In May of 2022 I was fortunate enough to meet up with New York bottle digging experts Scott Jordan, Belle Costes and Alex. They have been exploring New York City’s history for decades, searching in landfills, construction sites, shorelines, creek, marsh beds, privy vaults and cisterns. They are also artists and historians, creating art and jewelry from what they find. I was able to discover their wonderful collection of treasures and artwork and Im delighted to be able to share that with you here.
Belle and Scott sell their bottles and jewelry at the Grand Bazaar NYC flea market on Sundays.
77th Street and Columbus Avenue in New York City.
You can find out more here at Scott and Belle's website
www.thingsfound...
They are also on instagram @greybeardboy and @girlfindstreasure
I had a wonderful time with them and cant wait to go back for another visit.
Thank you for watching. You can follow me on twitter and instagram @tidelineart
See you soon.

History is everywhere, right under our feet! My son, when he was a pre-schooler, used to pretend to be a paleontologist digging up dinosaur bones. One day, he came to me to say he'd found one. I went along with his role-playing, until he pulled out of the ground, right next to our 90-year-old house, an actual, large bone! What a thrill for him, even when I let him know that it was probably from a horse or cow. Three-year-olds don't care about such petty details.

Another wonderful Sunday with Nicola! I particularly like old bottles. There was a bottle dump in the woods behind the house I lived in as a child. I was always bringing home old bottles.. Thank goodness my parents were supportive. The bottles were from the 1910's through 1940's. Also, marbles, porcelain dolls, shards of cups, plates, vases, etc. Scott and Belle's bottle filled home just made my day. What a fun. Thanks for taking us on your adventures.

What a wonderful time you had in New York! You met so many wonderful people and did so many fun things. What a lovely crew Scott, Belle and Alex are! They seemed so willing to invite you in and share their knowledge and their treasures. They showed their dig spot, explained how it worked and let you have at it. And you got right in there with your trowel and knocked their socks off! You were pulling out fantastic things immediately! That apartment! The amount of glass and pottery is just incredible. It’s truly a mini-museum. Scott’s paintings knocked my socks off and Belle is just the sweetest woman - I love that her favorite piece in her whole collection is the little lamp that matches Scott’s. BECAUSE it matches Scott’s! 🥰 Alex is such a funny, interesting guy who truly seems to march to his own drummer and he’s perfectly happy to bring you along and loan you a drumstick. He seemed like a giving soul who wanted to be helpful and be sure you had a great time. And I think he succeeded with the help of Scott and Bella and that bottle pit!

Oh Nicola, you really are living the dream of every fossiking mudlarker, beachcomber and treasure hunter. Thank you for recording your adventures so we can follow along. I had NO idea there were beaches and woods near New York. I’m hoping you can bring all your treasures home, I’m assuming you took an empty suitcase with you in preparation….. your colonial friends were so generous with their time and treasures AND their secret spots. So special. You got excited about a milk bottle the way I suspect the way they would get excited about a paste jar or bovril jar in England. Great video, thanks again. I watch these whilst making soap and candles in my little shop, inspiring.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌟🌟🌟😊

Hi, Nicola. Susan from Shelburne here. I looked up your Milkweed cream family, and fell down the proverbial rabbit hole! I believe Frances Ingram is simply an adopted name, but Frederick Fremont Ingram was indeed president of Frederick F. Ingram Company of Detroit. However, he was much more! Born in Michigan in 1856, his father was a well to do farmer. He lost his mother when aged 13, and was educated as a chemist. He worked for the Millborn and Williamson Chemical Company, eventually buying the company in 1892. That was the same year there was a terrible fire, and much of the building (employing 60 people, mostly women and girls) was destroyed. Ingram had married Laura Mayo in 1888, had Fred, Jr., in 1890 and son Mayo in 1893. Sadly, Mayo died of meningitis at age 5. Surprisingly, Ingram's obituary listed his greatest claim to fame as "the father of the American Parcel Post System", a need he saw and took up with the federal government in Washington. He ran for mayor of Detroit in 1914, and after retirement, moved to Dan Diego and founded the Ingram Institute of Social Science. He left the institute money, but unfortunately (after 4 years in probate) it was found he didn't actually have the money he thought he had. He was a fascinating man, and worth the Google! Thanks!

Hello Nicola, I am so happy that you had such a good experience in New York. I enjoyed watching you pull out so many bottles from those ashes.I used to help my mom hunt for morels in the middle of April. The larger ones are tough and not even fit for human consumption. Anyway, again so glad you had such a good time here in the States. Greetings from North Carolina U.S.A.

it's nice to see people respecting nature.leave no trace is always my policy.once you realise how interconnected this ecosystem actually is,maybe they would show some respect for the animals and plants.used to go bottle digging when I was younger.my grandad taught me well.May your digs bear the fruits of history.maddog.West cork.republic of Ireland

@@nicolawhitemudlark Hi Nicola , I am sorry you had a break cleaning the Dr Grace bottle . By a lot of trial, and much error , I have found the best way of cleaning my bottles is rinsing with warm soapy water to get as clean as possible...no brushes , then for the stubborn stuff fill with a spoonful of laundry oxygen powder and hand hot water only . Let it fizz until cool then rinse and repeat . I have been able to clean really badly stained bottles doing this . Just make sure you can still put your hand in the water to make sure it is not too hot. It works a treat for pottery etc too . I cannot tell you just how much I enjoy your videos , they are worth every minute of your patience of researching fitting music and all the editing . Thank you Nicola ❤

What a wonderful day out! Coal ash seems easy digging compared to mud. The pipe stem frames and the art so cool. Have you ever seen stems used that way? I imagine they would flatter a piece like the pin girl you made, as well as the fine paintings.
