And off course a small degree of profit went to the community of international mediators that express concern untill the shit hits the fan and have to deliver weapons. I am talking about those that dream of putting in their CV „a dossier that is solved”, meanwhile, the way it is solved give you the worst possible outcome. - Moldova is not a model for frozen conflicts. The whole security situation in the moment is stable because the CEO of Sheriff company, the backbone of the separatist economy, have economical and corrupt interest in Ukraine and the West. At the moment, the current elite is in conflict with radical pro-russian, that does not understand why they are not fighting Ukrainians yet. They are not fighting Ukrainians because it is bad for business. However, I dont know how stable is this „architecture of security” for local businessman given the high fatality rate of pro Kremlin business-people as of lately. Bottom-line - the only reason for Transnistria to exist is just the corruption and contraband that was done for 30 years. FYI - close to 90% if not more, of the citizen living in Transnistria have Moldovan documents issued by authorities in Chisinau. They can move anywhere in Moldova, vote in the elections and be elected in the Parliament. There is no division among political lines (the region, politically and ideologically is no different than Balti or Comrat). There is no religious divide. In terms of ethnicity - the vast majority of the population in Transnistria are the same as in the rest of the country. So, why this problem exist? It is not because of a frozen conflict, but because it is profitable for everyone.

Ukraine doesn't like separatists and they hate Russians even more, especially those who are very close to Odessa. So, Ukraine would likely be willing to kill the 1,500 Russian troops that Putin put in Transnistria. Would the government of Moldova allow Ukrainian forces to do that?

Thank you, Ștefan. I actually scrolled into the comment section to leave a message along the same lines. There is no serious history of violence among the local diasporas of various kinds - the politicians really tried to push the language/cultural division rhetoric, which took off pretty well for a while, but would never stick in a country that has been at crossroads of many nations for many centuries. And yes, if Transnistrian top had any financial interest in war, it would’ve happened by now. Nobody there is willing to let go of their warm spot, because Putin and his gang can’t “handle” their “special operation” the same way they did previously.

Right now it is just some little foible of Putin's, using only the professional part of the army. The Conscripts that are called up every 6 months for a 1 year military term are not, by law, allowed to participate. There is no martial law in Russia, and the civilians don't have to worry about being drafted en masse tomorrow. The moment Putin calls it a "war", all that changes. And he seems to be of the opinion that the locals might turn restless, and perhaps he is even concerned the rest of the world might also get restless, though that probably isn't a consideration, because it has never happened before in the whole history of Soviet/Russian occupation of other countries.

@@andreidiaconu8530 I mean, that's not a call for me to make, that's a call for the Moldovans to make. If they say they're not Romanian, then that's that
@andreidiaconu8530
@andreidiaconu8530 2 года назад
@@samwill7259 well, if they consider moldovans and non-romanians at the same time, they are not moldovans, but rather, they have a distorted vision of what it means to be a moldovan. The majority of modavians from the old principality of Moldavia already live in Moldovan region from Romania, and they consider themselves Romanians. What is beyond Romanian borders is Soviet scap, anyway,. People there have been stripped of their identity for 200 years, so for them to come to us and tell us what it means to be a moldavian, it's kind of hypocritical. All the Moldavian history resides in today's Romania. Even Stefan the Great was born here, he ruled here and is buried here. Republic of Moldova has no history on it's own, that is the Romanians' history. Only from 1812(Russian Empire annexation) you can say that they have their own history, but I don't see how you can be proud with only 200 years of history, period in which they were under total domination of the Russian empire, and then USSR.

It was a really confusing and rather dangerous time for western politics and diplomacy. The threat of nuclear capabilities spreading out resulted in western countries basically allowing and even supporting Russia to take any action they felt necessary.

Aren't the consequences amazing? 200 000 casualties in the Ukrainian war so far and counting, the greatest refugee crisis, economic crisis and who knows what will follow... But at least, Ahmed did not get nuclear weapons, we only have Vova threatening everyone with nuclear annihilation. Wasn't the Western diplomacy brilliant? It's not that difficult to admit when you have made a mistake... Or a hundred.

There seems to have been (possibly ongoing still) multiple attacks including on infrastructure, along the lines of this division. Most likely Russian military or Russian separatist forces I assume, covertly trying to instigate a revival of hot conflict, to destabilize the area and "justify" sending more Russian forces there to cut off the border with Ukraine. Moldovan and Transnistrian officials have both been quick to report they neither have nor want anything to do with it, they seek no conflict, and queries down the official ranks and local known militias have all turned up empty.
