Always surprised that bike owners don’t give their bikes a basic clean before they give them to you.

The person that washes their bike is usually not a customer who'll pay a shop for a service
@Bikespeeds
@Bikespeeds Год назад
Our philosophy is that unless the bike is spotless we’ll still have to do the exact same amount of cleaning, and if you’ve rebuilt it to the level of spotless there’s no point coming in. We love to see a dirty bike as it always makes for a better video!🧡

I'm just now finding your channel. As an aspiring bike and ski shop owner, I want to do maintenance like you do. It is better than any shop I've seen in my hometown, and you seem to really care about the client. Subscribed! And I hope to keep seeing more of this. Truly delightful.

Thanks for another good video. How do you prevent the sonic cleaner from damaging the anodising of the various components you put in it, what degreaser do you use and what do you use cleaner wise when washing off the sonic bath fluid with the scrubbing brush. Thanks
@Bikespeeds

We’ve not had problems, we use regular heavy duty degreaser and wash off with fairy liquid 🧡

That smear of copper slip on the brake pads... well worth it. My brakes seemed to be clunking...felt at the levers. It was the brake pads sticking on the piston. Smear of copperslip... and it's never done it since. As you say... don't go overboard, just a smear. Crackin job as usual.

what was the reason for replacing the brake lever, was it that it was at fault or did the system just need bleeding?

Love this vid, I'm currently building a souped up trek Marlin, I had the frame lying around, and I noticed it had a square taper bottom bracket too. I think it's just a think with pricing, however it was a plastic one and an absolute nightmare to get out because the splines were all shredded... Brrr, glad thats over

I have a 2009 Trek 4300 which was too small for a friend who purchased it as an impulse buy several years ago . I built him a Giant Yukon custom whereas the 4300 was rebuilt with high quality components . It rides like a dream now and looks great . It can be seen on Google images at Fulcher's Cyclery in Panania , Australia .

Wondering on some of these bikes you work on with the caked up gunk on the jockey wheels - do you ever suggest to your customers to try a different lube or to at least periodically clean the jockeys and chainring (I assume there might be a build up there as well)? Enjoy the videos, keep it up!

While the clutch does have an o ring seal on the cover and shaft, I have found they can let in water (I think via the shaft seal) which causes corrosion and in one case for the clutch to jam and need full disassembly and repair. Given that, I personally wouldn't immerse them in the ultrasonic.

Hi, a question, 6:09 why didnt you advise your customer to get rid of that square BB junk and replace with hollowtech or dub 1 with 1x crank? I mean this stuff is so old and so outdated then its pointless tomake those anymore. that tech is as old as dinosaours.
