It’s interesting to see how region has an effect on style, most of the trends you talked about effect a niche group of individuals but appear to be mainstream bc of the media we all consume, however when I went to college at an HBCU (predominantly black university) most people didn’t know what sambas were and heavily complimented my shoes!
ah I love comments like this! makes me realise how big the world is and that not everyone is looking at the same pinterest boards and instagram accounts as me hahahaha , I hope you have a lovely dayxxxx
I really enjoy this video as instead of calling a piece of item ugly/tacky you explain why trends end up dying! We need more of this when talking about trends because it makes me sad constantly seeing people diss what other people enjoy!!
ah pls yessss thank you for understanding !! I think all of these trends are cute (and so does everyone else obv that's why they're trends hehehe) its literally just the fact that we name them that is what pinpoints them in time yk????? like mermaid core - 10 years ago mermaid core was just 'flowy dresses, pink, ruffles' but now we have named it something it becomes stuck in 2023 when the little mermaid film came out. I think everything in the mermaid trend is stUNniNg, and I just know people will continue to wear pieces they bought when this trend was at its peak, its just they will be worn with something else and they will call it something else so that it transcends time yk ??!! thank you for such an interesting comment heheehxxxx
with trends, i usually wait six months or so before purchasing them to see if i still like the item or style and that means i only end up buying things i really like
that’s really good advice but with fast fashion and trends moving quickly can you still even find these clothes in clothes stores or do u have to order offline
idk what to do bc i love love having bows in my hair, like it's been a timeless thing for me, but i'm scared people will think i'm like untrendy//dated if i wear them. sigh
I think such things can totally become part of your personal style if they are "out of trend" when they really resonate with you. Like we had people wear item XYZ after it was trendy and then it became associated with them personally rather than with the trend. Just do what you love and what feels right (ʘᴗʘ✿)
pls pls that means it has become part of your personal style!! personally I think its cooler to see someone wearing a piece that is out of season or an item that may be considered strange or unfashionable because it really shows the personality of the person wearing it, they are not just following what everyone else is doing they are wearing what they are wearing bc they love it !! I think you and your bows falls into that category, it's become a part of your personal style !!! pls pls continue to wear what YOU love, as soon as you start dressing for others you lose confidence in yourself and insecurity is an outfit we should never be made to feel we have to wearxxxxxxx
Styling > buying. It's been so great to see young people become aware of the true costs behind consumerism, and reaoize the anesthetic effect it has on one's own creativity. To stay conscious is to protect one's creativity and humanity ❤ LOVED the video. Wasn't aware of some of these, may actually take some inspiration as they're going out the door 😂
ah thank you for your message it means a lot :)) honestly, its a good idea to pick things up as they get left behind as you can get things cheaply and you won't look like everyone else !!xxxx
In my opinion, trends are there to explore different styles in your early years (until around mid-twenties), in order to find your personal style based on these experiences. I'd hate to follow trends my whole life and fall out of love with my clothes as quickly as the fast fashion trends want me to, or continue buying things I think are "cool" and then not wear them because I'm not comfortable in them. A timeless style for you is a style you feel YOU wearing.
