Treatment for sour crop and a Natural Remedy for Impacted Crop in Chickens 

This literally cured my 10 week old Easter Egger pullet Olive! One dose! I had been praying scriptures over her, (yes I believe that Jesus cares for all of His creation) and treating her for weeks, when the Lord led me to this recipe! Thank you so much!!!

1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp chili powder, 1/2 tsp ginger powder, 1/2 tsp Baking Soda, 2 Tlbs water, squirt of Lemon Juice.

Thanks for the videos! I check the girls' crops every night and morning on the roost, at the first sign of full or half full crop in the morning, I massage the crop gently for a minute or so, check again that night, massage gently, usually the crop is empty the next morning. I've had one sour crop and one impacted crop the first year I had them, since I've began checking morning and night, I've never had another issues with this. Checking their crops is also good to make sure they are eating every day. Mine all quit eating when they are molting, I then give live meal worms, hamburger, BOSS to keep their strength up. I had one quit eating, I could not figure out why. This went on for a week or so with me feeding her high protein soft foods and mashed sweet potato. She began to slow down. I finally found a dark purple area on her belly, hot to the touch, I think it was some type of infection. I gave her a bath in Epsom salts that night, the next day it was lighter and every day after that it was lighter, till it was gone. I would not have known she had an issue right away without checking crops. She was fine after this. Also, when my birds got struck with scaly leg mites, once again, they quit eating, with no outward issues that I could see right away. out came the sweet potato and meal worms, scrambled eggs and cottage cheese to keep them eating something, until I could figure out what was wrong. I finally figured out the scaly leg mite issue and treated them for that. Usually the first sign that something is wrong can be found by checking their crops (morning and night). I understand if you have alot of chickens this is probably not feasible. But if yours are pets like mine (I've got 5) why not check? It has saved my girls many times.

My chicken had the same but I gave her water and Olive oil with a dropper and massaged her , tipped her upside down and she immediately threw up globs of straw and a whole bunch other stuff. It works great!

This works !!! My hen had a severe compaction, after 3 days the crop became soft and squishy, I purged her as recommended on day 2 with some fluid being excreted, on day 3 the crop seemed even more watery, purged again a few times and there must have been at least a cup full of fluid excreted. I am confident that my hen will now be on the road to full recovery. Thank you.😊

I'm dealing with crop issues on a very old and frail hen. Mathilda is twelve yrs old (Japanese Silkie). I found her yesterday with an impacted crop and she couldn't stand. I've used a little homeopathic remedy which helps pain and inflammation, massaging her crop gently, fed her a raw egg yolk with a pinch or two of colostrum after the crop softened for nourishment. This morning I gave her 2ml water with five drops of lemon, a pinch of cayenne pepper and bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) each, fed it drop by drop, very slowly so as not to drown her and gave her time to swallow and deal with it before the next drop or two. I offered a little homemade apple sauce and cooked oats that I'd strained which she took a few beak fulls. This afternoon I took her outside and weak as she is, she enthusiastically went for chickweed and young cabbage leaves which I figure is what she needs most (nature knows), I allowed her a little bit of sunflower with very fine corn, offered her some pink grit too and she pecked up a few. Her eating adventure was just to let her taste, have a bit of sunshine and say hi to the other hens. I've given her more of the water, lemon, baking soda and cayenne mix (2ml) and added a few drops of olive oil. I'll see how she is in the morning. We're having a lot of rain and cool weather so she's will stay in the house for a few days until she's well. Crop issues are the pits and I'm just glad that it looks like this old girl will make it. It's so sad losing the battle against crop illness.

I am so impressed that Penny is such a calm hen, wow! And since I am new to the chicken world, had no idea that their crops could become impacted. This has to be helpful to the new or not so new chicken keeper, thanks for the info.

My girls had horrible cases of sour crop and this cleared it right up. The chickens even liked the taste! Truly a miracle elixir

I used this recently and it seems to have helped. I even put the leftover in the water container so the others can have it as a bit of a tonic. They all seem happy and I’m sure it helped 👍 thanks for sharing

Thank you so much for sharing your cure recipe, I will try this too, my hen suffers with that since a while. I have tried so much h (all natural) and she keeps living. But I long for her to be free from this impact whatever it is. So I will also pray and try out your idea. :)

Going to try this! Just got baby chicks and one seems to have an impacted or sour crop as it's not emptying completely. Tried the water and olive oil which helped but didn't fully take care of it, will make this tonight and give to her!

Why baking soda and lemon juice? The baking soda will neutralize the acidity of the lemon juice. Is it to produce gas?

Hi.... I have been going crazy with what is wrong with my Rhode Island Red named One Feather. She started on staying on the roost and not coming down when I came in with some treats. Two days later I noticed her just laying on the floor (puffed up) and not really moving around. Then I started to get really worried. I brought her in the house and placed in her a spare bedroom where it is not heated much. In a raised crate. I went from is she broody? Then I picked her up and noticed on the right side of her Brest area a egg/golf sized ball... which led me to research on blocked crop. (I had never heard of this, course I am a chicken owner of 1.5 years). I tried to give her syringes full of water.. got gator ade in her water dish. I am so glad I came across your video and praying you might be able to help me. I'm worried her health is starting to deteriorate. Thank you.

