Neat! I wonder if something like this was used back in the day when power in factories was provided to machines not by electricity but by belts connected to a central rotating shaft.

Alternatively, an Escapement Air Cylinder can do this mechanisms hold release motion and is an off the shelf item.

Is the orange cam offset from the jade cam by 180°?

It's 175 deg. The grooves on the two cams are not the same.