you have no idea how much I resonate with this oh my, pls I think trends are so useful, I literally talked about it in my latest video. wish id seen this before bc your point about fashion trend cycles being so fast is so good and I never thought of that ! oh my thank you so much for your comment it really made me think xxxx
i love how so many of the recent trends are thing ive already loved since middle school/high school. like bows coming out of style??? ive been obsessed with bows since i was 7 and it’s continued on til now and will never stop😭 it’s like how you mentioned at the end of the video, some things are just personal for us and we’ll stick with even when it’s out of style. i think a trend for me that i started trying and will continue to love after it’s out of style are maxi skirt, especially the denim ones. i genuinely love them and i feel like they can upscale a basic outfit so easily
Yes yes yes you are so right !!! Trends are all over the place and sometimes it’s strange for me to hear something is trending that I’ve been wearing forever ! I think with bows, the people that only started wearing them this year bc they got cool will start to discard the trend, but I think for the people that have it as their personal style and have had for a long time will continue, and it’ll just make it cute again bc we won’t be sick of seeing it everywhere :)
Trendy 2023 things that I’ll wear for a long time (as someone who’s favourite styles are a mix of academic/vampiric and girly/coquette) Bowes + ribbons - as a certified girly girl, I have always loved putting bowes and ribbons on everything and always will Ballet-core - wrap skirts, satin, leotard-like tops, leg warmers, tights, etc never lose their appeal to me Fabric roses/flowers - I feel like they are the perfect embellishment to my girly outfits and the chokers suit my long neck so I’m keeping them Colourful/patterned tights - probably will continue as trendy next year. Again I think they elevate an outfit and if the pattern is unique it can add a fun spark to an outfit. I also wear a lot of shorter skirts so it’s good for that. Mary janes - I will love them forever. They’re both girly and wearable for everyday and go with everything. They add a hint of that academia vibe that I love. I personally think they’re timeless. Those massive red glass heart pendants - I don’t own the exact one but have similar jewellery and I kind of have no excuse just that I love them. I need that little bit of vampire, you know? Messenger bags - have been around for a bit and will stay a bit longer. Practical, cute, go with everything, can add lots of charms and things (another trend I’m keeping) I think in general obviously you’ll change over time, but try to go for things and styles that feel very natural on you. I also pick a lot of things I would have liked as a little girl because I feel like that holds sort of like my core essence.
this message is so lovely to read thank you so much for sharing ! all of your items seem to fit very well together, definitely a certified girly girl ahhahahaa . I hope you have a lovely week xxxxxx
I just wish people wear what they want I used to keep up with trends but I like wearing what I want because it makes me feel confident and it’s my own style
I love your glasses!! Also the way you articulate yourself with such an effortless sense of humour hahaha, it's really refreshing. :) About your point on trends getting boring, that's why I love D.I.Y, sewing & crafting your own style. I agree for sure on taking pieces from the trends you like and incorporating them with other trends as it adds in a bit of a surprise or "I never thought of pairing that together" element. I always throw in some kind of edgy/punky vibe to my outfits because I love the way it contrasts to my otherwise softer look. I am also a firm believer in practicality and comfort - I don't want to be adjusting my shirt or belt or whatever the whole entire day. As you said, just find things you really like whether or not it's part of a trend and continue to wear them because of that.
pls i WISH i was good at sewing !! I have so many things that I don't wear bc they aren't qquitteeeeee right but I know if I added a lil diy magic to them I could fix them ! so glad you think so similarly to me !!xxxxxx
I still remmember being bullied for wearing bows by the end of my braids 8 years ago, and now its trendy xD. Glad i never let anyone tell me what i should or shouldn't wear on my hair.
@@yeehawneehaw5215 i don't know the reason why you can't but, one day you will im sure ^^ and untill then if you want to still use bows you can add them to your clothes / bags/ shoes, it looks just as cute :)
Love love your content! It's funny hearing how quickly these things are becoming 'old', the first time they came around they were here for 3 times as long but then with no Internet we saw them 3 times less to get sick of them 😂 As long as these items don't get thrown out then it's OK and all good but it's imPOSSIBLE to be unique anymore at this rate of trend cycle! Maybe it's the end for trends........? What do you think? ❤
Ooooh interesting views !! Pls yes let it be the end of trends !! I mean I think they serve a purpose in that sometimes they might allow someone insecure to fit in (aka me in secondary school) but generally I think for the health of the planet, our wallets and our identity I think trends can piddle off !! (I literally said in my Pinterest video that no one is unique anymore !! So funny you mentioned it here too !!!!!!)
