I'm still down for the Galvatron repaint, because it's an all-time great colour scheme. I do think that they should at least have included the little dagger gimmick tho
Megatron's horns being removable is actually a thing that would be accurate with Galvatron repaint, as in the final episode Prime ripped them off and used them as blades to try and kill Megs.
Hey guys so there is a upgrade kit for this toy, so basically it's a new shoulder piece where obviously you have to do some disassembly, to install the new shoulder piece. So what it does is that it gives the toy the ability to move his arms back, and forth, or to moves his arms a complete 360°.
Eh, don't worry about the lack of minicon. If the new Hot Shot figure is anything to go off of, they'll just repaint this guy as Galvatron with Leader-1 and suck you in to buy the same figure again.
Anime Armada Galvatron: Jaded despot with a warrior's heart thats ashamed of himself buried deep inside. Game Armada Megatron: Ruthless warrior who would literally rather die than owe a debt to his nemesis.
Excellent review, as always! Thank you! Yeah, I had the Galvatron version of the original mould, and really, all it needed was proper knee and ankle articulation to make it one of the Top 10 Best Transformers figures of all time. Maybe Hasbro's waiting to release Mini-Con sets for the Unicorn Trilogy figures, I dunno, but this is yet another figure that SHOULD have come with a Mini-Con.
Thank you, RU-vid, for just notifying me that this was uploaded in the last three hours, even though I already watched it and commented on it two days ago!
3:37 I was totally going to ask about that sliding up button thingy! It totally looks like it could slide up! Thanks for confirming that it doesn't. Also, I have my own Mayhem Donatello naginata pointing thing like you have, hehe
I think this figure was made for someone like me, which is a bit of a mistake on Hasbro’s part. Prefer the more modern engineering, the most gimmick heavy figure I’d pick up is a movie verse leader. However, that means I never really cared for the Armada design in the first place. It’s a bit weird for Hasbro to bring back versions of characters and get rid of almost all of what made the fans of that version like them.
Cracking breakdown! See, I love the design, but would have loved the original as a kid. Now though, I can get the design without breaking the bank AND with articulation! So I'm in that very small niche group that maybe this was designed for? Or like you said, maybe I just hated the original design?! 😂
@@Nediablo Most people said similar things about the Prime and Animated figures, however it was a harder thing to explain as the things “missing” were aesthetic features which aren’t as easily quantified.
The best way to improve this figure is just throw Fasttrack at him, he's a little buggy guy that has some orange and gray, so it's close enough to me. You can stick half of him on each of Megatrons shoulders to mimic the minicon, put Fasttrack's torso on the tank mode to mimic the ramp of the original, and most importantly, give Megatron his knife back.
In a lot of cases, I feel like the old figures would not be worth it for me after either the higher secondhand cost of a complete, well taken care of copy, or several junkers and replacement accessories pulled together, not to mention shipping. Even if they're diluted on features, I usually pick the new ones for the sake of articulation. I'm boring like that. (Also, new ones can go on sale for holidays and clearance.) Small quibbles with the new guy like the lack of knife and Leader-1 may get patched by upgrade kits if they're that bothersome, or even by future official releases if Powerlinx Jolt is anything to go by. I think there is a Galvatron listing coming, so I may just wait a year for that. Speaking of incomplete Megatrons, there are 3d print files online for the original guy, including replacement horns, the weird calf prison thing, missiles, and even a whole Leader-1.
Great review as always. Slightly surprised at the more downer tone, was thinking it would be closer to Ultimate Primal but still I can totally understand the view points….and they really did keep the worst gimmick lol.
I've been waffling back and forth on this figure a lot recently, and your video has helped me make a decision... to track down an Original Armada Megatron. Cost a lot more money, but this design really is boosted by the gimmicks
Got this guy a month or so ago, but couldn't take it out of the box yet because of house sorting stuff. In another two months, I might get the chance to enjoy it once that stuff is done.
