This might be one of the most popular tourist activities in David Thompson Country in the winter. Abraham Lake is famous for being in mountainous terrain which leads to a lot of methane being naturally released in the water. So once the water starts getting colder & freezes, this traps methane into the ice making crazy bubble artwork throughout most of the lake. We spend an entire day around the safer areas of the lake showing you how to get the most of your day on the ice & how to safely explore this frozen wonderland.
The lake is actually an active reservoir and care must be taken of which areas you discover as water levels change consistently throughout the winter. January to March are the best times to view these ice formations but the weather spikes from week to week & year to year also affect the best times to visit the lake. Watch and enjoy this video as we share as many tips & safety precautions for you to enjoy this gorgeous winter activity!

Thank you! It’s a great place to explore in the winter, the winds keeps large portions of the lake cleared off.

@@dupreemottley7320it never feels normal to be walking around on the ice but when you can see there's several feet of ice, its not as bad!
