Breakdown: The video starts with tyler waking up after what we assume was another attempt at escape from the nico (the dude on the horse) this a repeating theme in their music videos because nico represents insecurities, hate, dark thoughts, etc. So tyler starts walking out of the canyon (which represents the dark places of our minds) with lots of people watching him. This shows how we feel alone and are sometimes the only ones who can bring ourselves out of this dark place, leaving family and friends to only watch and hope, but tyler trips and falls (shows we're all human and we make mistakes). He wakes up again ready to try again but nico (the doubt and fear) has caught up to him, he is entranced and stands frozen as nico rubs the black ink on his neck (something that tyler wore during their last album which was the foundation for this album's story). So he is trapped by nico again frozen in fear, but his family and friends throw yellow flowers down on them which represents how strong the love of those around you is. It breaks Tyler out of the trance and scares nico's horse long enough for Tyler to run. We hear him say "i'll be right there but you'll have to grab my throat and lift me in the air" this is him speaking to nico/his fears/dark part of himself that he will resist, he won't go easily, he will choose hope. Tyler screams and in the climax of the music sprints away from nico. He falls again however and nico drags him away, but this time as he lays there he is holding a flower, a glimmer of hope that if he escaped from the trance once then he can do it again. This ending then ties into "nico and the niners" where we see that he has a flower in the beginning as he plans to escape the city that nico trapped him in.

The person on the horse is a bishop from the fictional city of Dema (the person is likely Nico). They were chasing tyler to make sure he doesn't escape.

I believe there was actually some artistic liberty taken with the trio of videos that you could watch it technically in any order and the story will make sense because the message is that it’s a never ending battle

HeavyDirtySoul isn't exactly important to the trilogy. It's a good extra, but it is an extra. I think the more important thing for this video is the context of the 1 year hiatus.
The jumpsuit he keeps referencing can mean multiple things depending on how you interpret it. The metaphor can be his creative process, but how I interpret it is his Christian faith. Both of the members are Christians and the jumpsuit covering him is his faith in God protecting him from all of the dark thoughts that Nico (the guy on the horse) throws at him. "Pressures of a new place roll my way, jumpsuit jumpsuit cover me"
Oh well I saw it as a inhibitor and using the jumpsuit (religion) to blindly follow and justify unjust orders but then he said nah I ain't no puppet and I shouldn't sacrifice my atonomy for it.
Tyler (singer) was entranced by Nico (dude on the horse, part of DEMA (the cult location that tyler's trapped in)) when he rubbed the black paint on him. it refers to Blurryface, the way you get sucked into dark places by your insecurities. Tyler was blindly following Nico back to DEMA when the Banditos (Josh (drummer) and other abolitionists who are fighting against DEMA to free Tyler and its other captives) started raining down yellow flower petals. Yellow = Banditos, the flowers are seen in another Trench video. Nico, along with his horse, were caught off-guard by the signals of freedom and lost his focus, which snapped Tyler out of his trance and gave him a chance to run. all of the Trench music videos (along with the Blurryface album's Heavydirtysoul) tie together as a story, but it's understandable if you don't wanna sit & dissect them the way we've been doing for the past few years lmao. there's nothing wrong with just vibing
So the yellow in the video represents friendship and how the friendship of Josh the drummer and Tyler’s wife Jenna can Tyler out of his depression aka Nico. Both Jenna and Josh are in the video as one of the people on the cliffs sprinkling the yellow flower petals. I just love how open Tyler and Josh are when it comes to their mental health because there are people that battle with depression. Use your friends as a yellow jumpsuit!

