I got my Treehopper back from Mark with a couple of changes. Longer handle, new spring and different bit (I think).
So I tried it out on a tree where I was having failure a couple weeks ago. It worked perfectly. It drills easy with very little resistance. In fact, it engages so easily that I think it’s not engaged. You’ll see me continue to regrip the collar to maintain downward pressure (toward the tree) thinking it isn’t yet engaged. It spins easy and pulls out easily. Grab some popcorn and enjoy the show.

What size are the bolts?

6' long. 3/8". Make sure you use grade 8 bolts.

Have you tried Cranford EZ steps? My friends and I have been using them for our saddle hunting set ups for 9+ years now for hang and hunts. I can easily fit a dozen in a fanny pack (20 plus feet in a tree). Its very easy to screw them in with one hand. One trip up and one trip down is why we have always liked them over sticks with much less bulk. The points on the steps have very sharp and aggressive threads that are easy to start in hardwood trees. They are case hardened as well so they don't dull.

I have. I sweat my tail off putting those in and most people don't realize that if you don't get them all the way in so that the corner of the step is against the tree they can snap under your weight. I find them hard to get all the way in as they get hung up on bark unless you have the perfect angle from the start. Hard to do. Bolts are lighter and cheaper and quieter.

i totally agree with u..ezy steps are by far the bet on the market...and i have tried everyone known to man..the ezy steps go in any trre with no efforet..im right handed and cant do shit with my left hand and in the dark hanging on a tree no problem at all screwing them in any tree..i even hunt off them sumtimes with a saddle...only thing with them if u drop one or sumhow dull the point the throw it out cause it will never be like it was..
