@@MoBay876rc hey how is the max6 esc with the double tap to reverse for front flips and quick reverse for saves and air control? I kinda like how I can do instant reverse on the stock esc. Kinda wish hobbywing gave you an option to select forward/reverse option
@@MoBay876rc every big rc company cuts corners in their RTR models. Its a marketing strategy and would hurt their sell point if they made the xmaxx xome with the best of the best and had to sell it for 1500-1700. Rc company's cut corners to keep cost down and let it up to the consumer to thenbadd or upgrade certain parts at their discretion because they wouldn't sell nearly as many if they were priced at 1500+
Good heads up. 👍 Just bought a XMAXX about a week ago and always helpful to know a few things to watch for. & Really great to know some things to upgrade too.
Awesome buddy you hit the nail on the head 👌👍 ive had quite a few more problems with mine when im going big! And been working on a video showing how to turn these things into tanks to take massive air and crashing 👌🤘👍
Pain in the RC I appreciate your comment bro I’ve had a few more problems to but these seem to be the major ones for me lol I’m not a hard core basher like you 😂 so I’m sure you really gave the xmaxx a good beating 🤘🏾what problems have you had with your have you bent your kush drive yet bashing .
I've had my Xmaxx for 9 months and I still have all stock parts. Nothing on my Xmaxx has gone bad. Thank god. Still have original bearings, esc, tires, servo, gears and everything else is stock too. I play with mine in the street, grass and dirt
Sal M yeah the stock body’s suck they have a few weak points in the front and back I just picked up a clear proline ford raptor body I use to have the Russian unbreakable body but I sold it when I thought I was gonna sell my xmaxx
@@theundertaker2250 you ever self right? I know a lot of people still use it but my e revo 2.0 destroyed the spur gear, front and rear diffs, motor, and esc from a single use of self right 😅 got it replaced under warranty but I’d highly reccomend not using it with these heavier trucks... something like a maxx or hoss might be fine though
Had the same issue with running my x maxx in water with the stock Esc max 6 is the way to go man great video for new people to the hobby another switch out for those gears is a pully system got one on mine won’t ever go back
You should have 100k or more subs because how detailed you are and great video make more video on traxxas xmaxx btw what was the first thing that ever broke when got the xmaxx
I have pro-line badlands on my xmaxx. I love them! It’s so nice not worrying whether or not your tires will come unglued or blow apart. I recommend a spool to replace your rear diff. Then your rear wheels will be a “Live axle” It will equalize the power to both rear wheels and save your drive cups. I run Beadlock belted badlands RPM hubs all (4) corners W/ larger bearings 2085X servo, larger spring, CNC aluminum servo horn. hardened steel spur gear Hot racing Rear spool live axle “No one wheeler peeler” RPM hinge pins upgraded bearings The truck is tough as nails!
The real cost is when you start buying spares too, I've probably spent £700, $850 on spares already and I've only owned it for 2 weeks and ran the car once so far, lol, the green alloy steering was $160 and servo was $170 for savox one, all adds up 😳
Ya my stock spur gear as I was doing a wheelie back to me, dropped the front and I thought the pinion slid off like I've seen others do on RU-vid, when I opened the pinion cover the pinion and spur had no more than 5 teeth combined left. So I changed to a Hot racing spur and a tekno pinion. While at the hobby shop was showing them what happened and I noticed one of the screw holes for the spur had the bottom broken off and a crack from that hole all the way through. Like you said not real steel and they obviously tightened it to much at the factory. Good thing that's all it messed up.
@@MoBay876rc they should do recalls on the new ones that are not really prepared for 8s and at least send the upgraded parts that us in the hobby know what they need to be ready for the 8s power. All they have to do is watch the same vids we do that all have the same problems bashing or not. I don't bash mine maybe 3-4 feet off the ground but no flips, unless by accident stopping to quick. Lol. And for them to say STEEL gears means there is a little metal in it. But like a jar that says no preservatives added, of course it was not added during the jarring process but is in the food itself. That's how they get around things making you feel they're being honest with what they say. Like iron ore. Does have iron in it but half rock aswell. That's what they look like when stripped, with teeth gone you see alot of brown.