it was interesting to hear your take on sambas because I actually predicted that they would continue as a 2024 trend in my recent video haha but i see what you're saying about skinnier shoes
Honestly the samba rhetoric exhausts me hahahha i cba with it anymore, people who like them like them people who don’t don’t, i hate myself in this video talking about them bc like who cares if they’re ‘overdone’ wear whatever you want haha
yes !! you need to OWN them bc when the people who just wore them bc everyone else was wearing them stop doing so, you'll be out there cute n quirky showing us how its MEANT to be done ! :D
I just thought about starting wearing the bows/ribbons :D and now there is your video... maybe I will wear them anyways. But I enjoyed your video a lot ;)
ah please please do wear bows !!! I ac talk about this in my new video so it's funny you said !! please wear whatever you feel suits you most !xxxxxxx thank youso much for your kind words xxx
Love this video and ur channel very inspiring !!! Tbh in regards to trendy vs timeless, i love fashion and like to think I have a personal style however it can be really hard when buying something to know whether I really like it or I just like it at the moment because everything I see is through the lense of what is currently trending, cos like everyone else, I think what is currently trending is stylish….u know what I mean?!? Like I don’t just blindly follow trends but it’s hard to separate yourself and ur opinions bcos it’s hard not to be influenced by everything around u. To and extent everyone follows trends without realising/even if they think they don’t. Anyway soz I just love shitposting in comment sections keep up the great vids!!!!!! Xxxxx
Ah I absolutely agree w trends clouding your judgement on what you genuinely think is what you want to wear bc ofc things that are trendy are what’s going to make you fit in !! I think in that way trends can serve a purpose, if you’re an insecure teenager following a trend is nicer than being bullied (first hand experience - kids r mean) I like to think I have a personal style (💅💅💁♀️) but I know that I do find a lot of inspiration from other sources, like I can just think from my brain what I want to bid for on eBay ygm hehheheh xxxxxx
heyy love :D I just got you recommended on my screen and i absolutely adore you and your style and voice and view on topics that i like too and ahhh :))) I guarantee you that im going to be a regular visitor :)
One thing i lovz to do when shopping based on trends is to wait that the trend in question die off and if i still love it then I’m buying it for sure ! Exemple when the 2020 alt style was very much trending on tiktok, i’m very happy that i was too young to purchase anything because there’s a lot of elements i wouldn’t know how to style today (like demonias or some types of corset) whilz they’re a lot of others thing i absolutely would continue to wear today (likz these bunny hats that everyone hate now 🫠)
luv💗💗💗 who tf cares?! i love mermaid core and bows are just chefs kiss 😍! who cares if one girl on the internet thinks it might die out, it doesnt meen its not cute! Clothes from ages ago that died out came back now and everyone loved them! Just do you girly 😉
pls pls wear design make whatEVER you want !!! just because it was a trend that came around this year doesn't mean it isn't absolutely beautiful !! I think bows are super cute and mermaid dresses are stunning, they always have been, we've seen them on runways for tens of years and just because now they are associated with a trend (for example ruffles and chiffon dresses are associated with 2023 little mermaid core) doesn't mean that they cannot exist outside the trend and are not wonderful in their own right!! like I said in the video, if it is something you really like you'll find a way to wear it that reflects your personal style and it won't just be a trend for you
exactly !! Gisele bundchen walked for Donna Karen Spring 2000 in the most stunning dress that today we might call mermaid-esque, but back 23 years ago it was simply a stunning dress in its own right ! I think all trends transcend time, its just they get called different things hahaha xxxx
Gosh this shows how out of touch i am, im 32 and not on social media (ig twitter or tiktok) so i had no idea these were even trends (and what in the world are sambas? Lol). Then again im no sneakerhead, and never was fashionably trendy in school either, so id probably still be ignorant if I had a greater online presence. I'm trying to find ways to liven up my capsule wardrobe because I realized basics are great but ALL I have are basics and then it's like...wait🤨...am I basic🫣? I needed to grow up so in my 20's I started over and focused on materials over labels. But playing it too safe is boring so I've ordered an emerald coat for the winter and will continue to freshen things up a bit! Btw which fashion show is shown in the right side photo at 3:28? It's so ethereal 🥹.
oooooh an emerald coat sound AMAZING !!! im the same as you I think, I have mostly basics in my wardrobe and then a couple of different pieces that reflect my style that I pair WITH the basics, if I just wore basics id feel like my style had no personality and if I ONLY wore statement/token pieces then it would be too much to look at and Id feel silly !! love this comment so much thank you for your words!!xxxxxx
I loved this video!! super interesting to see your opinions, and I totally agree! I didn´t even know what sambas were lol but I definitely adore the mermaid core look (probably not on me tho) and I also really wanted to get the white skirt look haha either way, I wish people dressed like this or any other style if they wanted to and not just because it´s trendy (it is true, at least in my case, that some trends made me discover things I´d like to wear but I obviously don´t like the temporary aspect of them. I guess everything on earth has its lifetime so yeah, I got philosophical there haha) anyway, I think this is the first video of yours that I have watched and I wanted to say that you´re absolutely lovely!! not only are you pretty but also how you speak and communicate your ideas is super clear!! hope to see more of you on my home page
ah pls you are such a sweetheart thank you so so much for your message. we really think alike judging by your words :D I completely agree with everything you said, particularly that trends help me to discover things I like wearing ! pls pls keep coming and I hope to see you again very soon xxxx
@@ashleighcallaghan you´re so sweet, thank you for replying! Yes I definitely think we may share more that these specific opinions, maybe we´ll chat on another video´s comment section :) see you soon
I don't know if you gonna see this because the video is already 2 months "old" but as a ballet dancer myself I absolutely adore the ballet core aestetic. I try to dress like this to class but in classic (russian) ballet this style is kinda inappropriate for that .
