The Trek US Postal OCLV - made famous by Lance Armstrong during his string of wins at the Tour de France starting in 1999.
We`ve already ridden this bike in a video last year but that was as a winter bike - in this video we take it from a winter hack to a stunning Summer ride with a full Dura Ace groupset and matching Trek Bontrager Race Light parts. The Trek OCLV loses almost a kilo in weight and looks stunning - just how a US Postal trek should look and feel - just check out the blue Race Lite wheels - epic!

What a bike for reasonable money people should look at new classics like this, well done Dan

Yep, too good for winter but they are bomb proof so lend themselves to bad roads in bad weather,,, Dan

Hey Dan , great catching your videos and this one being no exception. Was that Pinarello Banesto team bike a Pegoretti build ? Will be looking forward to your next video. All the best!

Yep, check through the preveous videos and you will find the `95 Banesto team bike ridden by Jose Jimenez and built by Pegoretti himself - and its quite something, Dan

53 tooth front crank ? You will end up with quads like a bodybuilder. Nice bike that. Thanks for posting

Yep, can be an issue with period builds - 53 big ring was the standard for many years - I often feel I`m letting the side down when I flirt with a 52... Dan

Nice bike,Dan! My buddy has the white version and I've ridden it a few times. Great bike. Was this the bike Alex used on the GCN video?

I`m rather partial to the silver/blue versions as well as the white, though can`t go wrong with the classic blue - yep, was up with Si and the GCN crew last week with the Yates 7-Eleven, this OCLV Trek and the Cavendish McClaren Venge (will do a video on that one at some point), Dan

Oh it was so hard to appreciate the other great bikes with Cav’s Venge there. But it’s great to see all these golden oldies in action. I liked the idea of the the Trek US Postal showing it’s DNA. today. 🤗

This is the first time I've ever heard about that lifetime guarantee on the frame, thank you for easing my nerves about the 2001 model I just purchased, the fact that nobody's brought one in for frame failure is quite comforting considering how old it is. Do you know if Trek offers any kind of examination or testing of the frame itself?

No idea on the testing - but I`d be very confident with one unless obvious signs of crash damage - as ever, inspect carefully... Dan

Quite hard to find one of these in a 56 or 58. Here in the UK anyway! I just got a 1997 5500 frame set in sweet condition so I am on the build! I noticed you went with the 1 inch to 1 1/8 threaded converter here Dan. Any reason? Did it ever have the quill when you got it? Great video too. Thanks 👍

This one would have had the 1" alloy quill when new - had been converted to ahead stem by the time I got hold of it so just stuck with it - thought about going the all alloy `99 route when I re-built it recently but then I`d miss out on all the racelite goodies.... Dan

These bikes always have had a bit of a Marmite feel to them. Great bike review and video, but the bike choice...... Back in 1999 I was loving these as they were "the latest new thing in tech" and are great machines. I had the 1999 Trek catalogue and would loved to have had the cash for one of these (or a Caad 6, or Bianchi Mega Pro....). Lance won the 1999 TdF on these and they started the trend on CF bikes........however.......... Back in 2000's I knew the riders were on the turbo juices, but there was something about Lance's arrogance and personality I didn't like. Big Mig had been aloof and impressive, the Kaiser had been the young upstart, the Pirate had been entertaining and explosive, the Texan...........obnoxious (in my opinion). And that as an outspoken spokes person for Trek, alienated me. I liked the tech, but it was only the Shlecks and Cancellera years later did I start to like Trek. The bike (OCLV, butted/lugged carbon construction, nice rear stay and the bended curves) I actually really like in the way that I had those 1999 catalogues but at the same time, I'd feel dirty riding a "Lance" bike. Just my thoughts!!

I appreciate your thoughts - my attitude towards Lance has melowed in the last few years - the acceptance that with a few notable examples they really were all doing it plus that I realised I was judging Armstrong on his behaviour off the bike more than on - the bike is pretty awesome though... Dan
