It's such a pity you went just to the Ossuary, that isn't even in Kutná hora the town, but in Sedlec. Kutná Hora is actuallly a unesco heritage and has a beautiful historical center, one of the finest gothic centers in Europe, with Chrám Sv. Barbory and Vlašský dvůr as its biggest gems. You did the rookie mistake every tourist that goes to the ossuary makes.. And you actually had the painted townscape while walking through the underpass in trainstation there, with picture of town panorama in the end. Kutná Hora even used to compete with Prague for the spot of the capital, back in medieval times.

Woops. Someone said go to the Church of Bones, so I went there. Didn't realize there was a lot more to the town. Maybe I'll get the chance to go back, will keep it in mind.

It’s kind of funny because the bone church is like a 10 minute stop while Kutna Hora itself is a day trip of things to see and nice place to get a lunch and beers.

@@salamanders6969 I think it's due to the pronounciation of Czechia being not clear for english speaking people and is very often confused with Chechnya. Also, Czech Republic has a better vibe to it and represents the country better than Czechia, which sounds more like some kind of post-Soviet Asian region and not Europe. Also, the Czech Repuiblic is a republic consisting of 3 historical states Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia and the Bohemian part is called in Czech language "Česko" which means in Englsih Czechia thus ommiting the rest of the country.

I felt for you as you sorted out the train platforms. They are one of my travel anxiety points. Once in Basel, Switzerland I got to the right train platform at 1:05 for a train departing at 1:15 for Wengen and a train was already there. I asked the platform conductor, a guy with a fancy uniform and a big hat, "Excuse me, is this the 1:15 for Wengen?" He looked at me imperiously, flung his hand up at a big clock showing the time, and said, "Does this look like 1:15 to you?"

You made it to the bone church near Kutná Hora!! What a bummer no cameras allowed nowadays. Granted I was there 24 years ago (2000) but I took a ton of pictures with my camera (pre-cell phone days.) Reading the comments I guess I did the rookie mistake too!!! I just took the train from Prague, visited the bone church, and took the train right back to Prague! After all these years the bone church just stood out from all my memories in the Czech Republic. Hope you enjoyed the experience regardless, and I hope the weather gets better for you soon. ❤️

The confusion about the name of Czechia and The Czech republic is based on the folowing: The Czech Republic is an official name: Like France is officially The French Republic or Germany is The Federal Republic of Germany. The local narrativ says that when the new republic was founded its official name was filled into international databases but the non-official wasn't - respectively the same name had been put there as for the official one. Therefor for a long period of time the only used name in every possible situation was The Czech Republic - for instance on dresses in sports, team names etc (e.g there you would normally have Germany and not The Federal Republic of Germany ). But not long time ago the non-official name was "officially" actualized, however, many people - including me - haven't got used to it and still use the official name for all cases.
@richardaubrecht2822
@richardaubrecht2822 Месяц назад
Official name of the country is Czech Republic, Česká republika. Česko or Czechia is the official short name, like Germany is actually a short name of the Federal Republic of Germany.And no, despite internet claims most people today are indifferent or even like the Czechia name. But if somebody doesn't like it he doesn't like it very loudly.

Also someone was wondering how come that there are a lot of such big and nice historical buildings in Prague or Czech Rep. or in Europe in general. The existence of many large and monumental buildings in a city or region is often the result of several historical, cultural, and socio-economic factors. Here are some key reasons: Historical Significance: Cities with a long and rich history tend to accumulate monumental buildings. These structures often serve as symbols of power, wealth, or religious devotion. They reflect the historical events, periods, or figures that shaped the region. Political Power: Powerful empires, kingdoms, or governments often build large and impressive structures to demonstrate their authority and influence. These can include castles, palaces, government buildings, and monuments that were intended to showcase the might of the ruling class. Cultural and Religious Importance: Religious institutions and cultural practices often drive the construction of monumental buildings. Cathedrals, temples, mosques, and other religious structures are frequently large and ornate to inspire awe and reverence. Similarly, theaters, libraries, and museums reflect the cultural values of a society. Economic Prosperity: Cities that were historically wealthy from trade, industry, or other economic activities could afford to build on a grand scale. Wealthy patrons, including merchants and nobility, often funded monumental architecture to display their success and support the community. Architectural Innovation: Advances in architectural techniques and technology can lead to the construction of larger and more complex buildings. In some cases, these innovations are driven by a desire to create enduring landmarks or achieve feats of engineering. Legacy and Preservation: Cities with a commitment to preserving their heritage will maintain and protect their historical buildings. This can lead to a landscape rich in monumental structures that attract tourism and serve as a link to the past. Overall, the presence of historically significant, monumental buildings is a sign of a city's unique journey through history, encompassing its political, cultural, religious, and economic evolution over time.