ah im so glad you enjoyed it !! after all the love on my second one I was thinking of getting rid of this one and starting it again bc im not happy w the quality , so you might have just saved its life hahah xxxx
I think In reality people try things and keep things in their style that are comfortable to them and practical to their life. As much as people do buy into trends bc of social media… I think just because it’s accessible to people doesn’t make it overdone. After all sneakers are just sneakers. I often chose a shoe that balances out my small feet/ curvy body.
if it is your personal style it is timeless for you! for example, I wear the original long Ugg boots allllll the time despite them being outdated or 'unfashionable' and micro, Tasman and platform uggs being the trend. however I consider them timeless for me personally as they are a part of my style identity! there are generic items like a little black dress, or a white t shirt that never go out of fashion for anyone, but I also think there are timeless pieces that are different for us all individually. :D I hope that helps!! pls wear whatever you feel most comfortable in !!xxxxxx
Just found your channel and loved this video! Going to check out more from you! 😊 Quick note though: "fortuitous" = by chance, lucky, fortunate -- I think what you meant to say was "frivolous" = not having any real purpose or value, not serious or useful. Hope this helps! P.S. I loooove bows and have worn them since way before they were trendy so I think I'm probably going to just keep on with them, lol! At the end of the day I am definitely of the mindset that we can all be inspired by fun, new fashion trends, but we all should wear whatever we want and what makes us happy! That's really what makes fashion fun -- expressing yourself and being creative! And I think trends can become timeless when they are done well and become part of someone's personal style and "signature look", you know what I mean? Does that make any sense? Anyways, off to watch more of your videos! 💕
ah thank you so much for your comment !! pls pls you are welcome any time!! I absolutely agree with you that there are items we can wear that are a part of our personal style that will never get old regardless of what trend cycle they are in. for you it is bows (you must be super cute) for me one of them is big round glasses, ive had massive glasses since before jimmy fairly made them cool and everyone wore skinny rectangle glasses when I was starting high school but they are coming back around, but im sure with Bella Hadid coming and wearing the skinny frames again ill be sure to be uncool again v soon hahahah (ps, just bc I love picking out grammar mistakes too, I said gratuitous - without good reason, but I edit my videos so badly I can't remember if I edited off the first bit of that word hahaha) xxxxx
Oh thank you so much! You are so sweet!!! And I'm sorry about my error -- it was probably just me -- I must have misheard you (the words sound similar). Hugs to you and keep wearing your big round glasses as long as you enjoy them -- they are fun & cute and we should all always wear whatever makes us most happy and most comfortable!@@ashleighcallaghan
I feel so freakin old watching this video, bc I feel all the things going out of style now have also been fading out of style when I was in my late teens circa 2007 😅
Are “sambas” thin-soled sneakers? Or like sneakers with regular soles, just not those thick to super thick to super super thick soled shoes that have been popular for so many years now?
honestly youre right, a lot of Adidas shoes look exactly the same ! samba, spezial, gazelle, Hamburg - so so similar !! they obv found something that works and ran with it ahahaha
Yall I need help, where can I find that purple dress she shows in the video at 3:41? Its a beautiful dress and would love to check out more info on it.
yes I absolutely agree with you ! but I just think particularly the rose chokers and the bows on EVERYTHING is a very characteristically 2023 trend. Ofc florals and ribbons are timeless, its just the way we have chosen to portray them in this current moment in time (I think but ofc who cares hehehe) is reaching the end of its popularity xxxxxx thank you for the interesting comment! It made me think :D