When you changed your esc to the max6 esc. Did you hook back up the temp wire going to the motor? Also how did the truck act when it went into thermal shutdown
Allen Nickles I did not hook it back up and it ran fine the stock esc in thermal shutdown the truck would just stop on me but never had that problem with the max 6
Are you running the 6s or 8s motor? I have a similar set up as you and the 6s motor was crazy fast but I ended up melting it so had to switch back. Pretty accurate vid though I’ve had to do all of the same mods just to keep it from self destructing
I've ran my xmaxx 8s about 6 times already with no esc issues so far. But I did upgrade the firmware with the Bluetooth module. Do you use the pins to adjust the mesh on the gears or do you do it manually? I've heard it's a bad idea to install the 46t speed pinion and use the pins, so some people do it manually. I have no problem doing it on my Arrma vehicles, but I need to see how you do it manually with the xmaxx 8s. Thanks.
Great vid👍👍 the first thing I did was sell my stock esc for 180 bucks and bought a max 6 so no money loss there and yes HR gears are the way to go .. I never had a prob wit my tires knock on wood tho .. I also put 40 wt shock oil in all my shocks and it makes a big difference my fellow basher👍👍
I think mine just took a crap. Wanted to do some bashing today and after I plugged it in and checked my steering, it wouldn't do anything. I could go forward and back but couldnt turn. I havent used it in about a week but it worked fine then. I did notice that once I took the front end off, my servo seemed jammed or whatever.
Bomboclatt bro, yeah i blew tyres too but it only happens when you get the wheels wet lol water trying to escape, punch some holes and never happen again lol
This is exactly why I made this video to show all the problems this truck has hint its why I no longer own it its nothing but over priced trash hope your new upgrades fix your problems
I have an Xmaxx that is three years old. Only had the servo issue and a stock one was put back in under warranty. I also had an issue with spur gears and currently run a hot racing spur. Going through water like you did probably damaged the ESC. Tire ballooning in cold weather will cause it to fail.
Mine has a loud clicking noise near the spur gear. Any ideas of what it is? Diff? My dad already put the hot racing 54t and a new pinion gear so I don't think it's the gears :(
Yep!! Max6 esc already done after stock vxl-8s went dead from MUD.... tires blew from running 8s, same situation, 6s never had issues, within a week of running 8s.... DONE!! luckily so far, gears are still ok. Had to replace from shocks and a lower A-arm but that was my own fault. Other than that, it's great!. I'm up to 10 cars now and the xmaxx is definitely one of my go-to cars for "fun".
Thanks for that, two tyres have come off, blew the foam insert out, u joint cup disintegrated and busted a suspension cap (top)! Pinion constantly coming off the shaft as it is a circle inner not a d shape, trying an Arrma Kraton 5mm bore to see if it fits and if so, holds. I’m a little disappointed with the 8S after all the reviews I’ve seen on them
when i bought my Xmaxx when it first came out i already had a max6 esc ready and waiting,as soon as the xmaxx came in the mail i took one drive and said nah max6 going in now never looked back lol my 6s xmaxx is now upgraded with 8s parts all diff and the lot.
@@MoBay876rc love it bro but haven't been using it,i use my Brushless 5B more :) and i have been flying more as well planes racing drones and 6ch Heli.
@@MoBay876rc way didyou sell it (if you don’t mind me asking)? Is it not worth it? Not a good truck? I’m debating between the xmaxx and the outcast for my first RC just thought a bigger vehicle would be easier to work on seems they all got problems lol
@@peaceismyshelter i sold the xmaxx in my opinion I dont think its a good truck I would definitely go with the outcast 8s better bang for your buck more reliable
Hi, does this new ESC you use behaves the same “smart” way like the Traxxas one: if the vehicle is stopped -not by braking- and you initiate reverse then you do not have to do it twice ( first brake then reverse) but the ESC knows the truck is stand still and it runs reverse for the first front push if the radio lever?
Great info thanx. I had to upgrade the shock caps to aluminum, because they had failed (broke) my first time out bashing. If your doing some hard rc ing things are gonna break. The upgrades are a definite necessity for good performance and reliability. Thanx again.. KEEP ON BASHING!
