I love this mold. I get the problems with the gun mode, something that stems from a time when these were just toys without a story or character attached to them. Growing up my friends and I liked to shoot each other with toy guns, the more realistic the better. Those days were long gone by the time we got to Classics Megs, but as a fictional weapon, I think it is a cool design that gives a really nice robot mode. The purple and green are perfect for a Decepticon leader, but for those jonesing for the classic colors, Takara gave us that option too.
So glad you had nice things to say about this dude. Always wanted him as a kid, recently bought and wasn't disappointed in the slightest. Excellent review!
I wanted G1 Megatron as a kid. That's why I snapped this one up back when I seen it new in the store. I almost didn't buy it because of the colors but, then I thought "What if they sale them all and don't get anymore back in?" So I grabbed it and yeah...the colors are a disapointment but, he grows on you anyway. He still looks as scary as G1 cartoon Megatron and that's why I had to have him!
I really enjoyed this figure when it came out, but the Takara "Henkei" version in the classic Megatron colours was just stellar. Very fun toy, but even leaving personal safety issues aside, it just makes NO sense to have the leader of the bad guys fling himself at nearby ally, transform, and shrink down into an immobile handheld firearm for said ally to fire. That makes him a Targetmaster; G1 Megatron is a flippin' Targetmaster. Now a massive, self-propelled tank -- THAT makes sense for the top baddie!
One of my all time Faves!! I love the robot mode. The 'wings' just look like some kind of cape to me. Gives him a total Emperor Megatron vibe. This is my premiere Megatron, the one that sits on my shelf dedicated to Decepticon Leaders. Great Review!! There is a functioning nerf-gun like KO transformer on Aliexpress currently that does what you mention wanting this one to.
I haven’t thought of jolly rancher megatron in years! I remember my parents not liking that THAT was the transformer I was going to bring for our flight. If TSA couldn’t stop me so how could they? Probably helped that I was like...9
Great to see some love for this version of Megs! Back in 2015 at my second (and most recent Botcon), I managed to snag this guy for myself. Well, first I snagged his Japanese release, where he's all decked out in chrome, and actually looks sliiiightly more like a real gun. I thought, "Yeah, that'll do." When, in my heart, I truly yearned for the American Nerf version. Then, as my lil bro and I were about to leave for the day, I found the American lad. The fella selling him was cool enough to trade the Japanese version for him. I remember he was confused why I wanted to trade. Like, bro, what's not to love about a Megatron that becomes a bright, silly Nerf gun? 😁
Actually, yeah, real Nerf gun! The Maverick, used to play with it a lot as a youngin. Hey, whatyaknow, Maverick ended up the name as that TF Top Gun crossover thing. Oh yeah, good review! I've always kinda wanted this Megatron. Repugnus is killing it at the Piano.
@@TRDQ Grotusque: You called it Monsterbot Theatre? Repugnus: Yeah. Twinferno: Awesome, Gavin will finally give us some spotlight. Repugnus: Oh... No, no, it's just... it's just me. I'm the only Monsterbot that matters.
I know 90s Megs was a tank in some incarnations but I still hate that modern Hasbro won’t turn him into a fucking gun for their line. But I get it. Just frustrating
Well... Wierd but still a dicent figure... Plus if anything he at least stand out thanks to his "GUN MODE" and to be honest.. It looks better them either G1 or G1 Masterpiece. At least in my opinion....
