As someone who works in travel medical insurance (I'm the person who answers the phone when you broke your leg and you need to be heli lifted out of the mountains!) I can say this is a very comprehensive video :) Basically any activity where you sign a waiver, won't be covered. Also always be mindful of pre-existing conditions hehe xx

I'm a huge believer in travel insurance. For years I paid for the insurance and never used it. Then last year when in Europe, my father died and I had to get back home. The insurance paid for everything: new tickets, cancelled hotels, cancelled railroad tickets, etc. Then this year in New Zealand, an airline cancelled our flight from the North Island to the South Island. There were no other flights for three days. We used our insurance to get back all our nonrefundable tour and hotel costs. These last two trips more than paid for the 20 trips before that I never used it. I will never travel without travel insurance.

i hope people take notice of this advice. It really was a life lesson for you when your bag was stolen, and you were so lucky to get over it the way you did, which would not work for most people. I like to think my small donation was some help, and I still treasure the postcard.

Very informative video! You're right when you said age affects premiums. I was hoping to become a snow bird, living 6 months in Canada, and 6 months in the US during the colder months. But when I priced medical insurance for my time in Canada it was quite expensive. $2700 just for medical for 6 months. I'm 71 years old and I'm sure that was the deciding factor because they didn't even ask about pre-existing conditions. One insurance company refused to insure me at all. They refuse to insure anyone over 65. I'm still going to spend time in Canada because I love the country. It's far less crowded for the outdoor things I like to do. But I'll probably only spend 3 months up there instead of 6.

I think a big thing people don't know about medical coverage is there's different types. The most common being reasonable vs first world. Basically it's the difference between ending up in a shitty local hospital, or being transported/flown to a first world facility. Always check that the insurance includes first world medical.

I was supposed to see 2 films at the Cannes Film Festival next Thursday as part of my Euro-trip. Insurance would have been great since I was medically poisoned and had to cancel everything. Fortunately it all went bad before cash was outlayed; just a lot of time wasted. Next year! So I spent an absurd amount of money on a blazing fast computer which is great for watching videos by the one and only Hey Nadine! Priorities! :)

Even though it costs quite a lot for international travel insurance for a long period of time, it's better to have than not. You won't regret it!

Definitely get insurance! For all the reasons listed! Got it for myself in India, & Costa Rica. (White water tubing, ATV, elephant & horseback ride[fall or stepped on foot], poisonous snakes, bad h2o, heat prostration, etc.) Fun, fun, fun! Add immunizations to that insurance, check w/CDC for recommended.

Big tip on travel insurance. Do not use Safety Wing! They do not pay out claims and once they have your money they don't want to know you!

1. I think you forgot trip delay insurance. 2. What proofs and paperwork did you/your friend need in order to file for reimbursement for friend's medical expenses? What things did you need to get/do before you should leave the hospital?

Just keeping all your receipts and contact your insurance provider as soon as possible. They will tell you the proper steps to take to start a claim and all the necessary documents and information you need.

Just because it's the cheapest doesn't mean that it was the wrong choice for you. It all depends on your particular needs! Next time look into the details and compare a few policies. But at the end of the day, anything is better than nothing.

For something like that, you'd be best contacting an insurance company and telling them your particular situation and asking what kind of options they can offer. Definitely shop around a bit. Good luck!

Nadine , in my experience insurance is a must but more importantly full disclosure of any medical issues are a must . A heart attack & heart surgery have slowed my travels a bit , In my younger days I’d foolishly travel all the time without insurance , something that is for me impossible to do now . Getting insurance with heart failure is difficult but I do recommend anyone in my shoes to contact the British Heart foundation as they have insurers that are good for my condition .

depends where you go imo. i ended up in the hospital in vietnam and south korea and both instances i had no travel insurance but both places were verrrrrrrrry cheap. also i got a like three or four vaccines in bangkok that totaled to less than two hundred bucks

Medical coverage might be cheap there, but if you need an emergency flight home then it can still save thousands. Not to mention stolen/lost baggage or trip cancellation/interruption