@@MoBay876rc just got one for mine with a combo. Plus the 2085x servo. I'm looking forward to anything that will help. Is there any programming that will help with it?
Great video. I just bought my xmaxx a week ago. Servo went out. Replaced with upgrade. Now it seems that the steering has locked up. Will be taking it back to shop soon. Kinda new at this RC thing. 🤦🏾♂️
@@MoBay876rc Both are good, Arma comes higher speck but WHEN you break something it will cost way more to fix. Metal doesn't bend back if you land hard. BOTH great trucks though.
Just got a brand new X Maxx yesterday and the servo died on the first 30 min run out of the box I was just driving it back to the garage and all of the sudden it locked up had forwarded and revers but no steering for a big $1,000 monster truck you would think they would throw a steel gear servo in it 🙄 Traxxas offered to replace it but why would I want another POS servo thanks for the advice I got me the steel servo on the way👍👍
That sucks bro you would think traxxas would have fix the servo problem by now along with other problems they have with this truck I appreciate you watching 👊🏽
I've had mine for 2 years. All stock not one of those issues. I beat the shit out of mine. I replaced a shock, an arm. But none of those issues. Run mine on water, mud rocks and I launch it.same 6700 lipos no puffing.
You ever replace bearings running it in water? I ran my e revo 2.0 on wet leaves (to the point where it was rooster tailing water) and the next day when I went to clean it 3 of the bearings were LOCKED 🤣 no big deal really but just wondering what you do with your bearings after a run like that
@@jarrettmaltry6305 I only replaced a few in the time that I owned my xmaxx any time you run in water 💧 use some wd40 it will help out big time thanks for watching
Ok thank you. Ik ill bash and break a few plastic parts but bigger question i have and i suppose i shouldve specified but on 6s with the 8s version, how will my stock traxxas esc hold up? I really dont want to go buy $100+ esc right off the bat you know
I smell smoke! You burning them tires or is that the sweet smell of trees? Hey, thanks brotha! I’ve been really thinking about that servo upgrade. Yep and those tires are so light and flimsiest I’ve blown through 3 tires last year. But I can’t get myself to shell out that kind of cash for the proline tires. Maybe in a few months. My ESC caught fire too! Max6 works great. One common upgrade you didn’t mention is the CEN hinge pins for the upper A arms. I also ripped through maybe 10 traxxas spurs until I got hot racing spurs. Great review! I will subscribe!
David Truelove thanks bro I appreciate you watching the smoke was the tires and some of that good stuff🌲👀😁 yeah the pro line badlands are not cheap but worth every 💵 thanks for the sub bro 👍🏾 hope your xmaxx runing 💪🏾
The stock tires suck I would try out the badlands they are a little bit expensive but worth the money you wont have that problem at all any more good luck
You can use a strong fishing line or a big oring to prevent them from inflating like a balloon. Try searching on the web or RU-vid there are videos showing you how to fix that problem.
I bought the X-Maxx 8s and the Kershaw 8000 4s packs for it. I have run the crap out of it with no issues at all. The problem is the 5000 mAh batteries are not enough. At wide open throttle, the voltage drops and the amps go through the roof burning up the ESC not to mention when people over gear them.
@@MoBay876rc Well, that's all I've ever had for batteries so I have nothing to compare them to. They seem to make the truck heavy but it's heavy anyway. I know they run a long time. 30+ mins of hard running.
And I did buy 2 tires and traxxas replaced 2 that had no adhesive on about half the tire. They say 8s but are still rated with the same 6s part. So if you're gonna put the 8s moniker on it, make it 8s worthy.
Belt drive is the true cure for spur and pinion problems . Belts run much cooler, smoother more quiet and i have yet to see a broken belt. Tires? If your planning on BASHING, even a mildly bashing I highly recommend you stick with stock tires and rims. Just don't get stock tires wet and do not plug the vent holes in the rims! If you seal those vent holes and giver her a good impact you will blow a tire apart. ASE Certified Master Technician 40 years experience. A car is a car. And i bash x maxxes all day then fix them and bash and trash again. rinse and repeat .
Man you're lucky you got that long out of your servo. SOB I run mine for 20 minutes on a flat baseball field and the gears stripped. Just got it on the 31st 2020, ran it on the first, and it crapped out on the first charge. Crazy for a $1000 toy. They have you by the balls with the no return policy. But it is a beast! Great Video!
