Sweet, I’m buying a 410 Sundancer with no electronics on it and needed this so I can navigate a complete install. Thanks so much

if you've got an old pulse radar and room, leave it installed and use the spread radar for close range, < 2nm for night running... always use RFU ... get a a/p control with large round bering control you'll quickly learn 8 detents for 8 degrees or however many degrees to change.

Unfortunately I dont have an old radar, As a matter of fact I dont even have a place to install the new one. Im going to have to fab/weld up some kind of aluminum mast. Thanks for the details and advice.

That shadow drive is a game changer you’ll love it. Also very easy to install. Very curious on the floscan. I have Cummins mechanical and would love to see that install.

I would think it would be a game changer. I think those that report issues are mainly die to install errors. I already have a floscan installed. I think I have an old video with some of the details on it. But the one I already installed has an analog needle gauge. Which I found out is really not accurate enough. You can find New Old Stock units available on Ebay for cheap. floscan recently came back in business too. So they support the transducers etc. Also look at Maretron for fuel flow equipment. Pricey though. I paid about $500 for the new old stock Floscan.

Wow - what a workshop! I love the whiteboard. BTW - you probably already know it but just in case - do not install the autopilot compass anywhere within 2 feet of magnets or metal. I originally installed mine on the other side of a wall from the battery bank and it instantly fried the compass. They are over $1,000 to replace. You are going to have an awesome system!
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 Год назад
Thanks Ron. The workshop gets a ton of use. I have heard the warning on the compass placement several times now. I may even get a gauss meter to take magnetic measurements to help with placement. They are pretty cheap these days. Certainly less than $1000 😆. Thanks for the warning.

You'll love the autopilot, it's top notch. There is no manual mode, to steer it you're changing the heading in heading hold mode. I just got the remote less than a month ago but I already love it. It has separate buttons for 1 degree and 10 degree change. If you hold either they repeat (wild guess) about once per second. My boat takes a moment to respond to steerage and is easy to over-steer, I use the autopilot in the channel and even inside the marina, then switch to the wheel before I turn into the fairway.

Thats so dang cool. That sounds like it will be fun..lol. Thank you very much for the feedback. And you are probably the third person to tell me the same thing. What boat are you running it on?

@@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 I have an Islander 44 sailboat. I had the yard install mine, for the actuator they had build-up a mount out of fiberglass inside the hull and add a plate to my steering quadrant (chain and cable steering,) the angle of the actuator to the quadrant and the distance of travel are critical... I could've handled connecting it up but running the wiring was a bitch. It took a professional AYBC certified yacht tech the better part of a week to do it I was onboard when they did it, watched some of it... hopefully yours has conduits or channels than make running wiring easier!

We are taking the boat out for a shakedown run tomorrow. After that, I will begin with autopilot, radar, and exterior. Very soon.

Be sure to test the location of your gps hub(CCU with green connection) ie: don’t lock it down till tested for a while. I installed mine a bit too close to something magnetic/electric that bothered it and had to reset the direction of my boat quite often. I moved it a few feet back and it is fine now. It was a real pain to move it after everything was neatly installed.

Can I ask how much all this equipment cost?
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 Год назад
@@curthook9622 I really dont know and did not keep track. It took nearly a year to accumulate all this stuff. So long that some of the prices went up over that time. I would say somewhere between $9000 and $10,000 paying full retail. You could certainly shave that down with the occasional sales or bundles (like chart plotter and Radar bundle). You can also shave some off by using a 723XSV at one station and you dont really need the AP controllers. I do get a small discount through my job. So that helped.
@curthook9622
@curthook9622 Год назад
@@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 was trying to get an idea what it would cost to completely update all systems. That’s actually much less then I thought. Thanks
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 Год назад
@@curthook9622 If you can do the install yourself thats where much of the savings comes. I will be documenting this install here. I have already started. If you already have an outdated system installed it might be easier too. Much of the routing will be similar. and hydraulic connections may already be T-eed in.

Only problem with Garmin is that they change there products line often simrad and furuno not so much and there products are compreative. Nice stuff looks expensive for sure.

So if not Garmin what was your second option, I just ordered Garmin radar but was am still on the fence of it a friend persuaded me to it but was committed to furuno,I really am undecided between the two

Does it make sense to configure a laptop on the network to get more capability and bigger screen?
