This is the view from the cab of a Transperth A series railcar, running a Perth to Victoria Park station shuttle and return, x2. The intermediate stations are only annotated on the first run.
Perth is proactive, not waiting until it's too late, but instead building out aggressively. I look forward to videos when the current construction projects are completed. Perth also does a good job staying ahead of the graffiti. I live in a US city of about the same population with ZERO rail transport. No urban transit, no intercity, Nada.
Thanks for watching! Yes, it's a very good initiative by this current state government to make such a large investment in urban rail. It will keep Perth 'livable' for years to come.
What is disturbing is this short SIX km line has a 7min service between trains all the time apart from very early and late mon-sun, before all this railwork only the Thornlie train stopped at Burswood & Vic Park logically you'd FORGET the Armidale times, run only Thornlie times then both in peak times
Transperth doesn't use the AWS system. It uses an ATP system using transponders. Look in the four foot just before the signals. You should be able to see two grey plates on the sleepers. It's a European based system, I believe. I forget the name of it.
Yes, there is new track being built. It is for railcar storage in anticipation of direct trains to Mandurah from the Stadium, via the new Thornlie - Cockburn link.
I love how it perfectly alternates between platform 4/5 at Perth and platform 1/2 at Victoria Park. Does a train leaving platform 4 always go to platform 2 at Victoria Park and leaving 5 always to 1 or not?
this is both the Armidale and Thornlie/Cockburn lines, and due to the rail works they have gone with keeping the principle "15"min between trains on EACH line despite only running this part, making it 7mins between trains on this section, this ends up they needing "FIVE" trains to fulfil the timetable requirements, this results in all 5 trains visiting both 4/5 in Perth and 1/2 in vic park over the day (side note Armidale trains normally do not stop at Burswood & vic park)