Thats exactly why I decided to sell mine after having nothing but trouble with mine have you got yours back up and running hope so ill stick with arrma better bang for your buck thanks for watching
@@MoBay876rc If you can believe it I put a new servo in and 1 1/2 charges later it quit again. first one stripped gears and now this one won't even move. Back to the store to swap servos again. Mother Fkjahsdkjhasdfkjker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've literally only had this truck for 4 days and ran it only 2 1/2 charges. This sucks!!!!
I have the 6s & 8s trucks. The 6s truck was a complete fuckin headache. Everything that could happen to it went in spades: ESC, tires, diffs, servo, 2nd ESC, shock rods, bulkheads, spur, more diffs, bent driveshafts, exploding bearings, motor magnet breaking, even more diffs, & I forget the rest. I just couldn't give up on the money pit since it was so good when it did work. I sold my 3rd 6s ESC/motor replacement & bought a XLX combo that's been in the truck for 2 years. I didn't run it on 8s until the actual 8s parts started to become available. I knew all I would get from that is chewed up diffs. I replaced the plastic diff cups & found China machined spiral diffs that have held up for a yr with the XLX system on 8s. The stock servo just went out again so I replaced it with the upgrade. As for the 8s truck, it is a roller I snagged cheap on ebay. I gutted as much of the shitty Traxxas junk off it as I could sell. I replaced the diffs, a-arms, rear hub carrier, steering links, etc (same stuff as the 6s), dropped in a max5 combo & a 1/5 servo - I had to cut up the chassis a bit but it was fairly easy. It's wearing Trenchers for now but I'm looking into Louise tires. I literally have had NO problems out of the 8s truck because of all the BS I went through with the 6s POS. If the upgrade servo goes in the 6s, I'll have to go 1/5 with it too. I can only feel for the the people who keep on dumping the Traxxas garbage in their trucks.
Bro you could not of said it any better I had a few more problems with mine but the major stuff was in this video I did but if I could do it all over again I would not have paid my hard earned cash on the xmaxx for all the headaches but when its running right it's a blast I tryed selling mine on consignment at my hobby shop but when I thought about how much time and money I put in it I took it back home and it sat for about 6 months before I fixed it back up I appreciate you watching and leaving a very detailed comment 👍🏾
on those spiral diffs, i bought the traxxas ones and i heated them up with a torch and let them air cool, never had an issue, but haven't bashed it around for a year now since i got into fpv freestyle quads, but i do do pull it with a wagon and 200lbs people and its impressed me
@@shanesrt1 that's a smart thing you did with the gears I'm gonna try that out yeah the xmaxx is a very strong truck hands down haven't pulled any thing yet wanna try pulling my real car I've seen it done
5:01 Did 1 spin in snow and my tire blew off on a 3 run new xmaxx. Every run needs new parts, it's so fragile. And i'm not even sending it, just riding it on a flat surface.
Another great upgrade is the cen racing hinge pins part # GS025 greatest ad on ever for the xmaxx !! Those with RPM A-Arms , the truck is a beast it’s definitely my favourite truck out of all of mine for bashing 👍👍
What do you go whit if or you think it's more better for the x maxx hobbywing maxx5 or the castle creations xlx2 sistems bro..hope you give me shot on your yours dude thanks
To be honest you cant go wrong with either esc the max6 works great for me but the castle esc would be good as well it comes down to how much you wanna spend and wich brand you like better and the specs most people run a max5 or max6 esc hope that helps bro thanks for watching 👊🏾
@@MoBay876rc absolutely bro I just get my x maxx around 4 mounts ago so far I just have to replace the servo 2085x but I'm thinking in order an esc just to have it ready for any problems as you know they will happen bro...just one more thing bro. It's stock motor ok for max 5 or xlx2 esc bro??
Why would you ever run it at 100% power on snow with no traction? That's just not good for any rc car, and the tire is not built to run at 2 x the speed, and that's what happens. But you are accurate on what rest of what you speak about. Also, remember to do w 40 on everything, i see your nuts and bolts are rusted.
