RC Super Fun Time, Episode 6 "'Traxxas Slash 2WD Tips and Tricks"
Hey y’all right on and thank you for tuning in!!! Check out the latest video in the ongoing saga of RC Super Fun Time! Today we talk a bit about one of my favorite all time rigs….the 2wd Traxxas Slash. I have a lot of favorite all time rigs…have you noticed. Addicted!! Yes I am!
I have two 2wd Slashes. The one we will be looking at today is way far from stock and we call it The Company Car. They all need a name…don’t make fun. Heh heh. Watch the video and you can see some of things that I have done to improve performance and durability. Some of the stuff I found on the interweb and some I came up with on my own after multiple breakages. Oops! Here is a list of some of the products that are installed on the truck and a comment (my opinion) or two about them…
Traxxas LCG kit. If you want to race you need this. No racing…. no need.
Castle 1410 3800KV brushless motor with a 5mm shaft. Sensored. Yes the 5mm shaft really does feel stronger. Sensored….I don’t think I need that.
That ESC is some kind of Hobbywing knockoff. 120a Sensored. “TSKY Enjoy myself” is what is says on the top. Enjoy myself??!? Huh? It can be programmed with the Hobbywing program card. Cheap…real cheap. It died after this video. But it lasted about a year. $16 - one year - I’m cool with that.
RPM parts. Lots of RPM parts. Including an RPM transmission housing. Real nice for wrenching. You can pull the tranny out without disassembling the entire rear end.
Traxxas big bore shocks. These have held up great. Perform well and no bent shafts….yet.
STRC aluminum bulkhead (#SPTST2530B) and front hinge pin brace (#ST2532XB). I don’t like aluminum parts. But in that location the aluminum is perfect.
Traxxas aluminum caster blocks (#3632A). I don’t like aluminum but the RPM caster blocks kept flexing and letting the vertical hinge pins come out or bend. No good.
Proline vertical hinge pins. King pins (#6101-02). Much better than stock. Bends less. STRC also makes these and they are just as good.
Proline Shock mounting hardware (#606305).
STRC Hinge Pin kit (#ST3640BK).
Hot Racing Aluminum steering bellcrank housing (TE48X01). This has a servo saver built-in, adjustable, and has worked great for me so far.
Spektrum S6040 servo. This thing is fast, very fast. Kind of makes the truck harder to drive until you get used to it.
MIP rear axles (#10130). Tough as a pine knot. Double check to get the correct part for your truck. They make several lengths.
Proline Badlands rear tires. Way wicked traction. A bunch of forward push. Maybe not the best for racing. Unbeatable traction tho. Watch the gravel in your driveway….leave the driveway at a high rate of speed.
Proline Gladiator front tires. Also nice traction. Probably better for racing. They do get gummed up with mud tho. The Badlands clear better.
Wow I never realized how much aftermarket stuff I had on this truck! It is to the point now that I’m not sure I can break it without major stupidity on my part. Hope that list helps y’all with your own Slash.

You are 100% right. If you lube your universals with oil, it collects dirt and grinds them down. I use a wax base lube for bike chains. Works great on gears as well. Oh and stick a tooth pick in stripped screw holes. Star the screw, tighten and brake off exsess tooth pick.
@rcsuperfuntime7524

I've used the tooth pick in a wood situation... Like a hinge on a wood door. Never thought about it with the plastic. I think that's a good call tho. I'll try it.

I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, SOME OF MY FAV ON RC ON RU-vid, especially your video about what rc is right for you and this one on the slash!! i actually bought an arrma granite 4x4 blx and actually enjoyed running WAY MORE as 2wd (removing centre driveshaft). Anyways i’m tired of hearing people say 4x4 is best... BORING!! 2wd the way to go. Anyways, my granite keeps breaking due to my abuse and i have no local arrma part support, i’m excited just picked up a slash 2wd vxl and i’m excited cuz it’s my first traxxas ever and also because ill have local and aftermarket part support! thanks for your vids your advice has been so helpful and very entertaining

A trick that I do is where the screw goes through whatever, I reverse it so that instead of working the screw, you’re working the nut instead..a lot quicker if you have to change the axle carrier or the front steering components...
@rcsuperfuntime7524
@rcsuperfuntime7524 3 года назад
Ok yeah I got you. I have several different brands and it's cool to see how each does that a bit different. Some have no backer nuts at all. Some back up everything. The Tekno I have is very thorough like that. Tough as a pine knot too!

Hey Kevin. Any help on your front and rear camber/toe settings? You run mostly track and dirt? I run both and a little street.
@rcsuperfuntime7524
@rcsuperfuntime7524 5 лет назад
I'm not the greatest at setup. I try to set mine neutral and change each truck slightly depending on how they perform. On dirt I have found rear toe-in is crucial for traction. I use 1-3 degree toe-in for the rear depending on the truck. I try to set the front to zero or just slight toe-in. Rear camber about a positive 1. Front camber negative 2.5. Drive the truck.... Change one thing.... Drive again. Repeat until satisfied. And good luck!

My shock shafts keep bending. Any way to fix this problem?
@rcsuperfuntime7524
@rcsuperfuntime7524 5 лет назад
Not really. Traxxas makes a stouter version of the shock shafts. Part number 1664T is the front TiN coated shock shafts. If you replace the stock shafts with those they will not bend as easy. Check the lengths and get the right ones when you order.
@jdmikeg4
@jdmikeg4 5 лет назад
RC Super Fun Time thanks. I got them a couple weeks ago. They have yet to bend. I think the stock shafts are just really soft.

@jdmikeg4

a a The stock shafts are made of cheap aluminum. The upgraded shafts will not bend, they can only break with enough force.

Hot racing is a great brand
@rcsuperfuntime7524
@rcsuperfuntime7524 3 года назад
I complain about them but they are no worse than some others. Well maybe a bit worse. Haha! Everyone has their brands they prefer based on their experience. I have just not had good luck with them myself. I say stick with what has served you well in the past. A big one for me is service and warranty type things. If they handle the problem I'll come back. If they blow me off.... I'll blow them off. Haha! With that being said T-Bone Racing has been one of the best with parts warranty I ever used. Bondus is another company that has really impressed me with their tool warranty.