Ok ,so heavydirtysoul is the prequel to a big storyline. In this video blurryface aka Nico (main bad character/Tyler's alter-ego) is driving Tyler to Dema (city with prison in TOP universe) while repeatedly trying to kill Josh (drummer/ Ty closest friend) who is trying to stop him. At the last minute Tyler takes control again and saves Josh. Now some people believe the car also represents the whole blurryface album and it blows up at the end to symbolize the end of the era and beginning of Trench era. The order of storyline is: • heavydirtysoul • jumpsuit • nico and the niners (+ heathens) • levitate. So in this video Ty tried to escape from Nico, but was eventually caught. This neck paint represent his control under Ty (when his neck and hands are black) , yellow colour - symbol of fighting and escaping from this control ,in moment with flowers ("banditos" trying to help Ty) - horse are getting lost for a second , and it helps Ty to run, but Nico catch him and took him back to Dema, where bishops keep all the "banditos" in custody. So next reaction logically - Nico and the niners
His Jumpsuit is like a safety blanket. In simple terms, the guy on the horse is Nico, who represents his bad thoughts. He drags Tyler back to bad places and Tyler is almost frozen and struggles to resist him. All the people above are friends, family, fans, his support system. They throw down the yellow petals representing hope, giving Tyler the strength to run from Nico. Also the beat rocks HARD haha xx
A potential interpretation for the Jumpsuit is the Holy Spirit, as Tyler calls for the Spirit's presence to "cover" him through the various struggles he's going through (in particular issues related to mental illness).
Fun fact: the ending beat or noises from “Jumpsuit” lead right into “Levitate” if you play “levitate” right after “jumpsuit” you’ll notice that the beat doesn’t change from the end of “jumpsuit” and the start of “levitate” (both songs are from TØP)
React to Nico and the niners next :) Helpful info so you know what's going on: The guy on the horse(Nico) is going to take him to a place called Dema which is ruled by 9 evil bishops. Dema represents a dark place for Tyler and he tries multiple times to escape it. He needs his support system (banditos) to help him escape it. Even though he escapes it, he comes back which makes it sort of a cycle. Basically, dealing with anxiety and depression is a war and you must keep fighting.
I don't know if someone has already said this but the scene with the car is taking place right after the music video in heavydirtysoul, as the car is the one Keons (the bishop of death, and his name comes from the lyric "I hope they cho*KE ON S*moke" which was sung in HDS. Also to clear up on the bishop part, Nico [AKA Blurryface] and the Niners are the bishops, and Keons is just one of them.) drove Tyler in, which was the same one that was lit on fire. At the end of the video, you can see Tyler taking a jumpsuit out of the trunk of the car, and walking off with it. He was presumably walking east, as the lyric "East is up" from the Nico and the Niners song, is talking about how Dema (the place where the bishops reside) is west, and to get away from Dema, he must travel east to a place of mental stability. Sorry for the amount of incoherence, the story of Trench and Blurryface is really intertwined and confusing.
The thing you need to know about twenty one pilots as you continue to listen to their music is all of their lyrics and videos are metephorical. You’ll have to listen to many of their songs multiple times to draw what that song means to you out of it. Most of their songs touch on the subject of mental health, suicide, & religion. Their past two albums “Blurryface” and “trench” are both concept albums that follow a story of characters. Both albums are intertwined to a degree. But it does take extra research outside of the musical experience to understand the story the characters and the meaning behind each song. This is what makes twenty one pilots so unique and continues to keep its fans learning knew things about them constantly. It’s a band that makes you think and ask yourself difficult questions about things you rarely think of.
In the song Save Tyler writes “I can’t believe, that all you see, is that you have covered me gracefully” So I believe he is referring to the blood of Christ or his faith in Christ! But of course it’s layered so it applies to many different things! What a genius!!!!!!
The car is the car from the Heavy Dirty Soul video. Need to think of the this album, Trench, as part 2 of a trilogy. Blurryface album is Part 1. The man on the horse is Blurryface.

Heavydirtysoul was the last video released before they took a hiatus for a year, and this one is the first after. When I first saw it I loved the continuity of the burning car and at the end when he puts on the jacket with the yellow stripes: it’s the end of the Blurryface era (marked by the color red) and the beginning of the Trench era (marked by yellow). Blurryface kind of represented all of Tyler’s insecurities, like when he feels anxiety, it feels like it is choking him (the black makeup on his neck) and now with the yellow (the flowers and the flower petals thrown down) I feel like it’s the color to bring positivity, to kind of drown out the red of Blurryface/anxiety :) it is also why the horseman who’s chasing Tyler wears a red cape
It’s a story so pretty much in Nico and the niners he is leaving dema(which is where he is trapped and it represents his overthinking and bad thoughts) and the dude on the horse is Blurryface and Blurryface represents everything Tyler doesn’t like about himself, in the video he is running away and the dude on the horse is trying to pull him back to dema, and Tyler isn’t having it anymore so when he says jumpsuit cover me he is saying that when he has his jumpsuit on he is a bandito and rebels against his thoughts, when the bishop(dude on the horse) rubbed the black on his neck it goes back to Blurryface to when he put black chalk of paint on his neck and hands cuz that’s what he writes music with and he is insecure about it. And at the end of the video he lost the fight to his insecurities but then in leave the city it says eventually he will leave :)
Personally, I think the Jumpsuit represents antidepressants/treatment for anxiety and depression. In the beginning, Tyler is kinda calm and seems confident that his Jumpsuit will take care of him and protect him from Nico. It takes until his friends and support system (the banditos) make him aware that he is falling back under Nico's spell for him to realize his Jumpsuit may not always be enough to cover him. He follows Nico initially, believing his Jumpsuit is keeping him safe from falling back into a deep depressed/suicidal state, so he doesn't make any changes. When his support system throws the flowers at him, he realizes he is slipping back into his old ways and needs to make a change, running from Nico and pleading with his Jumpsuit to protect him. This would also make sense in Heavydirtysoul, as he is in the car driven by Nico, and not wearing his jumpsuit, meaning he stopped taking his meds/receiving treatment. Once the car is stopped and Nico is gone, he gets back his Jumpsuit and puts it on, knowing it will help him avoid Nico in the future. Also, in Nico and the Niners, he says "my jumpsuit is unsteady", as though the medication isn't always enough to keep the dark thoughts and feelings away, and when he's lower emotionally, he's going lighter on the medication, whereas he's higher emotionally when he's heavy on the treatment. Just my theory, I'm not too deep in the lore of the Blurryface saga but I think this makes sense

