My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We saw over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

Try a compressor and force air in-between the shaft and the grip. I know it sounds funny, but it works on bike handlebar grips. The wife and I bought a house in Bella Vista I may need your services one day. Have a nice day.

Removing handle: Try blowing air between rubber and tube. Blow from the bottom, and slide it off the top. Run the air around the edge, try to stick the top under the rubber in several spots. Use lube around bottom edge. Also, sticking a small screwdriver under edge can help get air in there.

Here's a tip or trick I learned years ago: If you are new to this type of work, use a camera and take photos as you are tearing down a piece. This will help you put the piece back together properly. Take as many detailed photos as possible. This saves time and frustration putting the machine back together.

It looks like everyone mentioned the air compressor tip. That's actually how I fix the rubber grips on Stihl pole saws as well in my shop. If you stick a thin screwdriver in at the edge, it helps a lot to get the tip of the air gun under.

Bre, thank you, thank you. Several of your videos combined to get me off my butt. Your chain saw carb forced function was one, just keep revving to get the diaphragm working. The one on Mantis and how great they are as a tiller, was another. I remembered I had a 4 stroke Mantis tiller that has been sitting more than 5 years. Tank empty, no oil in it. I dragged it out, gave it a good wash and let it dry. Filled oil as shown in manual (still had that too), added gas only, and it started with the primer (which disintegrated right after). It started and would idle, but not rev up. What you did with the chainsaw, I did with the tiller. Just keep trying to rev it out. After about 3 minutes it was revving just fine and digging in the earth. Again, thanks for all you do for us viewers. May God bless and keep you healthy.

I love this video. It was exciting/thrilling to watch. It was a trip into an unknown outcome. I mean, it's Bre, she's a master repairer, so we were pretty sure it would come out running like a champ. This reminds of my uncle, who was a tinkerer, who's advice was give it a try. It's always encouraging to watch Bre's video, but this one was next level. Much like Frankenstein's monster, it lives. And being more than the sum of it's parts, it will probably run forever. It will be handed down for generations to come.

I'm probably the only one cringing as you pulled the tarp back. I live in the desert of west Texas, and anytime something is tarped it makes a great home for rattlesnakes. I have uncovered enough to know to stay way off to the side, and that any snake disturbed is likely to be aggressive because of the disturbance. You probably have more copperheads there than rattlers. They do like tarps too, so be watchful please.

Cut the grip off if worn out. Trying to re use grip I always slid a blunted coat hanger size wire under grip putting a bit of acetone in along the way. Work quickly as acetone evaporates quickly. i see some say air to get the grip off. sometimes it works sometimes not. what i found was to round the end of an 1/8th inch weld rod and chuck it in a hand drill. as you feed it in between the grip and the housing it will "walk" around the housing breaking the bond once it's all the way through you can pull the grip and it will walk right off. a little dish soap may help.

Love your videos, even though all my gas-powered gear have been retired. I suffered all those things that you talk/warn about. Where were you 40 years ago? LOL Anyway, I was watching you struggle with those grips, and I was yelling at my screen "Get your compressor nozzle and jam it into the interface between the grip and the pole." I was laughing at myself! So that is a trick for removing handlebar grips from my Harley. It literally makes the grip float off. Also, I bought a set of those cool Japanese screwdrivers (Vela?). I tested a Phillips-head and it was tight. Thanks for the tip. QUESTION: Does the speed feeder 400 work on Kobalt electric string trimmer? Are those mounts universal?

Shindiawa and the early red max trimmers were the best in my opinion… But that’s been 20 years ago when I was cutting grass and doing landscaping…😅I’ve used a couple echos that I like but the spark arrest always got stopped up… My buddy had an echo the other day and the head turned backwards…😂 I’ve never seen anything like that, it would be a learning curve for sure… Most of these pansies nowadays I’d cut their damn ankles off with a damn trimmer…😭 They’ll be out there walking with that sumbitch…😂 I saw a kid at my work the other day running a weed eater, I was taking a break and talking on the phone. I glanced at him and looked back 5 minutes later and he was in the same spot…😭 I thought, lawd have mercy put the trimmer down and back away…😅 You ain’t gonna make any money like that. Lmfao Try using an air nozzle to help get the handle grip off… Idk if it’ll work on those but it’ll work magic on motorcycle grips…

Compressed air is your ally when it comes to removing those grips. As you did, try to lube things up first (consider using acetone and ATF in a 50/50 mix), moving it around by hand (as you did). Then, break out an air nozzle, ideally one that has a small diameter tube on it that you can shove under the rubber) and blow that thing off!!

Those are great trimmers. Buddy of mine has one I have fixed a couple of times. Beat as all get out cause it gets left outside most of the time despite my trying to convince them not to. Only problem is more vibration than it should have due to a cruddy shaft thanks to its neglect. My prolly 15+ yr old Echo that is only a GT-200, was free, and also was beat and abused by a previous owner looks mint by comparison, but it stays in the garage. Both still running tho

One of my most reliable chainsaws is a 16" FrankenSaw. Mostly Poulan Pro, but parts from other saws from the same basic lines. Nothing wrong with those

Bre, I saw a video a while back where a guy used compressed air to blow into the grip on a handlebar to get the stuck-on grip off. It worked pretty good in that situation. I wonder if it would have worked on the shaft grip??? Great job on the Frankenstein!! Sounds great!!

Other than the deck rusting, my Toro 20016 that I bought in 2001 is running strong. The Tecumseh engine starts on first pull. I replaced the transmission a couple of years age. The carb has never been serviced.
