Speaker: Maria Teresa Pellecchia, MD, PhD (Italy; Combattiamo MSA Italia)
Dr. Pellecchia earned her medical degree with honors at the University of Naples, School of Medicine in 1994, and her PhD in neurosciences in 2005 at the Department of Neurological Sciences, University “Federico II”, Naples. Currently, she is assistant professor of neurology at the Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, University of Salerno. Her research interests include: progression of movement disorders, with particular regard to Parkinson’s disease (PD) and multiple system atrophy; neuroendocrinology of PD and atypical parkinsonisms; neuroimaging in the differential diagnosis of parkinsonian syndromes; clinical neuropharmacology of movement disorders. Dr. Pellecchia has contributed to clinical trials of several antiparkinsonian drugs, and her contributions to clinical research have been focused on both clinical and genetics of movement disorders, especially related to PD and Parkinsonism. She contributed to the development of new tests for the differential diagnosis of Parkinsonism. Dr. Pellecchia is the author of several peer-reviewed medical journal articles.
