Just stopping by to let you know how much I enjoyed Treasures In Lockdown and watching you bimbling about the bottle dump. To the young mudlarks, seeing you takes me back to my childhood rockhunting, and finding fossils on a fishing trip. I took a few to a rock shop and the shop owners were ecstatic. Unfortunately the fossils are long gone because my parents moved; they'd been stored in our basement. It was delightful to see your excitement and sweetness as you showed off your finds! Thank you Nicola for coming up with the idea and giving them the opportunity to share their moments of history hunting with us! Take care- love and respect from Montana! P.S.- I love the postcards and old adverts too. Thinking about the people in the photos chokes me up.. thank you for sharing those moments with us too.

My heart is always touched when I see old photos! I find myself wondering who they were and how they spent their lives. It’s so heartbreaking to know they are missing pieces to a family history. I recently was given a copy of a portrait of my great grandfather who had built a little chest I’ve had handed down to me. It’s like finding a missing puzzle piece. Thank you for sharing!

18:21 I have a friend that owns a pipe shop and he told me that the type of clay pipe you found was used in the pubs back in the day. It started off with a long stem (nearly a foot) and the bartender would give it to the person who smoked a bowl, then after each smoke they would break off a small length of the stem, once it got down to the size you found they would toss it out.

Was the tip re-dipped in red wax as well, to stop the pipestem sticking to their lips? Most pipes clogged up after only one use, so it must have been quite wide. Fascinating history.

15:59 I found a source about it. Brom Nervacit was a strong sedativum used in the german Wehrmacht field hospitals during WW II. This medicine was adminstered against nervous deseases, insomnia and epilepsy. Worst case you could become bromine addict. The common dosis was 1 - 2 tablespoons a day. I think it was produced in Wiesbaden by the pharmacist Adam Herbert.

The jug with the Gilbert verse on it was made in the Devon (Torquay) potteries, probably around c1900, and I would guess from the colour of the glaze, possibly from the Aller Vale factory. The mottoes are often misquotes (I suspect they were inscribed from memory), and sometimes featured bucolic phrases and puns - they were the sort of thing you bought at the seaside for a few pence and took home as a present for your nan, usually bearing phrases such as 'A present from Minehead' or the like.. I love this stuff, and have quite a large collection of pieces, dating from about 1880-1954.

Great wildlife and music and finds and clean up and research, Lovely Nicole! I remember when I was a wee one, there was Rinso Blue, wash blue. The same company and I think these products last longer in rural areas as opposed to cities. These old items and old photos I've always Loved. My Grandfather sold $10 worth of Larkins soap and received a camera, tripod and all the things needed to develop your own photos. He was 12 at the time so this would have been 1904. I have the camera and many of his photos. When we find these old things, old photos, news papers, pottery and bottles, it reminds us that life should be taken in, every minuet. All those lives gone before us and we wonder how they lived, what they thought and their joys and worries. In actually, I believe they were the same as ours are today. Perhaps they didn't worry about fixing their auto or TVs but nevertheless the same as we are today. As long as I can remember, I be in the midst of a wonderful time with friends or family or exploring Nature and realizing how golden this moment is. I look back on times with Grandparents and Family, Friends, Pets and those passed and feel blessed and privileged to have had these experiences. Seize the day, the hour the moment, because they go so quickly. Just when you talked about 100 years from now and what will the Larkers find,it was my thought just before you mentioned it. Plastics and more. But I suppose people will be wondering just as we do today about how we lived and our feelings and families. I think of all those many lives that that dump represents, all the many years and stories buried there. All their lives as important and as significant as ours seem to be now. So love each second with the Joy of Spirits that we are. Love, Light, Peace, Joy and Kind Thanks Nicole! DaveyJO in Pa.

Just at the moment you mentioned about finding our current trash compared to what you were digging up, I was thinking that exact thing. While I’ll never find your glorious bottles, coins or clay pipes, I do think about the plastics that will be our history. Thank you, dear heart, for sharing your lovely life’s hobby/job/art with those of us who just wish we could. Take care. ❤️

Galloways cough mixture was always my first choice, the children loved the taste, but sadly no longer made, would love to have found this as a reminder of times gone by. Keep up the great work, in this time many peoples only access to the out doors is by you and people like you, sharing. thanks again

So many things to find in the huge bottle dump Nicola! I would have been disappointed if there was no pipe find. I remember my Mum using Rinso washing powder. We had Rinso in Australia until the 70's. I love the word bimbling. 😁❤
