3 vital tips here for home training from world champion clay pigeon shooter Ben Husthwaite. I’ll try and help out during these times of isolation and get the shooting public through with some home help !
Ben … D.Brown from the US here. I’m 71 and just started serious Clay Sports Shotgunning about 6 yrs. ago, after retirement. (DTL Trap, Skeet, and 5-Stand) All my previous shooting was target and tactical. Because I’m a bit late-to-the-game and way behind the learning curve, I’ve had to do a lot of catching up … knowledge wise. When I encountered all the traditional orthodoxy of “Thou shalt’s” and “Thou shalt not’s” … I said to myself that I don’t have the luxury of youth and time to follow just any advice … no matter how sacred the cow. Your ingenuity, fierce independence of POV, creative approaches, and willingness to “call it as you see it” … makes you special among the top tier shooters and instructors. A breath of fresh air. A man to listen to (and a force not to be reckoned with 👍). Your rascally attitude of, “Oh yeah. Says who. Not by me, mate !” … keeps you open, always learning, and non-partisan. Love these three training exercises (and all your material). As to the “haters” … f’em. Life’s too short and you’ve got so much skill, experience, and accomplishment to offer, that we can just let the losers lie. Good on ya. Keep ‘em coming. With respect. D.Brown Seattle, WA USA
Hi Ben. Just watched the video and may I say your drill with the two golf balls, one black and one orange is a game changer for me. Everyone apart from yourself keep saying look at the clay, look at the clay, but not one of them mention you have to be aware of where the barrel is, so thanks for that and I thought it was just me…😬 Cheers..🙂👍
Many thanks Ben. As a novice (albeit older) shooter I have found your videos informative, entertaining and very inspiring. I suspect these bullies won’t met you face to face tough. Please keep up the good work. And stay safe!
Ben, I watched this when you first posted it. I am back to it about 5 months or so later. Still excellent. For your grid drill kinda hard to do that at a ground by myself. I use 5Stand/ SportTrap and shot same target from each station
Ben, you don't have to do this, but you do, and we sporting clay shooters really appreciate your contributions to the game. Do you have a video that's an upgrade of your Method Star that's available for sale. I've had lessons from several pro shooters in the US and you have exceeded them as an instructor and really, it's not even close......thanks again for your efforts.
Ben, recently came across your videos and now subscribe! The lessons you're sharing are fantastic, not only giving folk something to do in these times but also sincere support for all viewers. Please keep it up, stay safe, I'm off to binge some more vids thanks!
Great video Ben, this is something I used to do, but now I don't. Watching the video has made me think about this and it is something I am going to do again. Keep the videos coming and look after yourself.
Top class videos, Ben. Learning more and more every day by watching your videos! Keep them coming. Can't wait to put it into practice when lockdown ends.
Greetings from Greece Ben. Now that we are all in quarantine its time to practice at home using your instructions. Thank you for your fantastic videos and i hope to accomplish some of your instructions at the range at the future.
Just started following your instruction videos, well I’m hooked mate as you give solid logic in a concise way and your pupils are pure proof of that. Keep them coming and one day I’ll try to get a lesson with you 👍👍
Going to take the BH journey during lockdown, I'm a novice c class so hopefully will see an improvement when we're finally allowed out.. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge, stay safe
Very interesting mate the only coulerd balls I have used in the past were after I stood on a rake but will give your tip a go makes perfect sense to me
I appreciate your videos and your willingness to help others. I am only a guy who lives to pheasant hunt and hates to ever miss a flushing bird......my goal is to be 95% of birds in the bag/freezer. I am close but wantvto be better.
Thank you Ben from Australia by watching and practicing your procedures over the last couple of months , I have gone from a dodgy C class shooter to knocking on the door of B class. One of the issues I have is I only have one eye lucky it is my right eye as I’m a right hand shooter. Funnily the shot I can have issues with is the straight away and the Crow which goes straight up and coming into you , any tips would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Wayne and keep the videos coming
A very big fan of your video's Ben, I watch every one, is it possible to show us all how you balance a gun to an individual shooter? keep up the great work in these difficult times, and thanks for all your hard work.
Hi Ben, my son (21yrs.old ) is a Shotgun Trap shooter. He used to compete in Shotgun Double Trap earlier and has represented India in International events for good 3 years but unfortunately DT was dropped from the Olympics and he had to switch to a different discipline which is Olympic Shotgun Trap. Since last one year he has been shooting Olympic Trap. I am looking for a good coach for him. I wanted to know if you have coached any high level players in this discipline ? If yes, I would like to get more details please. Thanking you in advance.
Is it best to start close, with the black one roughly barrel length in front of you and the orange one a few inches beyond that or should orange be feet away?
Hi Ben. Thanks for the videos. The golf ball exercises is new to me but it looks like a good one. I wanted to ask you about not looking at the barrel. I've always been told by coaches and more experienced shooters to never look at the bead. Gil Ash who is a World renowned shotgun instructor teaches to maintain about 95% of your focus on the clay and 5% on your barrel, basically just enough to notice the barrel in your peripheral vision. I've never felt comfortable with the concept of not looking down the barrel but didn't want to go against the advice of more experienced shooters. One day on the range when I was relatively new to sporting clays I was absolutely crushing target after target. Then my bead fell off and I continued shooting missing nearly all the targets thereafter. Ever since this experience I've been very skeptical about not looking at the bead. Could you please explain why you advocate looking at the barrel? I would like to get your perspective as a top notch shotgun shooter.
PCpolice Liveleak Gil ash is useless he’s a media man with zero clue of winning with a shotgun. All top shooters talk of barrel awareness and do it why listen to someone who can’t shoot ?
