In this video, nDreams CEO Patrick O'Luanaigh discusses the opportunities found and challenges overcome by our studio in implementing free movement in 1st-person for our upcoming story-driven VR game, 'The Assembly'.
As Patrick says, it has been a challenging feature to work out and is something other teams are currently trying to figure out for their own titles.
SUMMARY:
• Embrace first person movement if right for your project.
• Offer traditional first person movement tailored for VR.
• Include a comfortable alternative which avoids natural movement and rotation.
• Test everything - what works for your game may be different!

It seems like these guys have done tons of research in the VR movement space. I would like to try the blink movement for myself, but will probably stick to traditional controls. Can't wait for consumer VR headsets.. Just the amount of VR content being released is enough to get me excited based on that alone, but with the higher fidelity screens and motion controls, I'm as hyped as ever. May have to get both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift CV1. Dk2 is already a mind blowing experience. Its a shame that this is only 4 hours long :(

Sadly the "blink" method only really works well when you use your head to pick your destination. If you use a controller to pick your destination, it *can* give you motion sickness due to the user's head not necessarily looking in the right direction. For example, blinking while looking 90 degrees from the destination gave me motion sickness.

Thanks for those insights. We tried a FPS shooter game with the Durovis Dive and the iPhone 4 and bigger screens in some Pubs and Bars and no one reported Cyber sickness, but some Pints might have helped with that ;) That was at the 2014 FIFA World Cup final, time flies...

Focal Point ( Unity asset ) has a great method for navigating in the Vive.

This will never work unless you get ahold of some pure, unrefined spice melange.
