One of the most unique small controllers is Korg Kaoss DJ. Backlit knobs and touch pad with a lot of effects. Touch decks is not ideal but manageable. I've used it powered by power-banks and iPad and it works good. There's mappings for it but the controller is only found used these days.
Hercules has the DJControl Mix (startlight may have been an earlier iteration). Watched DJ SkratchBastid use a DJControl Mix last month during a pop-up vacation stream. Was crazy b/c he was mixing and skratchin' while sitting in a lounge chair.
Hi Thanks for the reviews -Brilliant! I purchased the Hercules DJControl Starlight and I followed your instruction to use laptop audio but it silences and there is no output. Any Ideas please?
Hi Phil, I hope you’re feeling better! I’ve been using Pioneer DDJ-SX for over 10 years now, with Serato DJ Pro. I decided to buy the Hercules Starlight, so I could use it in the kitchen for practice, but for some reason it’s not recognizing that I have Serato DJ Pro. Instead, it’s giving me their DJ Pro trial, and the controller itself is acting a little wonky & inconsistent , and it’s asking me for a license, which honestly, I don’t know where to look for that. If I decide to keep it or buy another controller, do I have to buy DJ Pro AGAIN for a different controller? Thank you in advance! Btw, whenever you have vocal problems, a cough or cold, get some Braggs Apple Cider vinegar (has to have the sediment so make sure you shake the bottle), use 2 Tablespoons, then 2 HEAPING Tablespoons of honey, as much cinnamon as you like, some ginger, boil some water, pour it into a mug with those ingredients, drink up! That stuff really kills your cold, and will help your voice. Also good for your stomach. Do it 3 times a day! Best to you! - DJ Ms. Denny
Hi Dee, thanks for the remedy - sounds lovely, will give it a go! Unless you actually BOUGHT Serato at some point, I am guessing you won't be able to use the full Serato with your Starlight, because your copy of Serato is tied to your SX. Worth checking with Serato support, but I think that's probably what's happening.
Thanks for another helpful video! I'm wondering what would be a good pair of portable speakers to connect to the reloop ready? Lots of speakers don't seem to have RCA inputs. Cheers!
Just buy a 2x RCA to 1/8" stereo minjack lead, then you can use any speakers with an 1/8" minijack input. However, the problem is that most Bluetooth speakers, even with an Aux input, have a bit of a delay. So on a budget, best thing is to go to a computer store and buy a set of gaming speakers.
I just picked up the Reloop Ready specifically for throwing in a backpack along with my laptop, so I don't have to check an entire flight case for my main controller!
Poor Phil has had a cold or is suffering with or from...oh dear... get well please soon Phil....!!!! i feel for you and your poor voice sounds bunged up
One of my VRChat friends recently got into DJing, but she's still doing it with just straight up mouse and keyboard, and is a bit tight on cash atm. Was pointing her in the direction of the DJ2GO2/Starlight as her first controller a good idea? Or should she wait to save up her money? I kinda had the idea of "if she knows what she's doing, having a least some proper hardware should help her a lot".
As a first controller, the DJ2GO2/Starlight are actually NOT that great, since their interfaces differ a lot from slightly bigger controllers. I think the Reloop Buddy would be the better solution, or if she has the space for it: something like a Numark Mixtrack Pro/Platinum FX!
