Always found that union guys were the best at installing large complicated conduit runs. Found out that some large union shops have very smart guys who's only job is laying out conduit runs.
I'm a 1st year apprentice up here out of Local 26 in DC, watching your videos has got me squirming with anticipation to get to traveling once I top out
@@Patstickyman I’m working out of local 53, just go down to the local wherever you live and ask about testing in. From what I know thus far in the union, you will be put into an apprenticeship program if you don’t have any in-field hours prior to joining. I was non union for 3 1/2 years before I joined last year. I tested in as a CE8, the highest classification of an apprentice before you top out as a Jman. Just call and I’m sure the hall will give you all the necessary info you need to start out. Best of luck brother
i've been doing this off and on for awhile now. glad to see i'm not just a dumb 24 year old kid like folks say. i save almost all the money i make and have more than most friends my age because of this lifestyle.. they spend theirs on apartments and nice cars.
21 year old here just got into the construction craft union laborer apprentice journeyman, nervous to travel but worth the pay. Looking forward to the career
Have to be carefull at gyms. A sparky I know first had a gym locker broken into & had his wallet stolen so he started locking up wallet in his work van. Broke into that and stole a second wallet.
Seems like you’re halfway between a trucker and a van lifer. Maybe you should consider a “Hotshot” rig with a turtle shell. Sleep and the back seat and store you equipment in the bed or get an actual van and convert it. You’re a sparky so you can do most of the stuff and your buddy on the job site can rip the insulation and lumber etc
Hey Wally, 21 year local 3 IBEW NYC journeyman here, you literally have me the idea to call my union and see if I could to travel with like yourself. I'll let u know how everything works out
I’m thinking about traveling once my youngest graduates high school. I have some questions if you’re willing to answer, it might motivate me to get out there and work all those OT jobs, sub pay, per diem, etc. while taking small mini vacations with the wife between traveling from local to local. What kind of income can one expect to earn while working OT on the road for 10 months per year? How many hours are you putting in every year on the road? Do you have any strategies for traveling for work?
I travelled to 242 to work Superior refinery. 6 10's. Majority of the time the per diem was $100. It went up to $150 for awhile. A few guys made $100,000 in six months that I know of.
No, but you can take your pension money out at 55. So it's an age based not time in,, of course call your local union hall to be certain. . Thanks brother!
I love the IBEW. But the cost of living has gone up dramaticlly. Contractors dont want to pay more ; so now everyone is on a witch hunt looking for money. There is no reason you should have to leabe your home and family for better pay or benefits. In solidarity. Keep your heads up brothers.
Yeah I’m looking to join as an apprentice and start a new career as an electrician I’m here in Texas … I don’t want to leave home and family for a paycheck…