Always loved this design and I think it's a great update! He's the same stag beetle headed monster but would you prefer gimmicks or articulation? Now we can choose! The cartoon may have been god awful but the Armada designs are a perfect balance between looking like a transformer and an anime edge lord. This Megatron nails both. Great review!
That face-plate slider being not quite all the way up bugs me way more then it should. Wish it was all the way up or down but other then that I’m really looking forward to this thing.
Legacy Armada Prime does a better job at updating the old toy to modern standards while still keeping some gimmicks from the old. Megatron still looks pretty amazing but Prime looks like on a whole other level.
Being able to compare a new version of a Transformer with the original, based on objectivity and not nostalgia, was bound to happen with newer Transformers.
Owning the original and not having the extra money right now to pick it up, I'm a bit upset. I miss the gimmicks from the Armada days, but I'm glad they've upped the engineering budget for the guy. My original Armada Megatron would still go "decepTICONS Ataaaacccckkkk-" when you turned the turret, up to late 2022, when I removed the batteries from a lot of those older toys that I had (except for FOC Grimlock and Darth Vader Deathstar bot, who's screws stripped the moment I looked at them :/ ). Love the fella and hope we get a commander Tidalwave for that fun gimmick. Regardless, can't wait to pick up my own, can't wait to have Armada Prime and Megatron next to Armada Prime and Megatron, LOL
Fun fact: the turret’s articulation is designed SPECIFICALLY so you can’t make a dick! And while normally I’d hate that, for some reason I find it hysterical that they took money to do that.
Great review. Never had any of the Armada toys. The line was a mix for me. Some looked great, others seemed to be a brick with arms and gimmicks attached. Even the minicons seemed to be an add-on. Still a great review though.
For me as a fan of the Armada the anime series but not Armada the toyline the new figure is 99% better minus the tank tower not spinning full 180 degrees. It looks like his design in the show, the old one doesn't, that's all there is to it.
Now I'm not a paid toy designer (which I hafta assume is an oversight on their part, and I can be expecting my check in the mail any day now..), but it looks to me that they wasted too much plastic and ingenuity on making the chest plate that way, instead of just doing what they did with the original. I can think of a few different ways of doing that, myself, without wasting so much. I mean, I'm not gonna tell _you,_ but I can think of some.
I got that sexy Armada prime on preorder. Fun story about the original Armada Prime, a friend of mines methed out ex-wife broke his over his back in a heated argument.
But Gavin, why can't you have fun, and judge things for what they are, instead of always comparing of what has been? Heh? How does it feel to be on the other side for once?
It has updated articulation, that seems like a worthy reason for the figure to exist to me. It can do more than stand there and have its gimmicks activated.
As someone who’s first toyline was Armada & who just picked up this Megs the other day, I’m all here for the lack of gimmicks. They hamstrung the toys as much as made them fun, and a lot of the spring loaded ones failed over the last two decades - leading to floppy toys with limp guns & bits that just don’t work right & make you question even owning them in the first place I’ve been loving all the UT updates in legacy, even with the loss of gimmicks
@@EclipseAtDusk didn’t grow up with armada myself but I completely agree with you. These updates are great and while the original toys are fun, their flaws are evident, as repeatedly pointed out in TJOmega’s plastic addict series for example
i think this one is the better *action figure* while the original is the better *toy.* if you want something fun with a lot of play features get the original, but if you want an articulated, accurate looking figure of this design, get legacy.
Yes, orginal Megatron was packed with stuff, for less the price of the new, who offers nothing. Playability is zero to none. Magatron armada is my favorite Megatron , and i missed the original one. I was skeptic on legacy one, because, let's be honest , Legacy collection is ore miss then hits flooded with excuses. I got this megatron and.... he has a bunch of hole ports , but he has nothing to do ... at all, besides the cannon and the "evo fusion". He is not worth the price, the engineering is not complex at all to justified that. Now, those punch things that came with Blitzwing, i had them stored , because they are useless...but, at least they packed something more on the package. This to say i am using them on megatron, and have done some interesting configurations with those. But as he is, is boring. unless you have stuff to add with him.
