I have the same set up and love the bike. Good video

Just got one. Came off a Ridley Noah fast and swapped my DA Di2 11s front and rear derailleurs, 11s disc shifters and 9270 calipers. Gained 3mph on my average speed, massively improved stopping power from rim brakes. And for some reason *I think it's the stability,* I feel confident enough to ride this bike with no hands. Not something I do often at all but I just felt the Noah fast was way too sensitive to steering inputs. The one thing I hated about this bike was the seatpost clamp. Binded and would have to remove cones every time I wanted to adjust the tilt of the saddle. Fix: lil teentzy weentzy bit of park tool anti-seize in the seatpost holes/cups tighten to no less than 14nm. I weigh 225lbs and saddle hasn't budged with anti-seize. Now I adore everything about this bike.

I just upgraded from a Domane AL3 to an Emonda SL5 that I got for half off on close out. To me, it feels like a rocket ship

What year sl5 did you get? I waited from summer 2020 till 2022 when I gave up on upgrading to that model. If they're going for that cheap I may have to take a look again.

My 2020 sl6(previous generstion) with wheels/stem/aero bars, lightweight chain and full ultegra mechanical is 17lbs flat. Rides like a dream. I test rode the latest model year and didn’t like it at all compared to my older one.

Emonda owner here albeit the ALR5. Once I got used to it and replaced the wheels I found the speed issues went away, Yes disc brakes are heavier but in terms of cost vs. weight it didn’t make sense to jump up one level to the lower end carbon with 105 or mechanical Ultegra.

It definitely isn’t slow! I think it’s rapid. It just feels slow because it’s so stable 😎

I'm a big proponent of spend money to save money with most things and I'm contemplating doing that with a bike purchase too. In your opinion is it worth it to pay the premium for the SLR level packages? For notes I'm not a racer, don't plan on becoming a racer anytime soon, but I do love riding as fast as possible and putting the bike in the car and going to nearby mountain roads to enjoy the scenery and hit the climbs. I'm not obsessed with numbers so being 15 seconds faster over 40 mins or something like that means nothing to me. I'm just worried that the difference in frame will lead to difference in ride feel, mainly the responsiveness to power and "fun" to ride factor. I'm looking at a difference of just under 4000 USD. It's just a 700g difference for the total package but idk how the ride differs.

@Josh_lewis Год назад
In short, no, it’s not worth it. The other packages are class as well and a fellow pro has the non SLR version and it has many of the same characteristics and it’s amazing. The weight and carbon layup are the main differences but for what you’re explaining above you will still get plenty of enjoyment and responsiveness from the non SLR 🙌🏻

Yea get your point, my beemer feels a lot slower at the legal speed limit ahem than my mini 😎 Mini is a lot of fun though 😉
@Josh_lewis
@Josh_lewis 2 года назад
Haha agreed! I much prefer being a bit more stable when I don’t have a metal box around me to protect me though 😂 mountain bikers can have that fun in the mud, I’m currently preferring the stability on the tarmac. Completely get your point though

I think it feels slow because you have too high expectations on this bike. I have an 2021 Emonda SLR 6 ( mechanical Ultegra ), and its a beast. Still heavier than the previous Emondas, I wish I had rim brakes
@thomascoder9839

with rim brakes the emonda slrs would be amazing
@Josh_lewis

I didn’t really over expect, it’s simply just the stability and comfort that if gives. It’s certainly the fastest (bar TT bike) bike that I’ve ridden for sure! Really rate it

2:07 - You mentioned "old Madone", how old? Disc Brake Madone? Rim Brake Madone? 2016 rim brake Madone? 2012 rim brake Madone? (rear brake under bottom bracket).

Is the base Madone sluggish? Not the one with the funny hovering seat post but the one before with Isospeed
@Josh_lewis

It’s rapid in a straight line but I’d say pretty poor for cornering. Two reasons, it was a fair bit heavier, and the brakes were terrible

Spent about 500 miles on it and so far so good. ru-vid.comUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA Pros:1. Very light2. Solid quality build3. Fast delivery: It arrived 5 weeks earlier than expected.4. Easy assemblyJust a few cons but nothing major:1. Cheap tin tubes and had flat on first day... but not a big deal. I replaced the tubes.2. Seat is a bit uncomfortable but that's pretty much the same situation with most bikes.3. Seat post is a bit long/high for a smaller size 48 bike - had to saw 2 inch off to fit properly. The lowest setting is too high. The post locking system does not seem to hold well (perhaps because I saw 2 inch off).4. wheels are not tubeless compatible (from what I can tell)

My commuter is a 9.6 kg base level allez. I’d *kill* to have a bike like this for long rides and steep climbs! (Sorry Ivy, I love you to the moon and back darling, but you’re a workhorse, not a race horse…)