Hard on it is wear a user learns its strong an weak point's every hobby rc has weak to it to get past that you must upgrade till finnaly your sitting in it yourself an then they break too so there you have it want a hobby that doesnt break collect rain drops
@@closed2459 So true...people buy all these aluminum parts for the xmaxx trying to make it super tough...all that aluminum does is send the shock of crashing to other parts of the truck or worse you warp your expensive aluminum parts...a waste of money...EVERYTHING breaks I stick with cheap stock plastic...
Wait! So your answer to this is to- softly run your RC? Bro what a comment! You will never know what parts to upgrade until you rough it out, those parts are called performance upgrades. We not all live on flatlands or where the terrain is smooth!
Any problems with the max6 mine worked one day and the next all I can get is one red light then turns green and flashes 4 times over and over. Tried different Rx/tx and didn't work and tried motor on different esc and it's fine so definitely esc related
Todd Gerhardt I have no problems with mine at all I’m not sure what’s going on with your esc I would call hobby wing they might replace it for you try to recalibrate it and see if that helps .
I tried recalibrating and unfortunately I got it from China and didn't realize they only warranty their stuff from USA and Canada from authorized dealers so only option I have if I can't fix it is to send it to hobbywing for a replacement with a warranty or fix it somehow lol
Todd Gerhardt that sucks man your the first person I ran across with this problem with the max6 looks like you might have a bad unit hope it works out hobby wing should at least help you trouble shoot .
Thanks I'm sure a solution will come about soon. And it's just my luck lol I have a feeling it's my Traxxas batteries only being 125amp continuous rating and the esc is 160 so I'm selling those now for something better while I find a solution to my esc lol
I've had all these problems!!! I run GDS pinion and spur, same servo and Max 6 as you, my motor has died now so I've gone for a 1/5 scale 980kv. Waiting on a 35t pinion. I would strongly recommend people not to buy this truck brand new because all these things WILL happen and they're not cheap parts. Get a used one that's had all the work done already or just get a used one to put the parts in yourself. These faults make the x maxx not worth the money at all but once the upgrades are done.. What a machine!! Love mine :)
ksrnate I agree with you once you get the flaws fixed it’s a beast for sure thanks for watching it’s sad you put just as money in the truck as it cost to get it to run right and make it strong traxxas could of done better but I love the xmaxx
@@MoBay876rc I know we shouldn't have to spend this much on something already very expensive. It makes me laugh the upgrade servo is made by teaxxas! They know the stock one is crap but still charge us over £100 for the upgrade. By the way I see your still running the traxxas motor, change the bearings!! Bearings are so cheap change them every month. For some stupid reason the end caps that house the bearings are plastic so when mine seized up they span around melting the plastic, the shaft then came loose then the whole thing seized up breaking the magnets inside. You can't buy replacement parts for the motor I've tried. All you can do is replace the bearings so do it now! Or it'll cost you a lot more money!!!
ksrnate thanks a lot for the heads up I never knew that lol I’m on my 2nd motor that’s sad the first one locked up on me I will Definitely take a look at the bearings now that you said that no one ever told me that not even the hobby shop guess sometimes you gotta find out from other people or on your own thanks again.
@@MoBay876rc No worrys mate! Don't search for traxxas bearings though because you'll get ripped off. Search for 606z metal shield bearings. 6mm x 17mm x 6mm. I got about 8 for less than £5 off ebay. They're exactly the same. Here's the item number for the ones I got.. 261833529857

Coz I’m about to order a new one 2085X..thanks in advance 🙏
Is that a hole in the top of your water proof box or just an illusion in the video? A lot of guys like the stock tires because it allows for more stunts.. but yeah.. they blow up lol. 100% agree the servo and ESC suck on these trucks.. great input!
No hole in the box lol the esc and servo are junk I know people that never even ran in water one time and they both went bad on them but one thing I can say it's a great basher
have bought a new servo, savox black 50kg, i would never take mine in muddy water like that and i never spin on the spot, i race it around tracks, so my esc and tyres have lasted ok, i do have loads of spares tho like max 5 and 800kv plus spurs and pinions and body parts and as much green alloy as i could get, think ive spent about $1700 on spares in the 2 months ive owned it, lol
