Brent, you lucky dog, going to all those cool places. But you totally earned it, plus you share it with all of us, so I guess that makes you a lucky dog/mensch ?? Just made that up.🙂🙂💯✨️

Perhaps a video on the craftsmen behind Winterthur. Techniques, etc. sounds like they had to reproduce as well as install.

Each time that I have been, I have seen or recognized something that I didn't see or appreciate on previous trips.

The first time I went to Winterthur was in the 5th grade. We'd been doing a unit on Early American architecture and furniture design, which was basically all about Classical forms in architecture and the specific forms in furniture (Chippendale, Hepplewhite, etc). I was instantly hooked and have been ever since! I've only been back to Winterthur once since then, but I've spent a lot of time learning about it. It's one of the most amazing repositories for America's "built environment" anywhere! There is even a large research building if you are looking to study specific things, like fabrics, rugs, or soup tureens! If you're into historic architecture and home furnishings, you MUST make a pilgrimage to Winterthur! My favorite thing is the Montmorenci stairs - that stunning, swirling stair structure shown briefly in the video, rescued from a North Carolina mansion that was being demolished. I could sit and stare at it's soaring graceful lines all day!

Great advice! What a fantastic collection. As you say, even from five rooms, I can see specific details stand out from the generic period styles we often see. I had no idea there were that many rooms there.

I went here once and would love to go back. Some of those bedrooms werent available on the tour when i was there. Have to say im sure they put some debate into it but i didnt care for the lighting they added. Any way love the content!!

With 175 rooms to choose from, you never get to see the whole house - it's impossible to do, even in two days. Not with any detailed tour guiding. What they do is have themed tours, that usually last an hour, and you need to plan ahead if you want to do more than one per day because it's almost always booked (winter not so much, but Spring/summer/fall = busy!). They swap out the themes regularly, sometimes monthly, which keeps rooms from being overexposed to visitors. It's wonderful!