I have a rooster who went off his feed and was swollen in his crop area. I rubbed it and milking his crop with him upside down and got some liquid out but could feel stringy stuff inside. So I put him in the "ER cage" and fed him only butter. Had no coconut oil. And cool water. Nothing else for three days. His crow returned to normal. No more gargling. And two months later he is fine.

I have a buff Brahma hen who I have been treating for 24 hours with olive oil and plenty of water, I’ve got her to regurgitate the liquids but nothing else comes out, so I’m pretty sure she has an impacted crop. I’m so happy to have found your video because I will try that today. Since I work in the operating room with humans every day my next step was to perform surgery at home on her crotch, I’ll try this first hopefully it works and I don’t have to cut her. But at this point I love my feather babies and would do anything for them.

This hen, Penny, is so wonderful. Is she still with you today? My flock has dwindled through the years, only have 3 of my originals. They all died of various causes. I've gotten through crop issues and it's a great feeling to succeed, but it doesn't always. I'm working on one right now, and the doughy ball is so stubborn. I've used Nystatin, to no avail. I'm tubefeeding fluids and massaging, but I've never seen anything like this. 3 weeks of this. This all started towards the end of a molt. She's always been down during a molt, but this time it's just getting the best of her. Maybe her age. I've not used chili powder for this mix, so will try it. She's hungry, but I just can't allow her to eat, so I grind her pellets to powder and tubefeed her. She passes liquidy poop, but at least things are passing. I've started her on Metronidazole 250mg 1 a day. This did produce a couple small solid poops, but throught the day mostly watery. I'm stumped. Tomorrow I'll be using this concoction 3X a day and will just continue till something gives. Thanks for sharing your experience and Henny Penny with us.

So, Im a little confused. I get that you were giving very samll amounts of the elixir at a time in order to avoid aspersrion. But how much were you giving in total? Also, did you do it only once or is the process reapeated for a could days?

It'd be helpful to know what Lisa did once Bubba fell over dead in case it happens to me when I start trying this remedy. My hen's had sour crop 3 or 4 days now. I vomited her according to other videos to relieve pressure, massaged with coconut oil, gave yogurt and pears mostly, & water. The upchuck was slimy green goo with some scratch grains and reeked. The crop is soft and watery inside with what feels like gravel. I really can't feel anything like a mass, or large and stringy, but the crop won't deflate much. She does the chicken disco dance and burps. So I want to try the concoction. I don't have any edible Monostat available. If she falls over like Bubba did (maybe his airway was instructed by the mass?) what's my next move? How did he vomit if chickens don't have a gag reflex? Did Lisa do anything like invert him or massage the crop while administering the oral mixture? Did he fall over and immediately stuff came out and she grabbed it and began pulling it? Did she blow air into his nostrils, or turn him upside down and spank him to get the breathing going again, lol? Thanks in advance for the clarifications and for this remedy. Hope it works!

What Monistat are you referring to? Is this a special Monistat for internal use you can get at Tractor Supply or another store? Or are you literally talking about 7 day Monistat cream they sell at Walgreens for women? Thank you! I'm in dire need of info- I have a very sick chicken w/sour crop- we've evacuated the crop but it keeps filling up with fluid. We've also treated with Epson Salt/Water solution and ACV/Water solution- she is pooping some at night, but still not coming out of her near coma state- as she will not open her eyes- we are having to do this with a tube down her throat! Wow I can't thank you enough for posting this I have a baby cockatiel that I have been feeding since he hatched out of an egg. He has sour crop from I think giving him antibiotics in his food for too long. I do this to keep my baby birds from developing 2nd dairy infections when hand feeding them. It never crossed my mind that he could get sour crop from the antibiotics. Do you have any idea how much I should give a baby cockatiel? I was thinking maybe an 1/8 of a tsp twice a day. I found out that an antifungal medicine called nystatin is suppose to cure it. Plus I would have to have it shipped to me that's more time and money. Its expensive and this baby probably won't make it much longer without some kind of cure. If he makes it at all. Thank you

My chicken was found hanging from her foot on a piece of twine yesterday ...she is now drinking by syringe every hour and she is still holding her mouth open like she is thirsty but her crop is a little bloated. Do you think these things could be related?

My 8 wk old Isa Brown is suffering from what I believe to be impacted crop, I’ve isolated her and withheld food, tried yogurt, done the massaging with mineral oil, emptied her crop, added apple cider vinegar to her water. She’s still pooping and drinking some but she’s not getting any better, :( it’s been 3 weeks and I’m about to try this mixture. Wish me luck😭

What is the dosage? At one point you said 1/2 ml but you said as much as you could get in. I have a hen with a huge crop and I am nervous.

Hi there, please when you were treating Penny for impacted crop, did you vomit her after giving the mixture ty..I’ve tried the monostat treatment that you did for the sour crop, but it hasn’t worked. Now my girls crop has gone from a water balloon to feeling like mouldable putty.