This is the first song coming out from their new Era (the yellow one) after staying low for quite some years. That burning car actually came from HeavyDirtySoul, an Era before (the red Era). Before they release this, we fans need to solve a lot of mysteries, questions, code breaking related to DEMA. It's really hard to explain but TOP ain't just a typical band. For good music they offer, we need to pay them with some effort to really get their ideas and the message behind it. I'm into TOP before NF and now you did both, you got my attention and pure respect, sir. Love from Malaysia.

So basically, Tyler is named clancy, and that represents their latest album, and the guy on the horse is Nico, and he represents Tyler's depression and anxiety. The people on the cliff are called banditos, and they represent people who have gone through that, and are trying to help other people going through that. Hope that helps😅
TECHNICALLY the videos go in order back from their blurryface album. Starting with: HeavyDirtySoul Jumpsuit Nico and the Niners Levitate Nico is Blurryface, which if you watch some of the videos from Blurryface, you'll see Tyler's arms, hands and neck are black. Blurryface is basically his depression, anxieties in the form of a person. The people on the cliffs are the banditos which represent the people who are there for him through it. The yellow flowers and petals make him realize what he is doing then he starts running away.

Tyler is very open about the subject of love which I’ll bring back up later. Ow this is just a theory, but this is Tyler talking about falling in love with the wrong person. He is a person who has been hurt in past relationships so he has set these guidelines on his love life that is his (jumpsuit) after his attention was caught by the wrong person he let down his guard. He went against his guidelines because he dropped the entire topic of the song and was more or less showing no resistance and giving in to her wants like a lost puppy. Then he remembers the rules he made and the reasons he made them and reverts back to his jumpsuit of guidelines and leave a relationship he knows is not good for him. That’s one way I think you can interpret it.
Jumpsuit is one of those songs that, at least for me, when I first heard it which was before the album released because it was a single, of course I enjoyed it it was me and awesome. But it hit the back burner for a while with the release of the album. Once I saw them live for the first time and they opened with it it came back to mind, and now, the album is over a year old and that song STILL. FUCKING. SLAPS. It had seriously grown into one of my favorite songs they've ever made. Its like a good hot sauce, it sneaks up on you the father time marches on.

There are three main videos to this story, a couple others work into it, but this is the first main video to this. The next two are Nico and the Niners and then Levitate. Heavydirtysoul works into this as this video starts with where that video ended. The album of Trench is a concept record that tells a story of these people living in a walled up city called Dema run by nine Bishops. Nico is one of the Bishops, he is the one who was riding the horse chasing after Tyler. The people living in Dema believe they are in a safe place and are home, but it's actually that the Bishops have manipulated and brainwashed them into thinking that they are safe while they are actually basically in a prison and they are not safe at all. A few people make it out and over the wall into Trench where Tyler was walking. Trench isn't where they want to be, but the place leading to where they need to go. The people you saw on the cliffs are the ones who have escaped and are trying to save as many people as they can from Dema. The group of people call themselves Banditos and Josh is their leader. They are always wearing the color yellow because the Bishops can't see that color so it's used as a disguise. That was also what the yellow flower petals were for, to show Tyler that he could get out and they were with him while the Bishop couldn't see what was happening. It is supposed to be a metaphor for mental health and the Bishops are supposed to kind of represent what Blurryface was. Blurryface and Trench connect to some degree. That is only a very basic summary of this and more of the story can be seen through the other music videos. The videos don't actually say everything as we have learned that Tyler and Josh have written a 60 page book about all the symbolism and meaning behind everything, but want it all to be up to interpretation so they are telling us none of it. A lot lead up to these videos and the story, too, so there is a lot of digging needed to be done in order to understand the story.
